You know about them face-detection feature that comes with your camera? Works like magic right? Well, we have them too, and our minds are very good at finding faces on everything. No matter how vague, the human brain is able to detect faces on trees, faces on the moon, and even faces on faces.

Maybe Phil does not think they are all phonies, but that some of these people are simply mistaken and he is pointing out there mistake. Could be that he believes not every viewer realizes its pareidolia. Or maybe he just wants to get on record not every footer is interchangeable with a ghost hunter. Probably a little of each; but why the hate? He cannot possibly be taking real money out of anyones pocket, which is the only good reason that comes to mind.
