What Came First, The Chicken or The T-Rex? The Possibilities of Evolution [Science]

In the ever changing evolutionary world, the mysteries that are or have been discovered can sometimes bring surprising revelations and possibilities. Right now if you can see a bird or have one for a pet, there is a possibility that you might be looking at a dinosaur. In recent years scientist have been linking the T-Rex (Tyrannosaurus rex) to one of the world’s most favorite fowl to eat, especially if you like its friend, the chicken (Gallus domesticus.). It is quiet unimaginable to think that from such an immense beast like the T-Rex, that existed millions of years ago such a connection could be found.

Now we all know that chickens are not the smartest birds in the world, but neither was the T-Rex, they both have brains the size of a marble, the only difference, T-Rex was believed to be an apex hunter. In a study that was started in 2003, from a unearthed T-Rex leg bone, which looks like a giant drumstick, which was by found Jack Horner from the Museum of the Rockies. The study found the T-Rex bones still contain intact soft tissue, including the oldest preserved proteins ever found, scientists said at the time.

From the protein's chemical structure they determined a possible evolutionary link between T-Rex and chickens. According to two studies published in the April 13 issue of the journal Science. The collagen found in the T-Rex is the main ingredient of connective tissue in animals and is found in cartilage, ligaments, tendons, hooves, bones and teeth, which yields gelatin and glue when boiled in water.

The new finding at the time were viewed skeptically and were thought to be very, very, very controversial because at the time most scientists had gone on record saying “there's an absolute time limit to anything that's protein or DNA," said Mary Schweitzer, a molecular paleontologist at North Carolina State University.

Dr. Mary Schweitzer first discovered soft tissue in dinosaur fossils almost two decades ago.

These finds are now being looked at as a possible connection, as science progresses new equipment and technology are been invented to make significant contributions. If this is possible with one species, could you imagine what other fantastic changes may have occurred in other species? Just like a giant reptile might had become a small fowl, could a small animal become a super evolved hominid but at the same time become sometime more primal but less human with some high level of intelligence. As we evolved new discoveries are waiting to be found, you never know it may be right in front of your eyes.

Below, renowned paleontologist Jack Horner gives a talk about how closely related chickens are to dinosaurs and how it's possible we can bring the giant creatures back to life. Basically, what they're trying to do is take our chicken, modify it, and make a chickenosaurus:

Renowned paleontologist Jack Horner has spent his career trying to reconstruct a dinosaur. He's found fossils with extraordinarily well-preserved blood vessels and soft tissues, but never intact DNA. So, in a new approach, he's taking living descendants of the dinosaur (chickens) and genetically engineering them to reactivate ancestral traits — including teeth, tails, and even hands — to make a "Chickenosaurus".

  1. That's intriguing. I know that long ago, people thought the plague was caused by bad character or other ridiculous things. Then, eventually, we learned of the microscopic world and learned of bacteria. We opened a whole new universe. It's interesting where DNA studies and stem cell studies are taking us--we are opening a whole new world and be able to make more connections. I just love science! It's so sexy!

  2. Imagine the size of the drumsticks!, Kentucky fry chicken would have been like the Flintstones! :)

  3. I call BS! Evolution can not be proven! Micro evaluation can be ( cells and bacteria evolve and change all the time). BUT macro evolution ( where a spiecies completely changes into a different species) can not be proven in the fossil record or recreated by science in a lab at all. There is absolutely no physical evidence to support a chicken evolved from a T-Rex or we or any other living thing came from a rock or sludge. Evolution is a belief system people who don't have religion or answers for how things come about. It's all hypothetical opinions of atheist scientists. Besides WHAT does this story have to do Bigfoot? Let's call these stories what they are, someone's opinion about how things started. I just can't blindly accept evolution when there is no evidence. IMO

    1. Did you actually read the article, it stated its a possibility, not that is fact, the story does not say in any place this is a proven theory, it bothers me when people jump the gun and assume that is what the writer is saying. He is making Also he stated about hominids evolving into something else. At the end he is making a conclusion to show that science does not know all the facts, Im not trying to be rude to you but, you need to pay attention to the words and not make statements when the writer of the article is not saying its a fact, on another not great article, makes me think of these possibilties and I believe in God and science. Whats wrong with that.

    3. i agree with that anonymous feller who called bs. i'm a adam and eve believer all the way. i dont even believe in dinosaurs except them from fairy tales.

dont feel bad aboyt the other replies anonymous. i hear you loud and clear. you and me are in this together.

  4. If I evolved from a dinosaur I would want it to be Pachycephalosaurus because of its built-in pith helmet.

    1. Mr.Natural I would like to evolve into a Terydactile so I can drop some big piles of common sense on people that assume.

  5. From the ground and up close and personal, turkeys and barnyard chickens, look a lot like the popular depictions of dinasours if you get past the feathers. The walk, the striking with their beaks (did they use them for computer modeling movement in Jurassic park?), their mindless opportunistic cannabalism..they are scary if you are a scorpian or bug or snake! great yard clean up.
The three tow claws do amazing digging...the turkeys especially seem prehistoric, their faces turn lavender and blue, and the skin tag grows from 1/2" to about 6" when they show off...so ugly they are beautiful.

  6. A trex brain was definitely larger than a marble. I get your point that it's brain was small, but it wasn't as small as a marble.Dinosaurs are kind of my thing, and I agree that it wasn't a bright animal.

  7. Also, there is no ancestral line of descent from large therapods like Trex to a modern chicken. They are anatomically similar, for instance, the only animals with a furcula (wishbone) besides birds are therapods. It is interesting to note that there are numerous fossils which beautifully preserve feather impressions from SMALLER therapods which had no other adaptations associated with flight. Now back to Bigfoot.

  9. I think some people are missing the point of this article. Some are acting like this is factual science. I do not see any place in the article that it states that. The author to me was just trying to bring some theories that are being explored by science today. I understand many on here do not agree with the idea that a chicken could have come from a dinosaur. But this makes me think, in the past crazy people with crazy ideas would be look upon as being strange and wierd, they have a name for people like this today, scientiist. I think Mr. Bravo was just showing a fun side of this and many are taking it to serious, the video is awsome, Mr Horner not only gives a great speech but is also quiet funny.

    1. I have to agree with your comment there. homo sapien. I have to ask this. Do you think othere cultures such as the japanese, chinese. Or even the ancient civilizations such the mayans believe in adam and eve. No they all have there owe world creation stories. As for this article , yes I do agree with some of it. Yum kentucky fried t rex.

    2. dear homo, i pert near made it all the way thru six grade but left school to support my family. you have the right to believe what you want but you dont need to get so mean hearted toward me just because i dont believe in dinosaurs. no one really knows if theyr real or not. how do you know that for sure? maybe the romans or the filisteins had big skelton statues and thems what were dug up? and even in six grade they taught me that one question mark was enough.

  11. Very good, but if you go and ask any professor of physical anthropology they will tell you that evolution is not a possibility, it's a fact.

  12. No disrespect intended towards anyone's belief system, but there is an a avalanche of evidence supporting evolution. Not so with Bigfoot. Yet people seem to reject evolution while accepting Bigfoot wholeheartedly. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

  13. This seems to be such a touchy subject I hesitate to comment, but I will anyway.

Just a bit of background: I grew up on a farm without any contact with the outside world; no computers, no TV, no newspapers. My Mom & Dad home schooled me through the use of a vast library and hands on experience with nature. They let me draw my own conclusions on religion and how things came to be.

What I concluded is nature is the force behind everything. Each person should be allowed to incorporate that, however they wish, into their own belief system, but to disregard it entirely seems silly and irresponsible.

    That's just one girl's perspective.

  14. I'm a Christian and pretty open-minded on evolution. I don't understand why people think that science and religion automatically contradict each other.
