Understanding How Sasquatch May Eat

Editor’s Note: This is a post by Bigfoot Evidence contributor, Damian Bravo, a Sasquatch believer. You can join Damian's group Sasquatch Lives? on Facebook and the group's official page at www.sasquatchlives.com.

We have all heard that Sasquatch loves bacon and pancakes and even the Finding the Big Guy team on television placed donuts to bring them in. They said Sasquatch loves sweets like Twinkies and tried to lure him in, which in the end did not work. Now, let’s look at this from the outlook of what a massive being of this size, which many say range from 6 to 10 feet, would need to survive in the wilderness of North America. How would Sasquatch make it through long winters with hardly any food to hunt for during this time?

Some even believe that Sasquatch is an opportunistic apex predator who hunts but will also grab kills from other animals if need be. Sasquatch has also been said to have similar hunting patterns as grizzly bears with a very versatile diet ranging from fish to aquatic plants. Although they are considered carnivores and their digestive system reflect this; they are more omnivores because of the variety in their daily food intake.

According to the usual descriptions of Sasquatch, he is described as an immense, bulky beast with 4 foot wide shoulders, incredible muscular tone, and with super human speed and strength. Now, if this is the actual physicality of Sasquatch then the amount of caloric intake he would need to maintain such physical attributes and stamina must be off the charts.

Depending on their individual size, most bears need an intake of 10,000 or more calories per day to survive in the wild and could even be more if larger. There have been recorded cases of grizzlies weighing up to 1500 pounds. Naturally, we do not know the exact weight of Sasquatch, but some say it’s more than 500 pounds, and on average most bears are close to this weight. If this is the case, then we must assume that 10,000 calories per day would not be out of the question for Sasquatch to survive in its habitat.

But what about winter, how does Sasquatch make it through the harsh winters in North America? It could be that Sasquatch consumes large amounts of foods that are high in fats for building mass through the spring, summer, and fall months, resulting in its often described size and bulk by witnesses.

It is also a possibility that their diets can vary based on the geographical area that they may roam. Another possibility is that they are different from one area to another, just like primates and humans. The cycles of the different seasons and the variations in diets could explain the many different descriptions in size and bulk of this creature.

Like many creatures of the forest, the size and appearance of Sasquatch could vary depending on if there are large amounts of food sources to feed on. Sasquatch has also been said to be a social creature with its own kind, some believe they have the ability to create fire just like us, cook their food, and even make tea for medicinal purposes. All are possible reasons as to why they can live through such hard winters in caves and dens.

When we talk about Sasquatch, many can see a high level of intelligence in their actions, and the elusiveness they achieve may be an adaptation to stay clear of humans. Considering their intelligence and the vast wilderness of this continent with so many rich food sources, it’s a wonder how many can believe that a being of such size could not thrive in the bountiful and beautiful landscape of North America.

  1. Ok screw this! I hate how statements like Squatches love Bacon or sweets like Twinkies is ground breaking! Who the hell doesn't like Bacon or Twinkies! Hell I even like Twinkies wrapped in Bacon, so someone saying Bigfoots like sweets or Bacon is like saying a Squatch won't devour a double double at In N Out! General obvious statements are not facts.

    Enjoyed th article though.

    1. It was stated on "Finding Bigfoot" and in various encounter reports.

As far as starting fires some of the Native American reports stated they lived in caves and could make fire when they wanted to. I also read a scary scary report on "Bigfoot Encounters" about a guy who had gone to an isolated place where few others would go,probably looking for gold and had found a fire with a puppy roasting on it. That's all- a fire with a puppy on a split roasting. He did not know who or what was cooking it because there was no one there or they had left when they saw him coming but it scared him badly. He had encountered no humans and did not encounter any after that. I'll go see if I can find the link. It was fascinating.

    3. Here is an example of how you can't assume all Hominid reports are Sasquatch (As in Patty).

Almasty of Russia, Mongolia, China and the Caucasus are reported to make fire and medicinal teas and occasionally ware clothes and carry weapons. We also have these reports in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. "Neandrathiods"

The things in the South behave completely different and seem to be hairier and shorter on average. Unlike in the PNW, these things are said to be highly aggressive and territorial. (Pacific Northwest Sasquatch are thought to be nomadic and migratory as sightings drop in the winter here in Washington.) Some of the Southern reports say they have fangs and four or three toed feet which could mean a mix of two different creatures reported in the same areas. which brings me to Skunkapes.

Skunkapes have fangs and would leave three or four toed footprints because they are most likely true apes with hand like feet. Depending on how the toes are spread as they walk, the prints from the same animal could vary. Florida has a problem with invasive species both plant and animal because virtually anything can not only survive, but flourish there. How skunkape got mixed in with "Bigfoot" I will never know. The actual reports are of chimp and orangutan-like creatures.

A-lot of the reports that come out of my native Texas are even more differing. East Texas reports are mostly they typical Southern Sasquatch. (Overly hairy around five-six feet tall and bulky.) But central and north Texas reports are of tall lanky creatures that are well toned, but not massive.

How can you determine a things diet when the descriptions point to multiple things?

There are only so many food sources that they can rely upon and I am sure chasing deer, elk etc. would involve far too many calories...unless they act like a team ...but once again this has never been documented.

    1. Good point. Brown bears can be found easliy by salmon streams when the salmon are running. No logical reason why sasquatch would not go after salmon as well. Unless of course they don't actually exist.

  9. Maybe Squatch hibernates? Or seeks lower ground in winter? Maybe they live off human garbage? Or shaves and goes through the drive through?

  10. Living where I do, I know there are plenty of food sources for Bigfoot during the winter. This would be of the protein variety because there isn't much plant life in the winter.
I've observed Big Horn Sheep, Deer and Moose in the areas I go to. There are plenty of squirrels and hares as well.
These are the animals I have seen. I know Cougars are in the area, as well as Coyotes and Grizzly Bears (spring-fall).
Their is a vast amount of prey in these spots, so I think Sasquatches in this locale could live quite well.

  11. Also responding to SasquaiNations post,I agree and I do believe their activity level is lower in the winter, this being based on various reports I've read. All of this is just my opinion though.

  13. I would like to know how this creature could catch and kill "Big Horn Sheep, Deer and Moose, squirrels and hares". I will believe it when I see proof that a creature this large can chase down and wrestle large game to death. We know nothing about feeding habits, despite claims that suggest it eats this and that. Show proof.
A grizzly has tooth and claw....what is the sasquatch to do...wrestle a moose? Most carnivores/omnivores have a killing bite unless they are tool users - humans.

    1. These are the animals in the forests here. I never said I knew how they caught them.
If you want proof, then go out in the forest with your camera.
How does a Grizzly or any other predator catch it's prey? They chase it down. Once the prey is caught, it doesn't matter if it's a killing bite, a neck break or a choke that causes the prey to expire.
Evey herd has weak, young, or sick members so this makes hunting easier for predators.
It gets a bit tiresome when people say "show me proof" when those people have likely never ventured out in the woods.
If the day comes that I ever catch proof on video, then I will share that.
I haven't even been able to catch a Cougar on video. Try it some time, it's not as easy as you would think.

    2. SN I agree it gets very frustrating especially with so many sightings of them carrying so many different animals and being observed catching deer.

There have been tons of reports of them beating animals against trees, stomping on them or hitting them against rocks. (check out Bigfoot Encounters and the reports) but apparently when you're as big as they are they don't have to wait till the animal is dead as related in this story where a farmer caught one eating a live cow
      who was bellowing in agony,

http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=8745 ( about the middle of the page)

or they just simply ripped this cow in two

Scroll down the page a bit
      http://www.bigfootencounters.com/sbs/oldermissouri.htm

I think they are forragers and scavengers who will eat anything they can find. They've been seen eating road kill just look in the reports of the BFRO and other sources. The information is there.

I'm thinking they use the rocks/trees to kill the prey as they are bashing the head and body against it. I'm sure they could break the neck if they wanted, but I suspect they just use the easiest way.
After all my Grandpa used to kill chickens by swinging them in circles till the head came off. Gave me nightmares for years thinking about those headless chicken running around afterwards!

    3. these creatures supposedly walk upright which leads to the possible conclusion they are close to human intelligence if this is the case I'm sure they are intelligent enough to use some form of tools and weapons. Chimpanzees as well as some types of birds have been documented using twigs as tools to reach inside logs to pulls insects out to feed on them. Also being as large as they have been reported they would have a large stride allowing them to cover longer distances with each step they could easily chase down a deer or even kill a bear by crushing windpipes or ribs given the amount of muscle they would need to support this large frame. Also if they have hands like a primate they have opossable thumbs allowing them to grab using they're hand giving them another advantage over other animals as well as primate like fangs similar to gorillas. As for why there never seen catching salmon or are rarely sighted is due to there intelligence and what they've seen of human how we are relatively aggressive killing anything we feel to be a threat or more dominant than us which they clearly would be if we lived in the same environment fighting for the same resources

  14. From what I know the farter north and the colder the climate the bigger mammals get. Deer, bear, wild boar, siberian tiger etc. The weather basically culls the herd so only the most robust of a species suvive.
How have humans and lots of other animals coped with winter food supply? They harvest more than they need and store the surplus for winter.
So these would be my best guesses on this. As always this is only if they do exist.

    1. Because they seem to be nocturnal. What you are asking about has been done many times. And then the footage is quickly labeled as either hoax or inconclusive.

But I must confess, the NVG's we had while I was in the army sucked and gave me a headache. You could not tell a hill from a hole, but you could definitely see facial features even back then. I know that technology has to have gotten better since then. So though I do believe Sasquatch does exist, I have no idea why they use cam's that do not focus to record these things with.

Yes it bothers me that we can distinctly see Paris Hilton having sex in the dark, but we can't see anything but shape on these supposed Sasquatch night vision footages.

But with that said, if you see a briefcase with a million dollars in it just sitting out in the open with no one around, are you going to just walk up and take it? Or would you scout around first?

If these things do have acute night vision, then the little red light on the camera probably sticks out like a sore thumb to them. I know even with the crappy NVG's we had when I was in the army, you could see a guy smoking a cigarette in the middle of the woods a mile away.

    2. Thanks,good post.

Personally,I have always wondered why so many of them seem to walk right out in from of cars on the road especially at night.

      Delete
    3. Sorry in FRONT of cars is what I meant to say. I was referring to the numerous reports that have stated this.

      Delete
    4. I often thought about that. I think they either enjoy doing it, or they possibly misjudge the speed of the vehicle. Or it could be curiosity and they stand there to see what is making the noise?

There is a report that was near by where I live where one approached a guy who was pulled over on the side of the road taking a break from his paper route. He stated that as it walked to his vehicle it's eyes were fixed on the interior of his jeep. His dome light was on and he saw someone approaching so he turned it off the see who it was, then saw what it was and split.

      http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=6806

The car thing could be a game to them, or maybe they are just overly curious. Some may say "Then why don't they approach the bait in front of the camera?" But none of these sightings occur where people are looking for the Sasquatch. They happen when the Sasquatch is caught looking at the people.

People say "How come we can find bears but not Sasquatch?" ect... Simple answer.. They do not want to be found and they know more about us than we know about them. If this sounds odd, think about it this way; There is no creature on earth more predictable than Homo Sapiens... They will always know where we are and how to find us. We make roads that we drive on, houses that we live in and follow the same routines every day. We stick to trails in the forest and clear an area for a camp sight and make a fire. and then make a crap load of noise.

They would know what we sound like and what we smell like and our habits and behaviors.

So is it any surprise that they would also know how to avoid us?

    http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=8547

[The animal(Bigfoot) dropped to all fours, bunched up its rear legs and leaped. It took two leaps to reach the hogs and it screamed during the second leap causing the hogs to panic for a split second. The second leap ended with it slapping one hog in its side, knocking it through the air into side of a tree. As the squealing hog bounced off the tree, it pounced on it, beating it with its fist like a person pounding on a desk. I could hear bones crunching with each hit. All this happened very fast. About 4 seconds from first leap to dead hog. The quickness of attack was very unnerving.]

You might want to read the rest of the story it's pretty informative.
