Dr. Melba Ketchum Explains Her Bigfoot Sighting, Says It's Not a Big Deal [Bigfoot DNA]

About a week ago, Dr. Melba Ketchum, the woman who's spearheading the Bigfoot DNA project, mentioned something about a Bigfoot encounter she had in the past. It was written in a Facebook wall post in regards to the subject of "illusive vs. elusive".

Yes, I do know about them now. I am glad I didn’t see them until after most of the data was in. I needed to prove it scientifically to myself first as a former skeptic before hitting the field so to speak and actually observing them. I had no fear, the ones I encountered were peaceful and gentle. I keep going back, I know why so many people love doing this now.

Her comments on Facebook sparked the interests of people in the Bigfoot community. Many wondered what she meant when she said that she had observed a Bigfoot before. This was new to most people, and it struck a chord with some of her followers as this was one of the few times she publicly identified with them.

On Facebook today, Dr. Ketchum elaborated on this encounter with a Bigfoot:

The post that Arla put on my wall is true. I know her, but have not been to OK since 1995. My sighting is not a big deal. I saw one silhouetted between me and a white gooseneck trailer in bright moonlight at about 25 yds. It was about 10 feet tall as it walked by. I saw eyeshine from 1 nearby. I was alone at the time. I don't ever take cameras in case it scares them off. Not trying to prove anything here and do not care if I am believed or not. The DNA takes care of that for me. I should not have even brought it up. Any investigation on my part is purely to satisfy my curiousity (which got me into this in the first place), for my enjoyment and edification and no other reason.

  1. Hmm... Seems to me that it's okay to have had an experience and also work in the field of research. After all, had I not witnessed unexplainable things in my childhood home, I would not seek the answers I do today in the field of paranormal investigation. Sometimes, knowing something for yourself takes the pressure off of proving it because you already know. You can relax and maybe even keep your mind open enough to accept what you do find instead of intellectualizing it away.

    1. I agree, Autumnforest. However, the fishy thing about Ketchum is the (sadly) familiar confusion and what seems like subterfuge. Details change, test results are sketchy, everything is very secret, now she's seen them and (here's the clincher) she "keeps going back"? So...while nobody ealse on the planet can find them, she's got an open invite to drop in and hang with these guys? Just too much.

  2. I'm not saying I doubt Dr. Ketchum's experience, but she was able to get all that information about Bigfoot from a silhouette.
    Maybe I read it wrong.

  4. I don't get it either. She saw its eyes shining but just saw a silhouettte? I was hoping she was talking about going to Kentucky where the Erickson activity was happening. That's disappointing.

Did you not read the post in it's entirety (that means the whole article)?
Or did you just read my comment?
Go back and carefully read the words one at a time from the beginning.
    I'm not high,and I can spell.
A mind can be a terrible thing.I remember when trolls used to be funny. Now they're just boring and unimaginative.

  12. No offense Autumn but how did you know that Anon posters are men? Is that a bit of reverse sexism? Now dont ask me to wager the odds were in your favor! As a gender we do generally suck :)

  13. This doesnt add up. Earlier in the week Ketchum posted a comment on her wall stating that "I had no fear, the ones I encountered were peaceful and gentle. I keep going back, I know why so many people love doing this now." Now there are a few key words in that post; fear, peaceful, gentle and encountered. Those words suggest that she had an emotional experience that I dont think could be achieved by spotting a dark silhouette. Either she used poor word choice, or actually did had one or two daylight sightings whether it be at Arla's residence or not.

  14. @Anonymous above:
That was the point I was trying to make earlier.

I got the feeling from this post that Dr. Ketchum was expanding on her previous comment regarding this one interaction/sighting and not commenting about another sighting.

  15. Sasquatchery...

Recent disparaging comments regarding Dr. Melba and Miss Arla are unwarranted. I am well acquainted with both ladies, and have the utmost respect for their splendid efforts to recognize and protect the big folks.

  17. Dear Dr. Ketchum,
just prove what you set out to prove! The more you talk the less people care and question you. Talk is cheap and overvalued.

    Kindest Regards,

Oh and guys looks are cheap. With enough money you can make anyone hot, but brains are sexy. Find that combo and your a lucky dude.

  20. Unfortunately, I would guess that Ketchum weighs about half as much as a female Bigfoot right now. 280 pounds would not surprise me at all. How that happened, I have no idea. It's sad, really. Suffice to say she doesn't look like those pics anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah.. Looked at some more recent pics, she's sort of a blobsquatch now.

  22. I don't like the negative comments either regarding Ketchum- but I also see plenty of comments about portly Matt Moneymaker and Fasano's taxi cab driver physique among the threads. So at least the abuse is dished out equally it seems...

  27. The comments are funny, showing the stress of no news. The most interesting comment by Melba, as she says "it's no big deal" her seeing a Sasquatch. That is funny.

  28. I lost all my hope in this project now.I think she lie about encounter and she lie about bigfoot DNA.I mean common, every1 who done some research on bigfoot know that chance to see them in day light is almost 0.I think she just want to hawe her own 5 minutes of fame.

    ReplyDelete
  29. My take on her comment about bigfoot being "peaceful and gentle." If I encounter a large wild creature almost ten feet tall, covered in hair with glowing eyes that doesn't immediately charge me...I'd say they are peaceful too.

It sound like there were two of the creatures watching her. She could easily make out the outline of one by the moon light, and the other had eye shine.

Apparently the creatures simply observed her and did nothing more. That apparently led her to conclude that they were peaceful. Remember, she was alone and an easy target(or prey)had they chosen to attack.

Walk upon two giant grizzly bears in the wild. They will usually run away; or charge you. Her description of the encounter explains her bases for calling the creatures peaceful and gentle.

  30. The cryptic post on Facebook tells us a sighting is, "no big deal?"

It is a big deal, a sighting by the premier geneticist, don't you think?

Such a casual remark is troubling at this stage, in an apparent lock down of information while her paper is under consideration? Why bother mentioning, or clarifying a mention and apology?

Now, it seems a full report is due, or submit it for investigation with Finding Bigfoot, or even the BFRO database?!

Oh wait, I bet we see more of this, on Sasquatch the Quest?

    To be continued....

  31. Dr. Ketchum is full of it. She just keeps her name out their with all of this BS on DNA, hoping someone will bring in the cash for her.

    P.S. Your hot too Autumm!

    ReplyDelete
  32. So forget her looks, lets go for the science......so, a DVM who concentrates on horse and dog DNA and owns one of the most expensive testing centers in america had her own encounter, and while she's waiting for her DNA evidence to "prove" bigfoot, she happens to share an personal sighting....in OKLAHOMa of all places? Geez people, this is going nowhere, would love to be wrong but there IS NO BIGFOOT only suckers and money! ask Monkeymaker, Smeja or Biscardi or Paulides or Erickson, Bob Gimlin too! Whats sad is her talents and credentials are shot now...she must be independently wealthy to keep this BS up!

  33. Well I think Dr Ketchum has seen a bigfoot in or around oklahoma. She was know to follow me around!

  34. What exactly is Fatt Moneymaker's physique anyway?

  35. Hey Autumn,

If it makes you feel any better, I think you are hot too....seriously

  36. Why don't you guys take this subject seriously, if you don't - by you I mean this site - how can you expect outsiders looking in to? The Sasquatch subject is, and should be, serious like a heart attack. Yet we see all these silly comments about Dr. Ketchum. I have no reason not to think she's on to something, so why not cool it with the glib tongue, boys. As for Dr. Ketchum herself, I suggest she talks only of the research at this point, or not talk about it. Once the study is finished by all and proof presented she can talk all she wants about the species, and possible encounters.

  39. i believe its true that bigfoot or sasquatch is somewhere out there they are mostly hiding to humans. Its funny that people make fun of other people when they are telling about their experience encountering Bigfoot or sasquatch. long time ago in africa they never thought that there is a Gorilla living in the forest until they find them in the deep deep forest of africa. Bigfoots they stay away from human people ask why they dont find any carcass or Bigfoot remains same thing if you think about the bears they dont always go out and they hide they will go out only when they are hungry or looking for foods but then if you think about it why they dont always find a carcass or bone remained of the bears most of them they died in the deep forest My question to all of you did you ever see a carcass of a big foot or bear remained as i said before they are always living in the forest and they died in the deep forest. Funny things about we humans we believe when someone told us not true story People believe it but then if someone is telling the truth people dont believe it reminds me about the story about the boy who cried wolf
