Todd Standing Bigfoot DNA Results: Lab Says Human

I'm not sure what's going on. First Standing had DNA results to announce at the Sasquatch Summit in Washington, then his house was broken into and the items to be tested were stolen, now the results have been tested and have come back human. But Todd disagrees with the results, claiming the gaps in percentage between human and chimpanzee are too large to be a human. According to Standing, from what he has learned on the Internet about DNA sequencing, there is no known primate that matches these results.

At one site near Radium Hot Springs, B.C., Standing said he leaves apples out in the wilderness only to find them devoured hours later.

“I can’t say I’ve trained them … I’ve habituated them to take food gifts from me.”

About two months ago, he said, one of the mysterious creatures left behind a strand of hair. Standing submitted the sample to Paleo-DNA Laboratory, part of Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.

Three tests concluded the hair matched human genes. The lab also compared the strand to the DNA of chimpanzees — the closest genetic relative of humans — and found it matched, to varying degrees.

“Based on my results, it looks like it’s human hair,” said Stephen Fratpietro, who conducted the tests. “That’s what every indication has led me to believe.”

Standing doesn’t see it that way. Based on all that he has read about DNA sequencing on the web and in scientific journals, he said he cannot find another confirmed species of primate with the same genetic makeup.

The bigfoot believer said two sets of results, one confirming a 100 per cent link to humans, another finding an 85 per cent match to chimp DNA, are unusual and inconsistent with what he has learned about documented species. He said the 15 per cent gap is too big to be human.

Fratpietro, who won’t deny bigfoot exists because “anything’s possible in science,” said DNA strands are rich with genetic information and, depending on where you look, the gaps between chimp and human DNA can vary.

“There’s nothing that says it’s not human.”

Standing is now on the hunt for another professional DNA lab that will test the hair and determine whether he is the man behind the latest sasquatch hoax or the only man with concrete evidence the beast exists.

    2. Time and again many of these DNA tests come back human. Part of the problem is who is doing the testing and the type of tests they do. I believe bigfoot is a relict hominid and is therefore a species of man, and the results are going to be very similar to humans.

Dr. Curt Nelson, biologist from the University of Minnesota and anthropologist Dr. Jeff Meldrum, from the University of Idaho were involved in having DNA tested from a board with screws in it that a Sasquatch allegedly stepped on. This aired on the "History Chanel's Monster Quest." The following quote contains findings from that show.

"They were able to extract DNA from the tissue found on the threaded bloody screws and found it was identical to human DNA, except it had one nucleotide polymorphism .....that nucleotide that was different, it was one shared with chimpanzees. They were able to extract DNA; it was primate DNA; they knew they were looking at the DNA structure of a sasquatch. The DNA said ‘primate’ but not quite human and not quite non-human primate... just one of the base pairs is deviated from ours!"

      http://www.alamas.ru/eng/publicat/DNA_of_Bigfoot_e.htm

Chimpanzees differ from homo sapiens by 35 base pairs. This DNA deviated by only one base pair. Now, that is a very limited DNA comparison. In depth sequencing of a genome can take a very long time, as was done with the complete genomes of Neanderthal man and Denisovan man.

    3. The commentary before the article says they thought it was stolen, but now its tested. Standing only claimed some of it was stolen and some of it was being held up in customs. Although I admit that's an odd thing to lose in a burglary.

    4. It appears Todd has to come to grips with Sasquatch being human... That's cool though, he's got plenty of time. It'll be interesting to see who else sequences this sample.

      : )

    5. Each time a sample is tested it is destroyed. A problem with matching the DNA to bigfoot is there is no type species to make a known DNA match to. Often times when the results come up human and something unknown its rendered contaminated or inconclusive.

I have little hope in DNA testing ever getting much traction without a type species or a good body part to go with it.

    6. Very interesting that DNA lessens once tested. I'm inclined to agree with you... At this rate it's gonna require another few occassions of sequencing similar results before the proverbial penny drops in many.

To me it's a no brainer; Sasquatch are human.

  7. was the mtDNA human or the whole genome? I guess they just tested the mtDNA. And it is time, Todd, to give up the giant ape (Giganto) theory...either there is no bigfoot at all or it exists, but is a unknown surviving archaic human, NO ape ...

LMFAO, Wow you actually think this is groundbreaking? You are heartbreakingly pathetic. Sorry little guy but Standing announcing that he found human DNA isn't a huge deal, see here on earth we have humans in abundance. Shouldnt be anything groundbreaking (to normal people) that he found human DNA. And as far as Standing announcing it doesnt match any known primates, thats great. Get someone who is actually an expert on DNA to say that and you are on to something. I know you are trying really hard here to not look like an idiot but its a little premature to start sounding your trumpet.
Sasquatch are human bro... Consider yourself a little wiser.
Or consider yourself a little more crazy depending on how you look at it. Sure we can listen to you ramble on about something thats not real in your own matter of fact way. I mean I think you've almost convinced yourself your little fairy tale is real. But I wouldnt say someone is wiser for believing in your bullsh*t. I mean another day and you still have no Sasquatch. Just Todd Standing saying its from an unknown primate. And people hate Todd almost as much as they hate you for the same reasons. Life's a b*tch huh?

    1. Nargh! The truth is Todd isn't wrong, that's an odd sequence and time and time again samples have come back as human;

"Mary Green and Dr. Fahrenbach have been unfairly attacked by critics for their opinions – they differed from the “ape norm.” But both have been unfortunately driven from the Bigfoot investigation field, mostly by “armchair” researchers. Bob Daigle, a friend of Mary Green’s, sent a hair sample collected from the Tennessee site to a DNA geneticist (named only as Dan), who found nothing but human results, the sample sequence being an exact match. He sequenced some 300 nucleotides from a mitochondrial gene called cytochrome b, and amplified a 1100 base pair fragment, then ran the results through GeneBank. The GeneBank is an open access annotated collection of nucleotide sequences and their protein translations. It lists some 100,000 distinct organisms and having in 2006 some 65 billion nucleotide bases and 61 million sequences.

Control tests were run that were deliberately contaminated with dog and cat DNA despite which still the Fox hair turned out to be human.

One of the main thrusts of Bigfoot research is to obtain a DNA sample for analysis to help solve Bigfoot’s genetic puzzle. Unfortunately possibly, several specimens have been obtained and analyzed and found to be contaminated. So, what is Bigfoot anyway? Ape, primitive man, human, or something else entirely. It is said that chimpanzee DNA is 98.5% Homo sapiens; not much room to squeeze between the human and the ape such things as: Australopithecines and Lucy, Alma, Homo Neanderthalis, Yowie, Mapinguari (Amazon), Yeran, Kaptur, Homo erectus, or Bigfoot, perhaps all are cousins? Perhaps the model for Bigfoot differs in different environments, which are what Darwin predicted from the variation in species found in the Galapagos."

    2. 15 percent is a significantly large gap and not normal. We know that Cro-Magnon and Otamids (who share our exact DNA) were more robust, larger with longer upper limbs, therefore having morphological and anatomical features different to ours. We also know people can have gigantism via adrenal glands, etc. Considering the different morphology of the skull of Cro-Magnon, it is longheaded, the forehead is straight, the brow ridges only slightly projecting, the cranial vault noticeably flattened, and the occipital bone (at the back of the head) projects backward. The cranial capacity of the Cro-Magnon is large, about 100 cubic inches. Although the skull is relatively long and narrow, the face appears quite short and wide. The forward projection of the upper jaw is also distinctive. The eye sockets are low-set, wide, and rather square in shape; and the nasal aperture of the skull is narrow and strongly projecting. The mandible is robust, with massive ascending ramus (the upward projection of the lower jaw, where it attaches to the skull), has strongly developed points of muscular attachment, and a quite prominent chin. Also, for more extreme differences in skull morphology, go take a look at the skulls of Australian Aborigines... Again, all share the same DNA as us. The standard arm to height ratio is .44H. The ratio extracted from the film is .49H. The arm length of Patty for example, is 5.5 standard deviations from the human mean which is the 99.9999981 percentile or is present in one out of 52.5 million people. the earliest Homo sapiens had bodies with short, slender trunks and longer limbs. As it turns out, Otamids (American Cro-Magnons and what have been documented around native burial areas linked to giant tribes) are defined as long and low headed with elongate distal limbs (ie. they were hunters like Late Pleistocene Europeans), are present right into the eastern Archaic and Middle Woodlands periods and are described simply as plesiomorphic (meaning primitive ancestral or primitive character) relative to 'derived' Americoids, resembling similar populations in Europe and Siberia and lacking Mongoloid features in their cranium and face. Scientists have discovered that about one in thirteen people have flexible ape-like feet. A team studied the feet of 398 visitors to the Boston Museum of Science. The results show differences in foot bone structure similar to those seen in fossils of a member of the human lineage from two million years ago. All these traits are associated with Sasquatch morphology & anatomy, and are very much human traits. Baring in mind Sasquatch bury their dead and have language, whilst they have always been reported to use clubs (tools)... This is culture in its purest and humans have culture. Oh... And just to finish up on your education you stupid excuse for an existence, early human ancestors and most other mammals' brains are wired with straightforward circuits that pick up information from the surrounding environment through the senses and relays that information to motor neurons so the body can move and respond to the surrounding environments.

In depth sequencing of a genomes can take years, this is the start of more testing, and if Sasquatch are human and you still haven't proven any of your points.

  12. A single gene was sequenced. 'Relic hominid' cannot be a testable outcome with such a small sequence analyzed.
