Exclusive! Man Accused In Lettuce Lake Bigfoot Scandal Denies Allegations, Claims Video is Real!

Justin Arnold, one of the individuals accused of hoaxing the Lettuce Lake Skunk Ape video, has reached out to us with his side of the story. He's not only denying the accusations made against him, (which can be seen here) but is also claiming the video is real. He has given us permission to post the following:

"I wanted to comment on the false allegations published about me by the BFRO. The lettuce lake skunk ape video is real and BFRO's debunking is irresponsible, unfounded and misleading. Those accusing me of being part of an elaborate hoax never contacted me or got statements from any of the people slandered in the "report." That alone should cause you to question the entire approach. All they had to do was ask and I would have answered. They didn't even try. To the readers of this, now like a credible report, you'll hear both sides.

To address their accusations, first of all, yes, I have done faux taxidermy. If that's enough for you to put me in a gorilla suit, read no further. In your mind my guilt has already been decided. Secondly, yes, I have painted many pictures depicting the skunk ape. When I was a child I was hiking with my grandfather in Green Swamp I saw a skunk ape. The experience was incredible and it always stuck with me. Like most artists, I use my personal experiences in my work. Does my depiction resemble the photo taken by John Rodriguez last month? Yes. If it's a hoax did the perpetrator take influence from my art? It would appear so. Did he photograph the same or similar skunk ape that I saw as a child? Equally possible.

Arnold's artwork left, Rodriguez skunk ape photo right.
Do I know a Matt, the one who filmed the skunk ape in Lettuce Lake? Yes. He has heard my skunk ape story and seen my artwork. Do I believe he legitimately filmed this? Yes. Does this video depict a skunk ape? I am undecided. Matt actually showed me his video disbelieving it himself. I encouraged him to send it out for evaluation and he reluctantly did so. I don't think there's anything wrong with healthy skepticism. I regret what has since happened to him since. A reckless, grossly negligent report that has even incited multiple death threats against him.

I'll also remind you, most skunk ape and bigfoot videos, photographs and sightings never see the light of day. Probably because they see situations like this. I was glad that I was close enough to the situation to influence his decision to come forward. I regret that his initial fears came true.

So, I say shame on those that choose that route and suggest that they hold themselves to a higher standard in the future. I believe many members of the aforementioned organization do their research responsibly and in good faith. The actions of a few does not give me disdain for all.

So, based on all the information, make your own determinations. For many, their minds are made up. That's fine. I'm not someone deeply immersed in the bigfoot culture and looking for publicity. I would have been quite happy just painting skunk apes in my room.
Well, Happy hunting, Justin"

Justin also included a new painting he has done, titled "Titans of the Swamp"

    6. Justin, I remember reading how Matt wasn't returning any correspondences, but here you say all they had to do was contact us.

Justin, how about the two headed alligator you faked and notified all the media outlets about? You were too dumb to dig the bank out some under the body so that the legs would rest on the ground. All four legs hover just above the ground.

Justin, speaking of the skunk ape John Rodriguez photographed you wrote. "Did he photograph the same or similar skunk ape that I saw as a child? Equally possible."

So, you saw a skunk ape as a child that had a white skunk stripe that no bigfoot has, and a turned up gorilla nose unlike any known bigfoot, and you say he could have photographed the same one you depicted in your art. Since your art came first it's more likely a prop copied after that, and I wonder if you know John Rodriguez, or if that is an alias.

You just happen to be close friends with Matt who got some great footage. And that footage from Lettuce Lake was media blitzed, sent out to multiple outlets just like you did with your fake two headed alligator, and was done with the fake skunk ape.

You might say that's just a coincidence. As reported by the Florida BFRO, a third friend of you and Matt, all in the same band together, pretended to see the two headed alligator while out walking his dog, showing a multiple person conspiracy to defraud the public. And you want me to believe that this other friend of yours has been wrongfully maligned.

The Lettuce Lake video looks good, but Matt claims it swims off underwater and never sees it again. That's not on the video. How did he manage to paddle in there and see that, but not video tape anything else?

The thing of poor Matt being wrongfully maligned sounds like two headed crocodile tears.

When I watched ThinkerThunker's Buffalo V Bigfoot I thought no, it's not. Same with Turkey Hunter. And I like ThinkerThunker. Here I didn't get the automatic red flags. Perhaps the BFRO person involved set out with a preconceived agenda to "unveil a hoax" without actually looking at both sides of this tale. And kudos to Tim F for calling a person to task for it.

    5. Can you say you don't know what's in a video without calling it a hoax. I hope so. Most people will tell you that's all I do. Have a great day.

    6. Mike, the video itself looks good. The issue is two of his close friends, all of them in the same band, were previously guilty of blitzing the media with a hoaxed two headed alligator.

Prior to the skunk ape with the white skunk ape and turned up nose, Justin, an admitted faux taxidermist, produced art that was a spitting image of that fake prop, making me think John Rodriguez is another associate of their's, or an alias.

Another friend of Justin's, in the same band with Justin and Matt, helped Justin fake the two headed alligator hoax, claiming he witnessed it while walking his dog. So, on the heels of all that Matt, a third band member, just happed to get some bigfoot footage in Lettuce Lake.

It is just too coincidental. These guys seem to be a group of serial hoaxers.

      Delete
    7. Yes but are they still in a musical group? If so, where can I get the album. Is Mark Ronson taking credit for it too? Hmmm. It's difficult. Just because I can't see whether by viewing the film it's a hoax or not doesn't mean I believe these cats. Truly I have no idea. Look. When I saw the Utah clip, was that Beard card, people went after them. But then, further vetting leads to a general consensus it had possibilities. Same for Idaho subject. I guess I just want a bit more of a "smoking gun" After all, it ain't called Lettuce Lake for nothing.

    8. When I first saw the Lettuce Lake video I thought it looked good. The same can be said for the snow walker video that fooled a lot of people, even Dr. Meldrum, but a TV film crew later admitted to creating it.

There is just too much association with possible serial hoaxers for me. I think there is a smoking gun in the form of strong circumstantial evidence. The Florida BFRO was able to make the connection by trying to research this guy and discovered he was close friends with these other hoaxers. The art by Justin that is a spitting image of the skunk ape prop with the white skunk stripe is just too big of a coincidence for me. Since Justin does taxidermy I think he is likely involved, with others, in creating the fake two headed alligator, the fake skunk ape photograph, and the Lettuce Lake video is the next best progression. All occurred in the same general area of Florida. Coincidences do happen, but this would be a big coincidence.

  15. In conclusion, the Lettuce Lake video appears to depict an actual skunk ape, and not surprisingly, the BFRO is shown to be flagrant liars in their grossly negligent review of external circumstances that they incorrectly used to come to their moronic and prejudiced conclusion. But then, we already knew that the BFRO is wrong at just about everything on Finding Bigfoot in their absolute assertions regarding Bigfoot behavior, which have no basis in fact. Their faulty assertions are simply assumed and based on extrapolations from behavior of other known forest fauna. And that is just for starters.

    1. WATERVILLE, Maine — In the same month the Statue of Liberty was dedicated in New York in 1886, a handful of newspapers in New England published stories about a deadly encounter in the Maine woods involving what today likely would be termed “Bigfoot” or “Sasquatch.”

The story of the 10-foot-tall “wild man” with 7-foot-long arms and hair growing all over his face and body was reported in broadsheets of the time after first gracing the pages of the Waterville Sentinel, a weekly paper that no longer exists. The Waterville Morning Sentinel was established 18 years later in 1904.

Tales of these seldom-seen, mysterious apelike beasts are found in Maine folklore, according to experts, but they are more prevalent in California, Washington and Oregon tales. Online searches yield hundreds of similar stories from around the globe.

The Maine story starts in early October 1886 when “an affrighted Frenchman from over the line” arrived in the Elm City to weave a frightening tale of woe, according to an excerpt from the Sentinel published in at least two other papers of the era, the Wilton Record and The Industrial Journal of Bangor.

“The Frenchman’s story, which is implicitly believed, is that three men were camping out in the woods about a hundred miles north of Moosehead Lake,” the 127-year-old newspaper articles state. “Two of the campers were away from the camp for a week and came back to find the dead body of their companion.”

The unnamed storyteller, possibly a Canadian, “had his fellows in town all by the ears” with the story about the giant wild man he encountered in the dense woods above Moosehead, according to the papers.

When he and the other camper discovered their friend was dead, they searched out others to form a posse to find his killer.

“They went for help and reinforced by a dozen others searched the woods for the unknown murderer,” the stories read. “It proved to be a terrible wild man, ten feet tall, with arms seven feet in length, covered with long, brown hair. The party fired several shots at him and finally succeeded in reaching a fatal spot, laying the monster low.”

Newspapers of this era used few images, and none of the articles had accompanying sketches of the “wild man.”

The person stomping on something in the water-quicly grabbing at it then seemingly removing a snake or similar-
If you are faking a video at that distance and obstructions you don't go to that extreme --especially in a swamp where someone wearing a costume would instantly get water logged.
