io9 Asked Finding Bigfoot "What's Taking So Long?"

Popular culture website io9 sat down with the crew of Finding Bigfoot to ask them a very important question; What's the hold up?

Finding Bigfoot is one of Animal Planet’s most popular shows. It’s been on the air for five years and has clocked nearly 100 episodes, none of which—despite the sheer amount of cameras involved—feature any footage of the elusive giant ape. So when we talked to the show’s hosts, we had to ask them what’s the hold-up.

The tantalizing possibility that this week, Bigfoot might actually show up, is essential to the show’s enduring appeal. Each episode follows a predictable formula, but the scenery is always killer (if Bigfoots do exist, they definitely hang out in some of the most gorgeous and untouched places), and the tone is charmingly earnest. That last factor is due to the personalities involved. Along with biologist Ranae Holland, the group’s resident skeptic, and field “caller” James “Bobo” Fay, who provides the show’s comic relief, Finding Bigfoot’s core cast consists of researcher Cliff Barackman and Matt Moneymaker, founder of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization.

Barackman and Moneymaker are true believers. Barackman told io9 that he estimates there are “maybe 10,000 individuals, give or take a few thousand” living in small family groups across North America. Individual Bigfoots, that is.

“That number sounds like a lot,” he admitted. “But when you consider how much land they have to inhabit, that makes them probably one of the more rare species of large animals in North America.”

The obvious next question, of course: If there are 10,000 of these creatures roaming around out there, why have they been so elusive for so long?

Naturally, the thermal revealed nothing and he exclaimed "They are like ghosts.." Swoosh, the camera pans to him and holds him in frame for a few seconds. It was like the cameraman said "Gothca!"..Bobo looked like a guy caught playing with himself...Funny. Remember when Matt told his story about his "encounter" with a bigfoot? The whole time the camera was on Bobo and Cliff..The viewer can see they did not believe him..Thats what people like: watching them lie to each other and to the audience and

    7. Yes, there is evidence. There is tons of evidence. However, 100,000 pieces of questionable evidence does not constitute proof, except in the mind of a bigfoot zealot. For those people, as with religious cult members, blind faith trumps all.

Sorry Haints, it's nice to see you picking up on other people's vocabulary (learning), and even nicer to see you dropping yourself in it as to who's one of the anon psychos around here, but I've yet to see you come up with one reason why the evidence is "questionable", and nobody claims to have proof... Only the proof that an as of yet unclassified bipedal primate is leaving it's sign on the environment. Don't like it? Prove the evidence isn't there... Because 100,000 comments to the contrary doesn't constitute reality.

To counter science with mere FAITH that there is no evidence... Is as religious-like as your little brain can handle.

He planned a one-year expedition with tracking dogs, cages, a large crew, and the entire project filmed. This would have been a huge financial project. So they immediately went to Hollywood for funding, but they turned him down.

Roger then went on his film tour- he made lots of money, started his own organization, and started investigating capture claims to bag one that way (and was duped in the process). He partnered with Ron Olson to fund the 'capture expedition' that he originally planned. They were going to fund the expedition themselves by making a movie, but that never panned out and the expedition never happened.

Roger kept investigating claims. He eventually had Ron do investigations for him because by that time he was getting too sick. Roger died and Ron basically continued where they left off doing research, and ended up making a docudrama movie based on Roger's ideas (Sasquatch: Legend of Bigfoot).

For one, a lot more people were in and out of that area immediately following the film. So the odds of seeing another in the general area were much more slim.

He also had no means to capture a Bigfoot which would be the next logical step.

We could speculate all day long and go over 'would haves' and 'could haves', but reality is never that black and white. The facts show that Patterson did make immediate plans for a return to California and a capture- it just didn't pan out financially."

    1. "So they immediately went to Hollywood for funding" - the explanation for this, you pasted yourself down below.

"Roger then went on his film tour- he made lots of money" - he had one of the greatest pieces of footage ever recorded, I would too.

"They were going to fund the expedition themselves by making a movie, but that never panned out and the expedition never happened." - unfortunate

"So the odds of seeing another in the general area were much more slim." - logical, why would the most elusive creature on the planet stick around when more people are about?

"Patterson did make immediate plans for a return to California and a capture- it just didn't pan out financially." - you need money to conduct research and it would take a lot of money to attain better evidence than what he'd already had.

People actually believe that a broke cowboy can trump 47 years of SFX? Now that's incredible...

No monkey suit = no hoax = no self esteem

      : (

      Delete
    5. Yes Joe, i do. That magical suit is known as the Blevins suit. And lets not forget that Bob H passed his polygraph that he wore the suit. You trying to discredit the polygraph examiners, or this that and the other, will not change anything. If the test was given by the best polygraph examiner in the world, you still would make an excuse as to why he passed, and still claim it wasn't him wearing the suit. I think you and me both know that. The examiner, nor test would change your mind.

Think of it this way, lets say Bob H decided that he was going to put this whole thing to bed, and he agreed to the most modern methods of lie detecting. He set with the best of the best and using modern equipment, passed the test, that he wore the suit in that film.

It would not matter to you, now would it? You would say that polygraphs arent 100 percent. In fact, you have said this before. So, with that mindset, then nothing could ever dissprove bigfoot. Yet if some cop got on a polygraph and said that they saw bigfoot and passed, you would tout that as amazing evidence. You know what i am saying is correct, and so does everyone else. Bob H passed his polygraph, like it or not. He had nothing to gain from a conspiracy with a polygraph examiner to say that he wore it. Nothing at all, except a laugh at footers. Its not worth his trouble.

Then add in the many many, many things that don't add up at all in the story. From the film development, to the people involved, and the order of events on that day, etc. Its a hoax Joe. You are either trolling, or you are so far gone that nothing will ever convince you of it. You do have psychologicla problems my friend. See a psychiatrist, and they will agree.

      ... Yep! That's Blevins alright!

Jim McCormick who did Bob H's first polygraph died in 2009 and Heironimus’ attorney, Barry Woodard, refused to reposnd to requests from another local polygraph expert for a peer review of those test results. The ‘Lie Detector’ show’s credibility also took a hit concerning his second polygraph, when host Ed Gelb was accused of exaggerating his own academic credentials and the show was victimized by a guest who made up a story, aced Gelb’s polygraph and then bragged about it in a magazine.

      Delete
    7. That is neither here nor there. He passed the test Joe. And you dodged the question. Someone could come forward today and pass a polygraph given from the bets of the best that they wore the suit. You would still deny it and move on and make up some excuse for them passing. Yet if a firefighter or a cop passes one saying that they saw bigfoot, you would tout it as great evidence. You can't have it both ways. In your mind, everything is bigfoot and everything proves it. Yet in reality, there is zero proof. Just hoaxed blurry film and photos, prints with pathetic dermals, and hair that always comes back human. lol, i wonder why

I frankly don't know. As to the P-G film, the opinion as to it authenticity has always been split between a genuine film and a hoax. 1. It was played out a decade after the pgf and zero bigfoots turned up despite a widespread search. Still believing these days requires a subnormal intellect.

    2. True. Saying you believe in bigfoot is announcing to the world that you are either a con artist or you have the mind of a child.

    3. Look at this reply by Joe dmaker. Its so obsurd, its pathetic. Look how he twists things to suit his agenda.

"Now Professor Bryan Sykes at the University of Oxford says he believes Zana had a strain of West African DNA that belonged to a subspecies of modern humans."

"Bigfoot", Yeti, Yeren... Are an ancient subspecies of humans.

    6. 8:01... For this to be labelled a hoax brings a very, very big burden of explaining things away.

8:17... Since the PGF footage was filmed, amateur researchers have collected every source of evidence required for further exploration of the creature commonly known as "Bigfoot"... Magic monkey suits haven't materialised as well.

Don... Being a career denialist, worried about what other people think and getting no closer to proving what is allegedly so obvious... Child minded. And it is very, very easy to distinguish in DNA whether a human is modern, or ancient modern human (that shouldn't be there). It doesn't lie... Just ask Sykes.

    7. Who gives a rats as s about the PGF? Prove bigfoot exists.

Your sources of evidence, moron, have multiple potential origins other than bigfoot. This makes them ambiguous. But please continue to pretend that they are important.

    8. You idiot.....he is talking about DNA from a very isolated tribe of HUMANS in West Africa.

Probably a tribe that died out long ago and is unknown to anyone. That has happened many, many times in real history.

So no it's not an ape-women.

    9. Donald... Who cares about the PGF? Why you did until your suit excuses got rammed back down your throat on the BFF.

Sorry... But using ambiguous claims to support the idea that everyone else uses ambiguous claims, isn't very scienific, isn't very good logic... And we've shown time and time again that for all your crying, there is nothing ambiguous about repeatable scientific evidence. There is nothing more important by the basic requirements of science.

9:46... Read it and weep up top.

    10. >>Donald... Who cares about the PGF?

Come on that is your Holy Grail. Don't even try to pretend.

And we've shown time and time again that for all your crying, there is nothing ambiguous about repeatable scientific evidence. There is nothing more important by the basic requirements of science.

This is just nonsense. You used many words yet did not state one coherent idea.

      >>9:46... Read it and weep up top.

      I did and laughed.

    13. Oh dear... It appears you've only gone and embarrassed yourself again...

About care when it comes to the PGF, I was merely drawing a upon Donald's sentiment in the previous comment, you obviously didn't read it. Please learn to read. Also... When you're trying to expose alleged shortfalls in the comments of others, it is probably beneficial after you quote someone that you bring at least one example of where this has actually occurred. Just trying to help.

      (Cringe)
