Searching For Bigfoot Increasing In Popularity In the Northeast

Editor’s Note: This is a guest post by Bigfoot Chicks, Melissa Adair. As serious researchers, the Bigfoot Chicks are commited to seeking the truth regarding the Bigfoot mystery. Assuming that Bigfoots exist, they want to help ensure their surival and hope for an opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat. You can visit their blog at bigfootchicks.blogspot.com.

With the popularity of the show "Finding Bigfoot" there is a renewed interest in solving the mystery about this legendary creature. Though sighting reports date back hundreds of years and there is much in the way of folklore about Bigfoot, popular culture is once again entertaining the idea that the creature might be real. "I welcome the possibility.....with so many sightings out there, somebody is seeing something,'' says David Rupert, the Central Pennsylvania Director of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot society.

Rupert has been interested in Bigfoot since he was a boy and his mother bought him a flip book on Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. Bigfoot stuck with him and now he and his family participate in Bigfoot research as well as UFO and ghost research.

Rupert has never seen a Bigfoot, but spends a lot of time in the woods with his family hoping for an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the creature.

Steve Ujvari of the Poconos is another Bigfoot researcher who has spent a lot of time in the woods.

"Unlike Rupert, Ujvari believes he has actually seen a Bigfoot creature, although it wasn't on the most recent expedition. It occurred a few years ago when he and fellow investigators for the Bigfoot Research Organization were on an expedition in the Adirondack Mountains. They were using thermal imaging, which he said is the only way to see a Bigfoot creature because the animals like the dark. The figure was behind a tree and on all fours. The men were watching it for about 15 minutes when suddenly it poked its head and shoulders out and they were sure it was something unique, he said".

It was a highly exciting encounter for Mr. Ujvari who describes the event as a "religious experience".

With all the hype in the news about Bigfoot and pictures of the famous creature "Patty" from the Patterson-Gimlin film and was captured in California, many in the northeast are surprised to learn about sightings in the Pennsylvania area.

"Many people are surprised at the idea of Bigfoot sightings in Pennsylvania, believing that Bigfoot is a legend associated with the western United States. But Rupert said the Indians of Pennsylvania have a long tradition of Bigfoot legends that stem from the acres of state forests that spread across Pennsylvania."

"There are just as many secluded wooded areas here as there are out West,'' said Rupert
