Rare Video Of Controversial Bigfoot Researcher On David Letterman Show

From the youtube channel The Sasquatch Archive via Todd Prescott:
Erik Beckjord on Letterman (08-19-1986)

For those who don't know, Jon-Erik Beckjord was a polarizing figure in sasquatch research. He has a Wikipedia entry, for those interested. Suffice it to say, he created a lot of controversy over the years.

Some of those interested in the sasquatch phenomenon have been trying to locate the Beckjord segment when he was on the Late Night With David Letterman show. Well . . . I finally found it . . . finally. Even Beckjord himself couldn't recall when he was on the show - or even which Letterman show incarnation he was on. Mystery solved now.

John Green had the complete audio from the segment recorded to cassette—likely given to him by Beckjord. The two men were actually good friends beginning in the mid-1970s through to Beckjord’s passing in 2008. Even though Green didn’t agree with Beckjord’s views about sasquatch, he nonetheless respected his opinions. But Green didn’t have the video; he only had the audio. I managed to successfully find the video segment after years of searching.

Because the last few seconds of the video segment are cut, I’ve spliced in the missing audio as best as I could.

I hope you enjoy this previously thought lost treasure. Whether one agrees with Beckjord or not, it’s an interesting clip, and as per usual with anything Letterman does, quite comical.

    1. Smithsonian archaeologist Damian Waters and his team have uncovered three elongated skulls in the region of La Paille, Antarctica. The discovery came as a total surprise to the world of archaeology as they are the first human remains uncovered from Antarctica, thought never to have been visited by humans until the modern age.

    2. I used to go to school with a kid who had an elongated skull. We called him watermelon head. True story.

    3. I wonder why it is so surprising really? As the Antarctic was lush and tropical at one time. It makes perfect sense to find some type of habitation there.

    5. Yes it would be amazing . . . except it's not true. There were no skulls discovered in Antarctica however elongated skulls have been found in Peru and are housed in museums there.

    6. Already know about Peruvian skulls. What is this then? Fake?

    7. The images they use of the skulls in the story are real however the background story of them being found in Antarctica is not.

  3. It's a few weeks shy of 30 years since this Letterman appearance and there is still no proof.

Has anyone out there visited the museum in Malibu? Is it still there?

  4. Eric Beckjord was also the anonymous person who showed up at the ranch in Hunt for the Skinwalker, and did some meditation in the field prior to a partially cloaked Bigfoot walking up to him that screamed in his ear. And then he went insane.

He also showed up at the childhood home of Autumn Williams in Washington, and made a nuisance out of himself. Eric was known for making middle of the night calls to researchers, in order to preach about the paranormal existence of the Bigfoot.
Eric also impersonated a person that was associated with Roger Patterson, when he showed up at Stanford to claim a 2nd generation copy of the Patterson-Gimlin film. And they gave it to him.

    1. Besides making appearances on the Merv Griffin Show and Joey Bishop's program, Roger Patterson also appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. I wasn't aware of that.

This has to be out there, somewhere amongst the archives.

    2. I have been looking here and there for years trying to find out if copies of Patterson's Joey Bishop Show and Merv Griffin appearances are available somewhere for viewing.

Someone has to find these (if they still exist). Who knows? A body language expert may be able to discern if Patterson was lying or telling the truth about his now famous footage when he appeared on these television shows.

    3. Patterson was NOT on the Carson show! That's a rumor that just won't go away. All the Carson guests are listed and Patterson is not on that list. People mixed up the Carson show with the Griffin and/or Bishop show (both of which were quite popular then too). The Merv Griffin show appearance seems to be lost forever. TV shows back then didn't always save copies. The Joey Bishop archive was bought recently but the purchaser won't allow public use of episodes and wants a ridiculous amount of money for the Patterson episode.

    5. You're correct, 9:42. I've just spent 20 minutes going through that looong list on imdb, but to no avail. A waste of time for me, but thank you for that info.

    7. Erik looks so young here. His philosophy was any attention even bad attention is still attention to the bigfoot field. He had several films and photos that he considered too important to just leave to chance. He was a dear friend and mentor.you either hated him or you loved him. I loved his big blustery brilliant self. He definitely left a legacy that will be given to the world when the time is right. Thanks for posting this video.

Wow, you ain't kidding. You got a clown named Kitakaze who pretended to find the P/G suit, pretended to be stalked and pretended to be an international diplomat. Another footer named Alaskabushpilot who pretended to be a college professor, professional fighter who fought in a weight class two weights above his own, among a number of other ridiculously obvious lies. Another footer named Drewbot who just got caught lying about pretending he thought Bigfoot was nonsense since he was a child. You're right this topic attracts all kinds of nuts.

    9. I think Alaskabushpilot's most entertaining story was when he claimed he was in another country fighting off insurgents while he was posting about Bigfoot...lol

  5. I seem to remember Beckjord posting on a now-defunct site called Cryptozoology.com. I did not have a high opinion of him then and still don't. I remember he didn't win over many friends there. His views were . . . extremely odd to say the least.

    1. You are one sick fvck, Haints. I can only imagine what a miserable person you are in real life. It is all you portray here.

Khat - Haints can't stand himself, thus his hatred of others. We've always hoped for civility from him, but alas, he is not capable. His jealousy runs too deep.

Try not to let Haints bring you down, Khat. You have many friends here.
