This Bigfoot Photograph Is Worth $100,000

During an expedition in the Sierras in 2013, Bigfoot benefactor Wally Hersom offered us $100,000 to prove to him a Bigfoot photograph was not real. Hersom believes the game camera photograph to be a real image of a Bigfoot. The photograph was taken on D.B. Young's property and is commonly known in the community as "Big Phil". Since any evidence we present to Wally would probably be subjective, we decided to pass up the offer. If you're not familiar with the story of Big Phil, here's a summary:

The camera system used: Stealth Cam model STC-AD3X.

B.F.R.O. Group members are divided about the provenance of this image.

At first glance many believe it is fake. However, the people who are familiar with the location, and know D.B. Young's character believe it is not fake.
Some in the group may charge it is a statue. But a statue can not walk.

Some may say it was a large person who came into Mr. Young's back yard that winter night to stage a prank. But who could walk more than a mile in below zero temperatures of snow frozen swamps barefooted?

Yes, Barefooted. The foot prints on Mt. Pelee road had signs of ice melt, indicating bare foot pad warmth, not a cold shoe soul.

People who have attended expeditions in Mr. Young's area have themselves witnessed strange events, such as large figures, unknown sounds, or have been tormented at night.

The photo called, ''Big Phil'' was obtained with a motion-detection-triggered "trail-cam", at a property owned by Mr. Young near the South Fork of the Flambeau River in north central Wisconsin.

D.B. Young, the man who set up the trail-cam, is a professional hunting/fishing guide, and wildlife specialist.

He spends most of his time afield stalking deer herds, studying bear, wolves, coyote and other animals in the deep forests, to make sure he knows where to bring his customers during the fall hunting season, or for animal watching events.

His intention for the camera set, was to catch an animal that was killing pet cats during past weeks.

D.B. Young described a handful of BF-related incidents over the past years to B.F.R.O. Researchers or expedition attendees, including one within a few hundred yards of the property where the photo was obtained.

Several people from the BFRO met D.B. Young during the BFRO's 2006 Wisconsin expedition. His observations led the group to a swampy tributary of the South Fork of the Flambeau.

Over the course of two weeks in June, at least 40 of the 65 participants heard the distinct sounds of sasquatches around the perimeter and within the deep forest swamp.

At least 10 of the participants reported stalking and brief rock throwing encounters around this tributary.

During later expeditions, attendees and researchers had close contacts and various encounters with tall bipedal forest dwelling creatures.

In the months following the expedition Don was visited by a few people who heard about the activity in the area, including documentary producer Doug Hajicek and animal phermone expert Dr. Greg Bambenek.

Hajicek and Bambenek were impressed enough with Don to provide him with a digital trail-cam. Don set up this camera after it was noticed that four of the seven cats (domestic cats) on the property were missing. It was assumed that a predator was to blame. Don wanted to get a photo of whatever predator might be involved.

The trail-cam was triggered a few times during the night. It snapped a few photos, but all those images were very dark. The camera has a visible white internal flash system, but the flash had been inadvertently disabled by low battery life.

Even with the flash disabled though, the unit still snapped photos when triggered by motion.

D.B. Young checked the camera and found 12 dark images. He erased all of the dark images except the last one which showed a curious shard of back-lit illumination. When the brightness and gamma was adjusted on the image, the silhouette of a large upright figure was visible.

Shortly after seeing the enhanced image, D.B.Young returned to where the camera had been aimed to look for tracks in the snow. There were many.

These tracks measured 15 ½ to 16 inches in length with visible human like toes and heal patterns.

The toes in these tracks dug in, curling downward in some of the prints, indicating actual toe mobility not solid as shoe or form.

The branch of a tree just at the photographed creatures head was measured at 8 and a half feet, making Big Phil a frightening 8 feet tall, with a shoulder width of 3 feet.

Although during the first couple weeks after the photo, D.B.Young was not able to locate a forest path beyond Mt. Pelee road.

That Spring, the tracks had been located, and lead Mr. Young and another researcher about 1 mile into the deep swamp of Mt. Pelee springs. This was in the opposite direction that Big Phil was first suspected of going. Then Big Phil's trail was lost due in part to spring time snow melt and swamp flooding by the beaver ponds. This investigation is ongoing.

    6. AnonymousFriday, February 17, 2012 at 5:56:00 AM PST

Since December various BFRO members wondered who was feeding the lies about MM to Lindsay and Smeja.

The person behind the campaign is none other former New Jersey bureaucrat Mike "Squeaky" Greene. Greene has been anonymously repeating those lies in the comments of this blog as well.

Mike Greene had a beef with MM some time ago when MM refused to let Greene use the BFRO site to swindle people into paying $2 for a single viewing of his "Squeaky" thermal clip. Greene was banking on a windfall from people repeatedly paying $2 to watch his unfocused thermal footage over and over. MM wouldn't allow it, because it was a ripoff scheme, pure and simple, even if the footage was legit.

A year later Greene wanted to be part of the Finding Bigfoot series. He was interviewed by a talent scout for Animal Planet but he was not chosen as one of the four leads. It was a huge disappointment for Greene, because he spent a lot of money for a facelift surgery in Costa Rica, in preparation for being in the TV series.

Greene's latest hopeful scheme involved his plan to write a book about the "Sierra Kills" story. Without even knowing Greene's involvement with Smeja and the Sierra Kills story, MM discredited the story, and thereby sunk another one of Greene's fantasies. That set Greene on the war path and ramped up his smear campaign against MM.

A few weeks ago Mike Greene was ejected from the BFRO for trashing another BFRO member -- a bigfoot researcher in Wisconsin who is supported by Wally Hersom. Wally has been supporting that Wisconsin BFRO member and his wife for years now. Mike Greene wanted Wally's backing for himself, but he had already alienated himself from Wally because of his vicious (envy-driven) hatred for the Wisconsin researcher.

Wally chose to support and defend the Wisconsin researcher when the guy had legal problems. That drove Greene batty, and set him on a mission to turn everyone against the Wisconsin researcher ... as if that would influence Wally's decision to support him.

Greene's latest devious campaign is to turn people against MM. Greene is doing that by propagating false rumors about him, though Greene has been cultivating those rumors for a while now, according to many BFRO people. That's why they are so certain he is the one feeding info to Robert Lindsay.

There's a multi-fold purpose for what Greene is trying to do. He hopes the rumors will cause MM problems with Animal Planet, and cause problems with members of the BFRO, and especially with any other prospective financial backers of the BFRO. Greene wants everyone to hear the false rumors he spreads, and to be scared off by them. If he can undermine support for the MM and the BFRO ... then some support might come his way. That's the hope anyway ...

As for the Wisconsin BFRO researcher supported by Wally ... a few years ago the guy's step-daughter made allegations against him regarding sexual abuse. The court would not appoint a public defender for the guy so he got convicted. Wally and MM believed the guy, and his wife, and their side of the story. Wally paid for the guy's legal defense after that, and it has not been cheap.

As Wally spent even more money in the direction of the Wisconsin researcher, Greene went almost insane with jealousy and hatred. To say he was "green with envy" would be a huge understatement. Greene is obsessively fixated on that Wisconsin researcher, trying to destroy him any way possible.

Recently Greene began telling people, among other things, that MM is "protecting a child molester" ... because MM (and Wally) still believed the guy is innocent and was railroad by a state court. It was yet another futile attempt to prevent money from being spent in the direction of the Wisconsin researcher ... money which might go toward Greene, or so Greene hopes.

    7. Here is a little tidbit about Mike Greene.
1 year before his ''Squeaky'' video, my sister and I met him for drinks at a Salisbury pub down Church street.
At first we just drank a couple beers, then graduated into mix drinks.
Mike was infatuated with my sister, and filled her ear with bragging of his past military life and fraud investigation with the government.
After a couple hours, he began to feel the effects of the potent mix drinks, as did we all.
Our conversations changed then to Sasquatch, and Mike with an arm around my sisters shoulder said to us both, '' I should show you fine people and the world how easy it is to fool the public.''
When I asked how? He answered with a grin, '' Sasquatch of course''.

    10. It is true that my husband was sent to prison for a terrible type crime.
But as we have found out, it is much harder to prove innocence without evidence to a court than the State to assume guilt, even without physical proof.
My husband had no evidence to prove his innocence, so he took a no contest plea for the charge of child enticement, instead of dragging us through a dreadful trial.
It is easy for people to judge a person as guilty before innocent without knowing the whole story.
My daughter was spoiled by us both, and when refused, became hateful.
She made false accusations, and the judicial system took them serious enough to over ride any defense my husband or I provided.
Do you really believe I would stay with a man who would do this type of crime to my own daughter?
      Of course not!
My husband never did what he was accused of or charged with.
I was there during the time in question, but a wife's testimony in a Wisconsin court is not credible they stated.
So he suffered prison, and we suffer the unwarranted shame together for her fraudulent accusations.

  15. No family jewels hanging between the legs because he is wearing a suit. An obvious neck, short arms and short hair, just about make it impossible for this to be a Bigfoot. The location of where is was standing, cannot be proven. Therefore the height also cannot be proven.

I take some issues with the arm length and the lack of details provided by the game camera pic; I would also inquire about any other activity in the surrounding areas, nearby water and food sources. It is an interesting story that if to be taken true would warrant a further long term investigation.

If it is to see if a bf is coming to the home to take cats, then why not put the camera on one of the trees in front of where the camera sat, so that you would get a clearer picture with no big trees obstructing your view!!!!!! When I saw the lighter version of the picture, it looked to me as if someone had taken a photo of a painting....
