Bart Cutino Member Of The Olympic Project Remains Relatively Hopeful & Realistic About DNA Testing Results

Editor’s Note: This is a guest post by Damian Bravo, a Sasquatch believer. You can join Damian's group Sasquatch Lives? on Facebook and the group's official page at www.sasquatchlives.com.

Since the recent increase in buzz regarding the possible release of the Ketchum papers, the heavy debates that have happened in many of the blog sites around the Relict Hominoid community have been more than overwhelming. As you may have noticed in many of my posts, I try to not use the word Bigfoot too much. My thinking is that we need to start pulling away from using this terminology so we can start giving more credibility to the dedicated scientists, biologists, and researchers who are putting their reputations on the line in the quest to find Sasquatch (The name Sasquatch derives from a Native American language called Halkomelem, and translates as "hairy man." The term refers to a large, ape-like biped that is also part of the Native Americans beliefs).

Many of us hope and desire to see a conclusion to this legend and see it become a proven fact. In all this craziness from this past week, I had the opportunity to touch base with another member of The Olympic Project, Bart Cutino, who once again gave me this exclusive to answer some of my questions.

Bart is a member of CA-BFRO, the AIBR, and recently accepted to become part of The Olympic Projects stellar team.

My Questions:

Bart, many people are excited to see you on board and part of the project. I was wondering, after you captured the supposed first thermal images of a Bigfoot, what was you first reaction when you saw this image? Have you seen a Hominoid of this type before? Did the image solidify your years of searching and did it give you a sense of satisfaction seeing such amazing details of the Hominoids bulk and size?

Also, what do you think will happen if and when the results of the DNA testing by Dr. Ketchum confirm the Hominoids existence? Do you think the scientists and biologists that are skeptics will finally come on board and help in the true study and classification of the species, regardless if the findings show a closeness to humans or not?

Bart Cutino’s Answers:

Did want to tell you though that the subject I witnessed through the thermal imager that night in WA 2007 was not recorded unfortunately (The BFRO report will explain perfectly why). It was just an amazing and life changing definitive sighting for me. The images you see from Bigfoot Evidence headline are actually a commemorative re-creation of the anatomical description of subject (he nailed it) courtesy of a Bigfoot Canadian artist, Brian Cundle. A lot of people get these facts confused but those are just re-creations. (see photo below)

Thanks Damian,

As a proud longtime member of two highly respected & very visible organizations in this field in both the Bigfoot Field Researcher’s Organization (BFRO) & Alliance Of Independent Bigfoot Researchers (AIBR), I’ve been fortunate & proud the last nine years to work with some of the finest people ever involved in this research. My primary objective is, and has always been, to either directly or indirectly facilitate inevitable discovery of these primates (who’ve collectively remained unscathed from official scientific recognition into present-day) through aggressive field efforts and public education on species viability in North America from a rational & ecological standpoint. With respect to these goals, I’m honored to join another very active and respected organization in The Olympic Project, whose research ideals parallel my own and whose membership is made up of not only outstanding researchers, but friends and highly respected colleagues.

After a lifelong passion for pursuit, my path as a researcher physically began in the spring of 2004 & culminated in the late summer of 2007 with a very definitive, roughly three-minute late night thermal encounter in the Northern Cascades of Washington State. Although I wasn’t able to record the subject that night due to technological limitations at the time, to have definitive personal confirmation after so many years of possibility and fascination, was a life changing event for me. The subject I witnessed that night from fifty (initially), to thirty-three yards (eventually), through a ten-foot clear “window” through the trees (it never vacated), cautiously acknowledged me from behind a tree, rapidly transitioned and maneuvered effortlessly on all fours using tremendous agility and body leverage (with disproportionate weight distribution, top to bottom) before standing “frozen” like a stealthy statue in the clear with its back to me.

Although the subject’s unique and stunning profile was unequivocal from my viewpoint (full profile north of calves), the second stunning realization was comparing my field partner’s 6’3, 170 lb, “winter-clothed” frame to the subject’s estimated half-foot height advantage and triple-weight body mass complete with lengthy arms and massive shoulders.

http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=26065

The realization of that night in 2007 wasn’t just limited to the reality of the subject I unexpectedly witnessed, if I wanted to go further down that path as a researcher, “knowledge & discipline” would almost certainly have to accompany my “drive and passion.”

Regardless, it would take more than three more years (February, 2011) of countless field nights and locations for another definitive interaction. This time in my home state of California in the northern coastal redwoods. My partner, CA State Park Ranger Robert Leiterman and I, captured video of reciprocal “knocking” and a progressive/aggressive tree destruction response event from instigative & intended provoking techniques. Due to the rarity of any interaction, to capture that event in the context of it happening “live” is something we’re admittedly very proud of:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5SNqAtFUM8

In regards to the heavily anticipated DNA study, researchers, enthusiasts and interested skeptics alike await results with a myriad of expectations & excitement and subject interest is feverishly high. From my personal perspective, I sit back relatively hopeful, but I remain realistic, cautious and restrained. Although I’ve believed for a long time, that barring collection of a newly deceased specimen, the logical “bypass” highway to discovery is through DNA & genome sequencing; realistically, I expect tempered acknowledgment (at best) of this “improbable species” from the standpoint of perceived lack of viability through the eyes of both science and the core general public.... until dead or alive, the actual eyes of a physical sasquatch are staring directly back at them.

That potential reality, coupled with the fact that the totality of hoaxes, blurry pictures, dead ends and ridiculous name “bigfoot,” which absent any plurality, understandably still gives an uneducated public the perception that people like us still chase one mythical animal with a perpetual lifespan. If we step back however, and accept that to be valid, “discovery” may have to patiently come in phases, it’s much easier to anticipate & appreciate the opportunities that are always in front of us ......not to mention....the one that “may’ve” just landed on our doorstep.

Bart Cutino
CA-BFRO, AIBR & The Olympic Project

As Bart stated, I also am hopeful but remain realistic. Whatever the Ketchum papers bring to the table, we must review them with patience and diligence; let’s not make hypostasis of what we do not know. Like he also stated, “discovery” may have to patiently come in phases. As we view these events as they unfold in the months to come, we will hopefully start a new and amazing journey. The scientists and biologists that have come onboard and researchers like Bart Cutino give me a sense of hope to realize my own childhood dream of watching these Hominoids become part of the new discoveries that await mankind.

  1. First of all i dont think Bart really is that good of a character to put any faith in. It is well known that Bart is best friends with moneymaker and supports him all the way. This is enough to question both his motives and his evidence. Every respected researcher i know of has put as much distance between themselves and moneymaker as they have with biscardi. Fact is, matt is an embarassment to this field of research and no one wants him hanging around making false claims, trying to steal credit, and ride coat tails. Plus he is such a bafoon that have the time he doesnt know whats going on. Or i guess that could be because of his drug use.
Fact is, that their are some great members of the BFRO who have collected great evidence. But their president will not allow that evidence to come to light because he has got his own agenda and wants his credit to fame. How is hiding good proof helping anyone? It would only serve to help his pocket for his drug use. When the ketchum project and erickson come out moneymaker is going to want something to compete with and keep his stupid show alive. But he will soon be drowned out for the ignorant child he is.

Bart supports this clown though. How can you call moneymaker a respectable researcher. Anyone who makes that claim has other motives or is just plain dumb. Or else maybe never met the guy. it takes two seconds of meeting the man or watching his tv show to know how much of a moron he is. So bart just happened to be out looking for bigfoot on a thermal with the bfro and didnt think to tape it? or had malfunctions? I dont buy that for a second. Do you think fat face moneymaker would allow it to come out even if he did tape it? Hell no. It is well known matt wont allow certain good evidence to come out. His reason? greed and money.
But lets say bart is telling the truth here. So then the only thing we know for a fact is that he is best friends with a drug snorting bafoon who is an embarrasment to himself and others, and point B, he lied his butt off about the sierra killings. Jeff meldrum is on tape stating that this was the real deal and got extremely excited along with Miozinki. This is all documented and i assure you it will come out. Bart had no part in any of this and simply lied to kiss Meldrums butt. You may not think this is true but it will be revealed in time.
When Smeja's book comes out and you see the flesh sample your gonna laugh in the face of meldrum, and bart who seemed to agree with meldrum that it looked similar to a coyote. That statement is the most ignorant i have ever heard. It made me go from a fan of meldrums to thinking the man was stupid in a flash. Granted he is extremely smart and he is a master in his field of anthropology and he knows footprints, but he has proved that he has no buisness commenting on hair of any sorts. And the public will see that as well.
Bottom line, I dont think Bart is the best choice for the olympic project. It may be my own ignorance and bias but anyone who supports moneymaker and claims hes a great researcher has great knowledge, doesnt deserve to be anywhere near a respectable organization. The olympic project is shaping up to be a team of guys who actually know the outdoors and who are committed to a cause that doesnt revolve around money. And if you dont think Bart is getting paid by matt on some level, and ifyou dont think bart will be sharing his info with matt who will then claim it as his own, then your wrong. Fat faced moneymaker deserves to be where he belongs, in the circus.

    1. First of all what are you talking about,If people want to put information out, they do not need permission from MM to do so, MM is not the supreme ruler of the Sasquatch world, and secondly why does no one talk bad at "Bobo" he is also good friends with MM. I think is sad when people talk about a persons character with out realy knowing them, Why is Bart's sighting less relevent them other people that do not have proof either and said they say what they saw. I have more reason to belive some one that's out in the field, then a person that does not do this kind of thing. Plus I think your issue is with MM and not Bart. Also I think you just like to hear yourself talk, so please stop ranting so you can post something subjectively.

  3. To call it a "hominid" or to say it is a "relic human" is ridiculous. Just because it is covered in hair and lives in the wild dosn't make it a "relic human". It is a known fact that humans have the genetic capability to grow to 8 feet or more and even be covered with hair and be 100% homo sapien sapien. Besides, all the supposed ancient "hominids" were smaller in stature than the average homo sapien not much larger like the supposed "Squatch" is.

  8. The first long comment on this blog article was written by Mike "Squeaky" Greene. Mike is a former New Jersey bureaucrat, and a former meth addict, and former BFRO member. Since December many BFRO members wondered who was feeding the lies about MM to Lindsay and Smeja. It was Mike Greene all along.

Greene is a former meth amphetamine addict, and that's quite relevant to what's going on here. Those who have gotten to know Mike are familiar with the distinctive symptoms: flighty behavior, irrational outbursts, delusions of grandeur, combative attacks on people, etc. It even comes through in his writing.

Nowadays Mike Greene is banking on a book he is writing about the Sierra Kills incident -- another unfortunate thing he latched onto which won't pan out. Bart Cutino seems to be saying things about the case which are at odds with what Greene is going to write in his book. That's why Greene is trashing Bart now. Bart is undermining Greene's latest scheme -- another delusion of grandeur from an old guy seriously scarred by a meth addiction in the '80s.

Mike Greene had a beef with MM a few years ago when MM refused to let Greene use the BFRO site to swindle people into paying $2 for a single viewing of his "Squeaky" thermal clip. Greene was banking on a windfall from people repeatedly paying $2 to watch his unfocused thermal footage over and over. MM wouldn't allow it, because it was a ripoff scheme, pure and simple, even if the footage was legit.

A year later Greene wanted to be part of the Finding Bigfoot series. He was interviewed by a talent scout for Animal Planet but he was not chosen as one of the four leads. It was a huge disappointment for Greene, because he spent a lot of money for a facelift surgery in Costa Rica, in preparation for being in the TV series.

In December, without even knowing Greene's involvement with Smeja and the Sierra Kills story, MM cast doubt the story, and deflated the hype about it, and thereby sunk another one of Greene's fantasies. That set Greene on the war path and ramped up his smear campaign against MM.

A few weeks ago Mike Greene was ejected from the BFRO for trashing another BFRO member -- a bigfoot researcher in Wisconsin who is supported by Wally Hersom. Wally has been supporting that Wisconsin BFRO member and his wife for years now. Mike Greene wanted Wally's financial backing for himself, but he had already alienated himself from Wally ... because of his vicious hatred for the Wisconsin researcher.

Wally chose to support and defend the Wisconsin researcher when he had legal problems. That drove Greene batty, and set him on a mission to turn everyone against the Wisconsin researcher ... as if that would influence Wally's decision to support him.

Greene's latest campaign is to turn people against MM. Greene is doing that by propagating false rumors about him, though Greene has been cultivating those rumors for a while now, according to many BFRO people. That's why they are so certain he is the one feeding info to Robert Lindsay.

There's a multi-fold purpose for what Greene is trying to do. He hopes the rumors will cause MM problems with Animal Planet, and cause problems with members of the BFRO, and especially with any other prospective financial backers of the BFRO. Greene wants everyone to hear the false rumors he spreads, and to be scared off by them. If he can undermine support for the MM and the BFRO ... then some support might come his way. That's the hope anyway ...

And don't even get me started on the other non-bigfoot related nonsense on his blog. His reasoning skills are obviously nil owing to HIS drug use.

    3. Interesting stuff. Still wish we knew who YOU were, but alas, still interesting. John

      Delete
    4. I have never communicated with Mike Greene in my entire life. Frankly, I have no personal beef against MM whatsoever. He's obviously an overbearing blowhard, but that's not between him and me. Between him and me there are no conflicts whatsoever. I've never spoken to Matt in my life.

I do think he may have a problem that might affect his health so maybe the people who love him might want to know that about him. I do think Matt's relationship with Finding Bigfoot is secure. Obviously nothing I write will affect that relationship. If there are any issues in that relationship, they are being caused by Matt and Matt alone.

My feelings about Matt are mixed. His personality leaves a bit to be desired, but that's typical of the biz. I do believe he's done a lot of great things for the field, and he will probably continue to do so in the future.

The BFRO is a great resource, and if it were not for the BFRO, I would not even writing about BF today.

Props to Wally and Matt for supporting their friend in court.

As far as who gives me information? Not too many people!

      Delete
  9. As for the Wisconsin BFRO researcher supported by Wally ... a few years ago the guy's step-daughter made allegations against him regarding sexual abuse. The court would not appoint a public defender for the guy so he got convicted. Wally and MM believed the guy, and his wife, and their side of the story. Wally paid for the guy's legal defense after that, and it has not been cheap.

As Wally spent even more money in the direction of the Wisconsin researcher, Greene went almost insane with jealousy and hatred. To say he was "green with envy" would be a huge understatement. Greene is obsessively fixated on that Wisconsin researcher, trying to destroy him any way possible.
    (continued)

Recently Greene began telling people, among other things, that MM is "protecting a child molester" ... because MM (and Wally) still believed the guy is innocent and was railroad by a state court. It was yet another futile attempt to prevent money from being spent in the direction of the Wisconsin researcher ... money which might go toward Greene, or so Greene hopes.

Well guess what? I think Matt is a f*cking Bigfoot.

Conversely I would like to play Twister with that lanky fox, Renae. I'd be all, "Right foot green" and she'd be all, "I don't believe in Bigfoot!"

This is my last comment today. I'm really sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings or upset anybody. I love this blog and I love you. I'm a pretty good guy, but Bigfoot just p*sses me off.

  19. Anon in Texas

Good post Bart/Damian... It's too bad goobers get sidetracked so easily. Between all the "knowledgable" anonamous folks here and the rediculous "Roy" in Vegas, it's a wonder anybody cares to post anything.

At best, I think the DNA study may garner more professional attention to the subject and hopefully a little grant money to those dedicated to the cause, but nothing short of a stinky corpse will shut the die-hards up!

    Just my opinion, FWIW

  20. Thanks Derek and several others commenting----I've always believed that you lie in this field once and your credibility is done. Since day one, I've been very careful that if something is my subjective opinion (such as my belief, from time spent, that Smeja & driver are "likely" being honest about their alleged Sierra killing event) I state it as "my" subjective opinion. If something is speculation (such as ecological issues I feel may relate to this subject from my experience and or knowledge, beliefs etc..) I'll state it's "my" personal speculation/conjecture. But when I say something is a "definitive fact," such as what Meldrum did or did not clearly say at the recovery effort site for instance, you can take it to the bank and I stake my reputation as a researcher on it. Although it's not my property, I certainly hope everyone gets to see that video of the recovery effort eventually as I watched it the other night and was really neat to recollect that trip which is already 6 months old. Not that I have to justify my relationships to anybody on behalf of a cowardice "anonymous" person making slanderous & baseless drug claims about another researcher, but over the last 9 years there's hundreds of people involved in this research that've confided in me and have had to trust me (& vice versa) . I stand my record and many relationships that certainly wouldn't exist if I didn't "walk the walk."

  21. Wow, Shawn. Being, what?, eight hours ahead in the U.K., I can only presume a lot of these anonymous posters have had a "liquid breakfast". Ha ha. Tim, U.K.

  22. Bart,

While MM has previously claimed a close encounter with a supposed growling sasquatch in the dark, until recently he never claimed to have seen it or had a sighting, as he does now.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=IuNdL19ca9c

In this interview, first thing, MM is asked "Have you seen bigfoot yet?" to which he says "I have seen a bigfoot, yes, fairly close to me. It was several years ago... that actually happened in eastern Ohio in 1994... Berlin Wildlife Refuge..."

Why has MM not claimed to have seen a bigfoot before this recent addition to his story? Has it previously been a secret for some reason? Or is he now exaggerating his experience for public consumption and attempting to bolster his position? In other words, is MM now lying?

    http://www.network54.com/Forum/28799/message/1007426285/Deer+Kills+%26amp%3B+Bigfoot

Would you be kind enough to ask him to clarify please, and what are your thoughts on this matter?

    Thank you.

  23. Hey Bart, what do you think of this Roy character. He's quite the vile comedian, eh. Might catch his show next time I'm near the dusty plains of that decadent desert, the reviews are lousy though. Anyway, now that field researchers like yourself and Bindernagel have finally seen a Sasquatch with your own eyes, other than the whole awesomeness of that situation has it swung any new conception of what these beings are? Apparently as I understand it the good Dr. John's not in the ape camp anymore, wisely so I might add coming from my own feelings concluded after a sighting. What I read in Smeja's account, even he seems unsure it's dumb beasts he shot. So, primates of this Earth or otherworldly aliens? ;)

  25. I don't personally like Moneymaker much, but I will share some info regarding a question asked a couple posts ago. In September of 2000 while on an expedition Matt Moneymaker told me about his sighting in Ohio. He said it was pretty dark, but it was very close and he could see it plainly. His sighting story is not a new one.

  26. I'm trying to read between the lines and weed out the BS..so don young a long time bfro investigator was convicted of rape or child molestation and because of that your saying the bfro shouldn't back him as a Bigfoot researchers?

  27. great article again Damian. It's nice to read about other people in the Bigfooting community.
Bart sounds like an interesting guy with a lot of experience.

  28. Nope bart is a crony to the drug fiend known as moneymaker. If he wants respect he has to earn it, and all he has done so far is lie for meldrum and support a bafoon who couldnt find his way out of a corn patch, yet alone find a bigfoot. Moneymaker should be exposed for the hack he is, a fat faced piece of garbage druggy who found his calling by embarrassing the organizations that are legit.

  29. Bart is not lying. Some of you are reading too much into situations and conversations you were not there for. Someone can be quoted word for word and without tone and attitude its often taken out of context on purpose or by mistake it makes no difference.

Bart is as honest of a guy as I've ever meat. Maybe from time to time mm will take good advice from a great guy and make good decisions that will benefit the field in general.

That's a great way to look at it. Some of you have gotten so negative. Throughing blows will get us nowhere. I don't know about y'all but I get online to communicate with friends get new ideas and enjoy myself. If I need someone to yell at me or talk down to me I have a wife for that.

I'm going to crawl back into my hole.

    1. Well I guess y'all have Mr. Lindsay to thank for that. Will one of you guys just go ahead and take legal action against the guy? I for one would like to have a normal conversation on here every once in awhile. John

  31. Now that we all know who Lindsay's source is we finally know for sure how unreliable and inaccurate his information really is.

  32. The first anon person commenting who made slanderous drug comments and about Matt Moneymaker and is lying about Bart is not M Greene, R Lindsay etc. and has absolutely no association with the Oly project. It's an obsessive and mentally challenged ind. from West Virginia named Chris Sink.
Chris sink is/was a source for lindsay and his blog as he contacts bigfooters via email and fb to pose as a fan and get information for lindsay. this blog does a fantastic job with updating news and info but shouldn't allow slander & libelous comments from sick people like chris sink imo
