First full investigation of Baby Bigfoot in New York by Steve Kulls

Two frame sequence showing the large unsub walking right to left with the small unsub making the leap to a branch, and begins its ascent.

Tonight's first episode of "Finding Bigfoot" season two will be featuring a Baby Bigfoot hanging from a tree limb. The video was filmed in 1997 and is known as the New York Baby footage. According to Finding Bigfoot investigators, an in-depth analysis of the 15-year-old video footage indicates a juvenile or baby sasquatch.

"You see a few people in the foreground, they are talking around a camp fire and it’s behind them that you see a large figure walking behind a tent and something hops off it’s shoulder and starts climbing up into the tree like an Ape," said Finding Bigfoot investigator, Cliff Barackman.

In 2003, Steve Kulls of Squatch Detective.com received a copy of the video from Doug Pridgen, the videographer. Kulls was the first to investigate this interesting piece of film. He sent us an emailing describing the process of his investigation:

I contacted the videographer, Doug Pridgen in 2003. He explained to me, his fiancée and hom were reviewing old vacation movies when his fiancée noticed something in the tree. My initial interview with him, lasted well over an hour ending with the procurement of the film on VHS.

About a week later I received the film in the mail, and began to watch the film. I was quite impressed that what I was looking at was definitely not human, nor a hoax. I also observed a larger subject in the film upon review, something that Doug and his fiancée did not observe. The next day I had the VHS tape transferred to DVD.

I spent the next week contacting zoos and labs to see if they had any animal escapes, even though that did not explain the much larger, ground based subject. All resulted in negative results.

So here's the facts about the film and the environment surrounding it.

  1. The park did not allow pets or privately owned animals in at all, because they were not insured in the event someone got harmed by an animal. (This was confirmed with the property owner at the time)
  2. It is illegal to own, or be in possession of a pet, monkey, chimp, orangutan, or gorilla in New York.
  3. Okay so you break the law and have a monkey and manage to sneak it in a part where animals are prohibited, would you just let it climb in a tree at dusk/dark unleashed, let alone take it camping with you? The common sense of this seems unlikely.
  4. Time factor, 5 years (the date of the event was confirmed with the previous property owner as well).
  5. Environmental factors: Surrounding area remote with straight shot to the Catskill mountains, property surrounded by acres of apple orchards, area also rich in blackberries, deer and varmints as well.
  6. Video analysis, clearly shows something climbing into the tree at the same time the larger subject crosses the particular threshold, climbs hand over hand into the tree, swings a few times between two trees to where it starts to swing down on one branch where it is clearly seen against the sky. (Usually the part of the film media likes to highlight. So the devil is really in the details.)

Just wanted to drop your readers some detail. I did a analysis on my site, which includes some enhancements of the video detailing some of the lesser observed actions in the film.

I hope this clarifies some of the questions for your readers and they are free to contact me via email if they have any further questions.

NY Baby Video Revisited by Steve Kulls

NY Baby Video Investigated by Finding Bigfoot

Comments

  1. I believe the chances of capturing a baby Bigfoot on film in that environment and time is highly unlikely.

This is very inconclusive and a whole lot of wishful thinking.

Now change that environment to the middle of nowhere without the ton's of people they might have something.

The fact it's even called "Baby Bigfoot" is an exaggeration of the evidence.

  2. I'm going to be a buzzkill, but seriously, look at the tree. I spent my entire childhood in trees like a freaking monkey, building tree forts, climbing, swinging from limbs, spying on folks. You cannot swing a creature which, let's take a wide guess, is about 80-180 pounds and swinging it from a limb and the entire tree stays completely stationary. It doesn't freaking happen. You swing from one limb, the whole tree moves.

  3. You know Sharon, that is because there is no way this critter weighs anywhere close to even 80 pounds. You brought up a great point. There is no way some of those branches could have supported much weight at all. As I have said before, it reminds me of one of those small monkeys you see sitting on someone's shoulder sometimes. Wish it was moe, but can't see it either.

  4. Hey Mike--making a guess based on the muscle mass that is reported for BF and for apes--they simply weight a lot more than a child that size--at least twice as much.

    ReplyDelete
  5. you dumb bitch, Sasquatch babies are reported to be the same size as human babies, so that doesnt mean this thing has to weigh 100lbs. Stop stating your ignorant assumptions and playing it off as fact.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Then if not a Bigfoot what is it? I have no problem with people saying it is not a Bigfoot, but take some responsibility for your opinion and offer an alternative. If it is a child then the parents need to be brought up on charges.

  7. I don't know what kind of monkey/ape it is, but it's definitely not human. I'm curious- what kind of tree is it? Because I have to disagree with Autumnforest. The entire tree is not going to move. If something that weighed that little could swing a huge tree such as shown in the video, there would be no trees. A single storm would take them all out. I have lived in CT all of my life and the trees up here can withstand a hell of a lot. Are you really saying that you climbed up a very tall, sturdy tree, swung from branch to branch, and made the entire tree sway?

  8. @Anonymous

Way to ad hominem, there, bud. If you don't like what she says, just call her a bitch and you've won the argument. Not.

On a macro level, I don't agree with AutumnForest on anything supposedly paranormal. There are no ghosts. There are no bigfoots. But I can present my evidence without calling her a dumb bitch.

As it turns out, I agree with her on this piece of "micro" evidence.

Since bigfoot's existence has not been established, the default position is that it must be something else, especially if the image is not clear. This is NOT evidence.

Outrageous claims require outrageous proof and this is far from it. So Occam's razor leads us to a few more likely suspects. I'm guessing it's someone's illegally-obtained pet primate.

I used to raise exotic birds legally, but because I did, I had an "in" with people who had other, less legal animals in their collections. In most cases it was a small animal that wouldn't catch the eye the way an escaped primate would.

But, dude, people keep monkeys illegally. Size makes me think this might be a lesser ape: a gibbon or a siamang. I knew a guy that had, in his youth, illegally kept a woolly monkey in his basement.

Which is more far-fetched: the escape of an illegal pet or the appearance of the infant form of an undocumented native primate?

Even if bigfoot DOES exist, we don't know what their babies look like. We don't know if they are arboreal or terrestrial. We don't know anything about the creatures.

The animal in that tree is NOT a baby bigfoot.

    Game. Set. Match.

  9. Some people take these comments way to seriously! You need to chill on calling people names. It ruins any intelligent argument you may have, while just making you look like an idiot.

As far as the video goes it simply appears a dude with a pet monkey just hanging out and the monkey jumps off him into the tree to play. These guys have made themselves look pretty bad on the show so far.

  10. Ok I give up! Seriously Matt Moneymaker just said "Squatting Squatches" can we please have a show without him, or ductape his mouth shut....please.........

  11. Yeah it's ridiculous to say that the whole tree would sway if a baby were to swing in that tree, and concluding a particular weight is also inconclusive, but I'd agree with those that say this ultimately looks like a small monkey that you see regularly. Is it probable? No. But it's also not probably that it's a bigfoot. It's one thing for Bigfoot to make a mistake to see, or to catch one hidden and watching something carefully, but would a bigfoot really just stroll over to a tree just a few yards away from a bunch of people camping and watching out so that their baby can have a casual swing in a tree? I mean, if Bigfoot were shy, they'd be even shyer about having their babies near humans, this video is very improbable either way. I think that it's more probably that it's a small monkey, but both ways, it's very improbable.

  12. I am 6'3 and I weigh 248lbs. I regularly climb into trees while hunting and I can stand on the beginning of tree limbs attached to the trunk that are no bigger in diameter than a broom stick.(As long as the tree is alive, it is almost elastic and hard to break.)

I do not move the whole tree, (but then again, I am cautiously tip-toeing) so to say that the subject in the video should be shaking the entire tree is completely inaccurate.

The size of the subject looks to be about 40-50lbs (rough guess.) No way this is human. I have never seen a baby bigfoot, but the movements definately resemble a ape in a zoo.

I would disagree with the assumption that someone has taken their pet chimp/baboon/ape/whatever into the woods for an evening stroll.

First, if the dark figure in the picture is a person, they know they are in possession of an illegal exotic animal and they would not be strolling through a meadow in the background. They would turn and immediately vacate the area at first sight of someone who might report them.

Second, if a person just lost their exotic pet, they would immediately notify the people around the campsite. Notify them to ensure they do not do something stupid like shoot the monkey from the tree.

Third, If a concerned exotic pet owner just lost their highly expensive, highly exotic pet and it is getting dark, they are not going to go hide in the bushes. They would be climbing up the tree to get their monkey after letting the people in camp know what they were doing.

I would imagine that a baby sasquatch looks, acts, similar to a baby ape. Baby humans have similar features and are roughly the same size as apes the first couple of years after birth. Who knows?

Funny thing is, if this video were shot in the zoo and a guy said, "yeah, I was filming a baby ape running from its daddy in order to play in a tree" everyone who says this is a hoax or that the video is of a child would never even remotely think to question the authenticity of the video.

One thing is for sure, this video is not of a human. Who knows what type of primate it is, but it ain't human.

  13. "Catskill Game Farm"

My guess it is a man with a trained monkey taking it out for exercise. He lets it up a tree when its time to leave he whistles and it comes.

I do believe the creature exists and in locations not far from the area. I just dont think a Sasquatch with a baby will go in any direction but the opposite of humans.

Also the fact it was 1997 and Ross having a monkey on the show Friends made it the fashionable pet. I think there was even concern because people were getting them then overwhelmed and just let them go.

  14. To those who are offended by Autumn being described using profanity by Josh Gates, in another spill over feud, where he claims someone denied him credit.

Classic Josh that people refuse to see. Oh no he could never says those things... ask Erin Ryder?

Look if that response offends you- as it should stop letting him think its ok by pretending that side of him does not exist.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Lol that was Josh Gates? You mean the guy from the scyfy show Destination Truth who put on all that weight? What beef does he have with Autumn?

Anyway who is to say that ape in the tree is not leashed we cant see that fine of detail. If a guy was walking his trained pet which is my belief maybe he didn't see the people camping. I'm sure if it was a Bigfoot and he saw those people he would make sure to take his baby and get out.

  16. One thing is for cetain - it is not human. It is some kind of primate without a tail, that is athletic and strong.

  17. There is no reason to believe that this is a "baby bigfoot." This is a pet monkey, most likely a gibbon. People do keep pet monkeys, including gibbons.

Do you really think that a bigfoot would walk very near to a bunch of noisy campers and let its baby go in a tree so near to humans? This would be entirely contrary to what is expected of bigfoot behavior.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It's a gibbon.

You are being hoaxed. This whole thing looks like a set up.

  19. Like others said, it could be a gibbon.

Look at this video of swinging gibbons: www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=ox0SGt0Ovz0

  20. It's a gibbon, not a baby bigfoot.

Watch the Youtube clip that someone posted just above this post. At 0:27 it sure looks like the "baby bigfoot" figure moving in the tree.
