SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Do you believe Bigfoot exists?
If so or if not, a seminar taking place at Wofford College on Friday will state the case that it is a real possibility.
Renowned "bigfoot" researcher Dr. Jeff Meldrum of the Idaho State University will speak at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Wofford to students studying "urban legends" during the January Interim.
The program, to be held in the Olin Teaching Theater in the Franklin W. Olin Building, is free and open to the public.
Meldrum, a professor of anthropology at Idaho State, is a widely known expert on primate locomotion and also has become renowned for his scientific research into the phenomenon of "bigfoot," or "Sasquatch."
He has appeared in a number of documentaries for the Discovery Channel and has written several popular books on the topic, including his most well-known, "Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science."
Meldrum is unique because he is on the short list of credentialed scientists who feel it is worthwhile to conduct scientific research into the bigfoot phenomenon.
The Interim course "Urban Legends: (Mostly) True Stories Verified by a Friend of a Friend" is being taught by Jenny B. Johnson, assistant professor of accounting and finance and coordinator of the accounting program, and Ryan A. Johnson, assistant professor of accounting and finance.
The course explores contemporary legends, including how urban legends are more than rumor and innuendo – they reveal individual values, prejudices, hopes and fears.

Sounds like he has some more information to share with us. That was a pretty confindent "convinced" he used in his interview.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many people know of the timeline for the DNA study?
I wonder even if Finding bigfoot knows of the Timeline? I wonder if Animal Planet is waiting to show their most conclusive episode just before the release of the study so they can stake the claim to the discovery?
Anyways just some questions.
Great Post Shawn, nice to see a scientist from a reputable university putting his beliefs out there.
I don't Believe in the word, Believe.
ReplyDeleteI like Meldrum and respect the hell out of the fact that the man is willing to put himself out there as a professor and go in search of answers. He shows students and others that sometimes, if we want knowledge, we have to go find it and it's not always as easy as jumping on the Internet or driving to the library. Some professors are theorists and others are lab; he mixes both.
ReplyDeleteNotice how he chooses his words carefully ( much like a politician ), so as to not provoke and bring scorn from the academia. "I wouldn't say I believe" being the catch phrase.
ReplyDeleteI have got to believe he believes 100% for he has seen and heard as much as anybody, and his collection of purported bigfoot casted footprints is the largest in the world. He sees traits in these tracks that differentiate them from human tracks, but when you have a full professorship at a major state university on the line, you have to be careful.
I don't blame him and would probably do the same. This is my opinion. I always look forward to hearing what he has to say, and am most appreciative of the work he has accomplished in the Bigfoot study.
Chuck
The studio News caster forgets his name, calls him "that guy". I like him too, Although I Believe he's a bit MELoDRUMatic.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you get when you, Meld rum with atic?
ReplyDeleteI appreciate you putting the word "Renowned" in your headline to describe Dr. Meldrum. The only other time I ever hear that word is in the intro to Biscardi's podcast. And somehow, it always feels a little self-indulgent for a person to describe themselves so highly on their own show. Or it could just be me...
ReplyDeleteJeff now looks more like Grover did, doesn't he. Anyway, I don't think there'll be some big reveal at the end of Finding Bigfoot, for the mere fact that Matt wouldn't be running around calling it an animal like he does, as indeed Jeff safely does, if they already knew something spectacularly groundbreaking. And what Melba has, and what Scott has proven so far with speech, may point in another direction far closer to home. So no, no conclusion concluding Finding Bigfoot, but hopefully we'll know something big sometime later.
ReplyDeleteHe is an honest guy. But it just seems like he is lacking a set. He chooses his words like a politician he is always so afraid of being wrong. He is known for getting involved in something then as soon as it gets any attention he retracts his statements and tries to distance himself from it.
ReplyDeleteHe is honest you can't take that from him but quite honesty I am very sure he is a closet gay. A gay Mormon at that. I mean no joke I am confident of this.
to anonymous above me
ReplyDeleteI would have at least considered your comment until the last
paragraph!
Everyone jumps on the band wagon at some point. He's just got one ass cheek on it until something goes wrong with the DNA study then he will deny any claims that where made because he was politicicously (new word) vague. Then he will come back and say "if you read my book" I've been saying that they where apes all along. Yeah and just like a politician to word everything just right so they can jump to either side and save face when shit hits the fan for good or bad. While were on the political crap I still believe Clinton inhaled and had sexual relations. Lol
