Explanation of "Minnesota Bigfoot Howls" Audio, Full Recording To Be Released (Updated)

The "Minnesota Howls" clip that was "mysteriously" removed from the BFRO's Facebook page a few days ago now has an origin. A Bigfoot researcher named Andy P., who claims to be one of the researchers investigating this recording posted a comment sharing some details about its origin.

According to Andy, the howls were all recorded using a a Sony PCM-M10 recorder on March 15, 2012 in northern Minnesota. They sent the audio to an audio expert friend, and through excitement or miscommunication, the friend decided to share it on an internal BFRO Investigator's forum. According to Andy, this was a big mistake-- someone in the BFRO decided to share the audio in a public forum and it has now inadvertently fallen into public hands. "Even after it was made clear that this is copyrighted material and that the owner did not want it made public at this time. It seems that the integrity of the BFRO investigators is continuing to slide, and I am sorry to see it happening," wrote Andy.

Andy notes that they have completed their investigation and have "FULLY vetted this recording, the witness, and the location". He says they we will be posting the recording in full on a website specifically for the purpose of sharing.

"I expect that we will have a copy of the original unedited file, the enhanced version posted here (the audio expert we gave it had, I believe, cleaned up a lot of the background noise in this version), as well as several smaller clips from it that can be downloaded and used for call blasting."

Here's the recording if you haven't heard it yet. It's creepy has hell:

From Andy P.:

My name is Andy P., I am a squatch researcher in MN. I am one of the people researching this recording. I thought I should come on here and give you a little background on this, now that it is public. First, I apologize that this got made public the way that it did. We submitted the audio to an audio expert friend who, through a miscommunication about the wishes of the witness and his excitement about the recording, shared it with the internal BFRO Investigator's Chat board before we had fully vetted this recording or finished our investigation into the location which is still progressing.

I confess, I am very disappointed that someone in the BFRO chose to break their NDA and disclose this file here, even after it was made clear that this is copyrighted material and that the owner did not want it made public at this time. It seems that the integrity of the BFRO investigators is continuing to slide, and I am sorry to see it happening. If you are a BFRO Investigator, please consider how breaking witness confidence and wishes like this undermines your credibility with other witnesses.

Oh well, cats out, not going to shove it back in now. So here is a little background. The audio was recorded in the early morning hours using a Sony PCM-M10 recorder on March 15, 2012. The person who got the recording has been researching in northern MN for years. He obtained permission to place the recorder from a land owner in a location where vocalizations had been heard. He's been setting the recorder out and leaving it all night (yes, the stick snapping you hear is something unknown moving around the recorder and not the witness moving; he was not present during the event). He's literally recorded and listened to days’ worth of recordings from this area.

The location is a wooded habitat broken with large bogs and streams. We are currently studying this area more in depth, placing a few other recorders around the area. We have managed to record a few more vocalizations as well.

When we have completed our investigation and have FULLY vetted this recording, the witness, and the location, we will be posting the recording in full. We are currently creating a site specifically for the purpose of sharing evidence like this with the community at large, free of charge. I expect that we will have a copy of the original unedited file, the enhanced version posted here (the audio expert we gave it had, I believe, cleaned up a lot of the background noise in this version), as well as several smaller clips from it that can be downloaded and used for call blasting. We'll also present a much more detailed account of the recording and a critical analysis of it and the other recordings we are getting. Again, we have no intention to charge for any of this, so anyone claiming that it was pulled because someone wants money is pushing BS. It just takes time to investigate a site like this and to also build the infrastructure for the new website we are developing to host and share evidence. Please bear with us, we hope to have all this available by midsummer.

Thank you,

Andy P.

[Update] The audio file has been removed from SoundCloud due to copyright complaint against the uploader.

  1. fucking bf'n_bfro... Those guys suck. And the tv "show" is a insult to legit reasearchers.

    1. I need to reiterate here. I made an error in calling out the BFRO on this. They did not leak it and are blameless in this. My comments were based on bad information I had received and I am sorry for having made them. I hope Matt and crew will accept my apology.

  2. How do you copyright a sound/sounds made in the woods? If someone else made a recording of the same event would he/she be prevented from playing it for others?. How would the owner of this particular recording gain redress if someone simply copied the recording and claimed to be there at the same time? For the record, I think this is just another hoax with intent to make money off the bigfoot legend.

    1. I know who Andy P is and he is not going to hoax anybody. He is as legitimate an investigator as there is in the field, and played an important part in parts of the production of the Minnesota episode of finding Bigfoot, and I know Cliff holds him in high esteem.

He and the others involved in this are setting on the absolute best recordings since the Morehead, Berry tapes. I know there will be some folks who will come on here and start slamming it but they don't know Andy and they don't know squat. I look forward to the final product and continued research in this area which has gained high notoriety for being Bigfoot habitat.

  3. That made a chill run down my spine. The one thing that caught my ear was that the echo sounds like its in a tunnel. I don't know the acoustics of Minnesota backwoods so can't tell if this is normal or not. The echo just sounds weird. If it is done by someone in a tunnel that could make the sound go longer as well as make it sound like 2 or more individuals when the maker of the sound started again. (I may be wrong about that though) If a tunnel was used it would have to be massive though. It's just a thought. What do you people think?

    1. It is part the woods, and part the enhancement that the audio expert did to the file. It is not as prominent in the original.

  4. It's pretty clearly a recording of a wolf howl that has been slowed down in sound editing software.

  5. Andy, if you're serious about investigating this, take this youtube video and slow it down to about half speed. It sounds exactly like the audio you have.

    1. 451,there are like 3 creatures in the bigfoot recording, 1 maybe 2 in the foreground and 1 in the background. I'm no wolf specialist but 3 wolves doesn't seem like enough to take down a deer, you would need like 5 or something.
there are like 3 creatures in that bigfoot recording. Not enough for a wolf pack I think.

    2. Slowing down audio translates the frequencies as well. There is no sign of that as far as I can tell from looking at the background noise spectrum. A full recording would confirm that. You are entitled to your opinion of course but you need to do a thorough investigation first. Since only the originator has more of the recording I guess we will have to wait before we launch into incorrect conclusions. I do wish commentators would do their homework properly before emabarrasing themselves.

    3. It's pretty obvious someone slowed down an audio file of wolves howling, then played it through a stereo or amp and recorded it in real time while walking through the woods.

Ah, who am I kidding, its a mythical apeman who for some unknown reason sounds exactly like a recording of wolves howling played at half speed.

    4. billy, when the creature stops in the foreground, the back ground starts up with different howls. all i have is Turtle Beaches and even I can tell that. and 451, your wolf theory sounds plausible but i mean come on! it matches the majority of bigfoot howls that CAN'T be identified by zoologists.

    5. FYI, a single adult wolf can take down a deer. It helps to have friends, sure, but it's not necessary.

    6. F.Y.I. There is a trailcam series of pics showing a lone bobcat killing a deer. Even a single yote can kill a deer. It will just chase the deer till it is too tired to fight.

    7. @451

Did you actually even listen to this? You are still trying to say it was wolves being slowed when slowing it down was ruled out. the stick snapping, the insects? If it was slowed then why do some of the vocals reach a pitch so high, I had to turn my speakers down? It's not just different creatures it's different voices. Some are low others are high and at the same time.

Skeptical is one thing. But you seem to take it to an extreme of complete stupidity. EVERYTHING on here up for "consideration" is immediately attacked by you and your weak arguments. You are a Genetics expert and then you were a video expert, then you were a sound expert and now you are a wolf expert? lol I think believing in Bigfoot has better odds to be honest.

  6. I have a golden retriever about same size as a wolf that howls like a wolf every morning. He started doing it several months ago, don't know why but we are amused by it. My computer is hooked up to an amplifier with some pretty good speakers so I played it for him this morning. He took off running and I found him in the bedroom, a place he never goes only when I go to sleep.

  7. Sounds like four in the recording. It's so creepy and sad sounding. Are they mourning howls? What time of night was it? Sounds like an elephant almost, or heck, a humpback whale! Both, to my knowledge don't habitat the MN woods.

  9. Speed this up slightly and it would sound alot more like wolves howling, just speculating. Interesting and creepy, lookforward to more.

  11. reguardless of what people think of the sounds ive been in the woods within 35 miles of the lake chapaca sighting and heard sounds that ive never heard before and they were so chilling that bout 30 deer came running past where we were bow hunting not even looking at us. what made the sound i dont know what it was but it was no wolf, coyote, ram, or person we were 15 miles from the closest road,on the same trip we saw 2 tracks by a creek in the mud to big for people feet thats for sure, the folks i was with are non believers but said those were the 5th set of tracks they have seen in the last year in that general area

  16. It will be back, and, no, the owner has no intention of charging for it for general personal use.

As many have said, this needs to be vetted. The full recording needs to come out, but we didn't want it to do so until we could provide you with all the facts surrounding it, otherwise all we are left with is speculation about whales in MN. ;) Please let us do our job and vet it fully. When done we will release in in it's full, unedited format along with our findings. Just give us a couple months to finish the investigation and to build a home to serve this and other recordings we have been getting in the area. I promise it will be worth the wait.

    Thanks for your patience,

    Andy P
