Who Are The Real Bigfoot Researchers?

Editor’s Note: This is a guest post by Tom Fonner. He has been exploring the backcountry of Arizona for over 30 years. He enjoys the solitude and peace of the outdoors with a passion for wildlife, nature, and landscape photography, tracking, hiking, camping, and fishing. You can visit his blog at swbri.blogspot.com.

It's important...for many reasons.

The casual Bigfoot/Sasquatch enthusiast and the weekend investigator searches and reviews the various sites to find an array of opinions, viewpoints, and discussions on the most up to date information. They salivate over the words of wisdom offered by the noted and more famous of the internet Bigfoot/Sasquatch celebrities. They relish the most recent blurry and awkward You Tube evidence, the occasional photograph, and the commentary from those they put on the highest pedestal. All of this is repeated day after day and often over the same things that the faithful worked themselves into a frenzy for just hours previously. It is like the old saying of continuing to beat the same dead horse.

How often do we see or pursue something new an refreshing in this arena? Who is it that we really research and follow, and do we try and find something that will lead us to the reality and hope for the verification of Bigfoot/Sasquatch. Most of the time we pursue entertainment or the quirk that plays out the best with the participants in the limelight. We rarely focus on the down to earth investigative group of individuals working to find that one fleeting moment that will stand as a significant and as a verifiable event. We are consumed with self gratification, the chance to shine with our latest You Tube upload, our insightful words of wisdom, and the chance to cash in on our new found moment of fame.

Those that deserve our attention from day to day are the individuals and groups that work in the background to find evidence which can be viewed, examined, and evaluated with the hope of having something to follow up on. These are the people that go into the backcountry and do the work for themselves as well as for the Bigfoot/Sasquatch community as a whole. They may have the blog, web page, or site but they do not pursue the path of profit or fame. This does not mean they do not want recognition for their efforts, everyone does. They just don't make profit and fame their primary focus as do many of those we so often follow.

Take the time to find and follow that special group of individuals who have their priorities straight. If we all make an effort to weed out the trash that tends to prevail in this arena, we may find and applaud that special group of individuals that will uncover the evidence that we really need to discuss and share with others.

  1. " The term "blobsquatch" refers to any vaguely bigfoot-shaped mass seen (or not) in an otherwise unremarkable photograph of trees."

  2. What is it exactly that 'those who work in the background' do to distinguish themselves from the bigfoot elite? Do they not get thier inpiration and direction from the Biscardies and Moneymakers of the bigfoot world? It is this royalty , if you will, that has furnished us with the plethora of traits and behaviors of bigfoot without one piece of biological evidence ever being presented. I suspect that those of you who believe in bigfoot/sasquatch mis-understand the skeptical argument as a wholesale and absolte doubt of its' existence but that is simply not the case. I think there are many skeptics who want to be proven wrong and have bigfoot presented to them as fact. The problem is, and always has been, that no real, biological evidence has ever been shown anywhere. I'm sure many of you are aware of the weak coffee argument that basically states that no matter how many cups of weak coffee you pour together, you will never get a cup of strong coffe from it. Please do not take this as flippant or silly, but it appears to me that almost everyone doing bigfoot research does the same thing over and over and, at some point, expects a different result.

    1. The coffee argument is an excellent analogy and explains where I stand. While I can't discount all of the eyewitness reports, and this keeps me hopeful, the people who consider themselves "researchers" are merely weak coffee. They are unable to produce anything whatsoever resembling scientific evidence. No amount of coyote calls will convince me or anyone else that there is a Sasquatch out there.

    2. I should add that the footprint evidence seems convincing. However, a few footprints can be hoaxed. And no one seems forthcoming on the distance any of these footprints can be traced.

    3. I agree with your point but disagree with the statement that there is no biological evidence ever being presented. The Finding Bigfoot shows, etc. are not intended for evidence collection; only entertainment and exposing the public to bigfoot. There has been hair collected, DNA collected, tracks, vocalizations that can't be identified, etc. all linked to eye-witness accounts who claimed to see a creature that resembles a bigfoot. The problem is they are listed as "unknown" or unknown primate.

I agree, same old information being re-hashed. Hopefully something new will come out soon to link the real evidence to a living creature.

    4. @Gary B...Your last statement sounds like the definition of stupidity.

  3. The only problem with " If we all make an effort to weed out the trash that tends to prevail in this arena"
everyones idea of what trash is varies, so i don't think we will ever get rid of all the trash.

  4. I have always found it funny that these so called experts or researchers are the ones that never really find anything. It's the weekend warrior or the guy driving down a road near the woods are the ones finding sightings.

    1. Sure. These guys so-called "knowledge" of these beings just leads them into bad avenues, such as coyote howling with a production crew. That will never get any evidence of an elusive creature, any such creature, not just the Big Guy.

  5. Anyone can come close really. That's fairly easy, an encounter or witness. The next level, to real data is tougher, and meaningful data realy tough. Right now with given teams/methods a dedicated individual with a few decent pieces of equipment and personal bravery will get further faster, but then what?

  6. I've said this for years. The biggest obstacle for Bigfootery are the so called "experts". Whenever the community is willing to weed out the hucksters, con men known hoaxers, morons and delusional from their ranks, the entire situation will improve dramatically. But when your leading lights are these guys? That's no way to get scientists interested. Heck what do you have left? Meldrum and his silly theories? (Which might be more motivated by $$$ than anything else).... It's one of the fundamental problems of woo. It attracts the loons, the cheats and the self promoters and they don't hang around in the background, no they go right to the top so as to maximize their $$$ or attention (whichever they crave)

Clean it up, only you footers can do it. Until then, how can you possibly blame us skeptics for being so critical? When these so called experts are such nutjobs and con artists? Biscardi? sTANDING? MONEYMAKER? HELLO!!MCFLYYYYY!!!!

You clean it up, perhaps get some younger people involved with degrees in biology and zoology to follow the proper scientific procedures involved when attempting to locate a yet discovered creature...Maybe you might find something.

But right now, the whole world of footery is sillier than Ghost Hunters or UFO's

    1. Very well put.
There is one born every minute and there will always be a PT Barnum eager to fleece the sheeples.
Ppl open your eyes and don't accept anything but facts.
Refuse to be bullied and remember that by asking the right questions and only accepting facts will be the only way to weed out the liars.
Without followers they will fade away and be replaced by those seeking the truth.

    2. Imagine if all the effort & money being put out was focused on putting hired scientist, researchers, trackers, photographers etc in the field. Ya know doing it the right way with out the showmanship.
Right now those really honest about the truth have to sift through a haystack of crap to find a needle of possible evidence.

    3. "Meldrum's silly theories?" I take issue with that. His theory is a very well educated guess. He actively tries to get other scientists involved. So does Bindernagel. Other than that decent post.

    4. Meldrum's theories are mainly bullshit, he gets away with it easier because he has a "Dr." in front of his name. If he were a hillbilly type everyone would think he was a cook, but because he presents himself as a professional, it is easier to be deceived into believing what he is saying is true. Tripe is tripe no matter who presents it.

  7. Someone doing research that doesn't do videos about themselves or their own sighting constantly ! Thats someone tryingto do bigfoot research,.

    2. Exactly only post a video or a blog when you've found something solid. That is what Erickson/Olympic Project, Meldrum, Bindernagel, Alley, ... probably missing some. Legitmate seekers of truth.
