Cliff Barackman Writes About Todd Standing In Canada Field Notes

Todd Standing and Cliff Barackman

Last night's episode featuring Todd Standing was just a blip of what actually happened, according to Cliff Barackman's Canada field notes. Apparently, the investigation was a little more extensive than what was shown on TV. On the show, Todd only showed one of his Bigfoot videos, but there were 4 videos that didn't make the cut. "Questioning Todd, I soon learned that at this time he had five videos that had bigfoots in them," wrote Barackman.

"The first video is apparently only a sound recording with no images of sasquatches (I didn't get to hear the recording). We investigated video number two, with the creature quickly bending over out of sight while above Todd on a hill. His third video shows what is either a bigfoot or a man in suit running on a hillside. This creature is the same brownish orange color as the creature in video number two. Video number four is a close up of what appears to me to be a bigfoot puppet behind some branches. Its dark eyes stare unblinking off to frame right, and there is very little movement visible. The skin appears very much like felt, and its fur lacks the flow pattern that one would expect from a living creature. Video number five is a similar shot, but with a much more convincing bigfoot head. It slightly resembles Patty from the Patterson/Gimlin film, but with a rounder face and more dog-like nose. Over the last month or so, there seems to have been another still released showing this same head, but possibly from another film."

Here's the full Todd Standing snippet from Cliff Barackman's Canada field notes:

We came to the area to investigate a video obtained by Todd Standing. I heard about Todd several years ago as a man who had supposedly obtained several pieces of footage of sasquatches at a secret spot that he called “Sylvanic.” He then put the clips together into some sort of film and was showing it in small movie theaters around Canada. Not long after, his name popped up again as a man who was lobbying the Canadian parliament for official protection of sasquatches.

Having never really taken the time to look closely at Todd's videos, I was pleased to be going to meet him. I find that so much more information comes out when speaking to the actual videographer, and it was an opportunity to come to an informed opinion on Todd's work for myself .

We met Todd on a rainy day in an empty campground where several bigfoot encounters had happended over the previous several years. He refused to take a jacket or use any rain gear, claiming it was not cold. He was soon shivering in a wet, cotton shirt, maintaining his position that it was a nice day.

Todd is a very polite and well-spoken man. I genuinely liked the guy, as well as his message regarding sasquatches: protect them, and let them be. He has taken great strides to increase the public's awareness of bigfoots through his actions. While these actions are labeled as self-serving by his critics, the fact that attention was brought to sasquatches is undeniable.

Todd currently lives in Calgary, but he lived several hundred miles away when he obtained his videos at Sylvanic. He told us that he could not take us to the actual spot because it is a three-day hike back to this secluded valley, and the last day would be spent belly crawling up a river bed in a specially designed gillie suit made by Todd himself. He went on to say that nobody wants to be back there because of the problem grizzly bears that inhabit that area. He claimed that the rangers say there is a 10% chance of being killed by a bear while in the area, and it was too dangerous to go. It seemed to me that a bunch of hurdles were put in the way of anyone wanting to see the location for themselves. Todd did offer to take anyone there who wanted to go at a later time, but it would take a week or two for the trek.

Questioning Todd, I soon learned that at this time he had five videos that had bigfoots in them. The first video is apparently only a sound recording with no images of sasquatches (I didn't get to hear the recording). Over the last month or so, there seems to have been another still released showing this same head, but possibly from another film.

I asked Todd what was up with video number four, the one that looked like a Muppet head. He said that he does not know why it looked so bad. He suggested that the lighting might have made it appear that way.

We were to be investigating his second video, the one with a brief glimpse of a creature bending down facing away from the camera. The video is very brief, but it seemed that it showed something bipedal and hairy. An arm and even possible buttox muscles can be seen, or are at least suggested. We were to rely solely on Todd's measurements since we were unable to go to the actual film site. This would be problematic for our reconstruction, as going to the actual film site is very important for a sense of scale. Trusting someone's measurements when you're trying to find out if their film was hoaxed makes little sense anyways, but it's all we had to go on.

Todd claimed to have not even believed in bigfoots at the time he obtained his second video. It was his film flip that convinced him they were real. This was very peculiar to me because he claimed to have made approximately a dozen trips to the location trying to film a bigfoot by the time he got his video. He chose Sylvanic as likely bigfoot habitat, and he even developed an intricate theory of sasquatch social/family structure, all before he believed in bigfoots. I personally don't believe that griffons exist, and I don't plan expeditions based on how they would live (if they were real) to see if I'm wrong...

Questioning Todd further, we found that he was unaware of the elevation of the Sylvanic location. He said that he never paid attention. This, if true, would be a very dangerous thing to ignore, as we would soon find out during that night's investigation (it snowed on us in August). How could Todd have chosen a location, planned his hikes in (most likely using topographic maps), visited a dozen times, and not noticed the elevation? This seems very unlikely.

When investigating a film, I sometimes think of the late Rene Dahinden and his comments on the Patterson/Gimlin Film. He said that what you need to know is in the film. Certainly, Rene would think that the context of a film is very important, too, but I like to examine films starting with what is actually seen. Good films stand on their own, and their context only serves to reinforce or put in doubt a clip's authenticity.

With so little to go on for video number two, I am left with not knowing what is in it. The film looks like either a bigfoot or a guy in a suit bending over. Since there is very little information to be gleaned from the actual video, I have to rely on the context. Todd was unable or unwilling to go to the actual spot, there were inconsistencies in his story surrounding the clip, and there's that Muppet face staring, unblinking in film number four... These leave me with serious doubts about what is shown in any of his videos.

Expressing my concerns to Todd, he correctly stated that video will never be enough for proof. How true. Todd goes on to say that only a body will ever suffice. As much as I hope this isn't the case, it could very well be the grizzly truth at the end of the bigfoot mystery.

  2. I know the team (especially Matt) sure hammered him at Salt Fork. Safe to say (in my opinion), Todds' been bunked. I mean come on, he didn't even know the elevation????

  3. todd's whole gig is that any money
he accrues will be given to animal shelters,so he feels that he is lying for a worthy cause,so he has no guilt
    about doing so.

  4. Todd's condition? "Gigantomania" He apparently has a bit of an obsession about BF and has created a social structure and imaginary visits with him like one of those creepy stalkers that won't leave a woman alone and makes up all kinds of scenarios in his head. Be afraid, BF. Be very afraid.

    1. I think he is close to saying he is going to live in the woods with the Squatches and he is going to somehow go the way of that guy who thought he could live with Grizzly Bears in Alaska.

  5. The best Todd I know is Rundgren, he's even God himself. Musically, anyway. Standing seems like a guy with his heart in the right place, that he truly cares about this species, if not then he's the biggest most extreme cynic ever. I sincerely hope it's the former.

  6. Yeah, I agree with Cliff. The newer head shots look pretty good, like they could be a real creature. The older ones do look quite bizarre and phony. Why would the two bigfoots look completely different? I know the theories of there being different bigfoot types, but it's hard to beleive they would both live in the same valley. Is it supposed to be a juvenille? I do hope that some of Standing's evidence is legit, but a guy can only suspend his disbeleif for so long. He does seem to have some redeaming qualities and he is a fellow Canadian, so I want to beleive him, but right now I'm afraid it doesn't look good for the Toddster.

  7. Broski--you kill me. Yeah, he's going to go pet a nice Sasquatch and get ripped apart in front of his own camera. Yeah, I see that happening, especially if the squatch he approaches, he assumes is one of his team members in a costume.

  8. Okay, I got the inside scoop people, because me and Todd are bffs on facebook lol. He refutes FB's claims that he refused to take them to Sylvanic. Instead, he says they refused to go because they don't travel more than 500 yards from a road. Looks like your classic case of he said he said, too bad for Todd though, more people will beleive Cliff. Anyways, it's all pretty damn funny.

  9. So, will Finding Bigfoot ever talk to Biscardi?

  10. I feel that the video featured on the episode depicts a computer generated creature. The highlights on the fur do not change when the animal moves at all.

  11. Thanks to Shawn I was able to watch the episode.
Todd uses the excuse of Grizzly bears for not taking the crew to his sighting location.
Judging by the sign I saw, they went to Kananaskis to recreate Todd's video.I'm very familiar with Kananaskis because the general area is where I research.
There are Grizzlys,Cougars,Coyotes and Wolves there. Therefore,Todd made a lame excuse for not taking them to his site.
The area also has Deer,Moose and Elk as well as Hares,Squirrels and other small animals.
Three days of hiking and the guy doesn't know his altitude?Give me a break.
I think Todd was making things up as he went along.
How can he take such great hi res pictures of "Bigfoots" and get such poor quality video?
I know Alberta very well and I also think the Rockies are "squathcy"....I hate that word.

I have to call bullsh** on Mr. Standing just because of his oh-no-there's-bears lame ass reasoning.
The whole area is FULL of bears, and cougars and coyotes and wolves. That's why I am always so careful when I go out alone.
Todd can throw all the crap he wants at Finding Bigfoot if it makes himself feel better.
Based on what I know of the land here, the crew made the correct call on Mr. Standing and saw right through his BS.

  12. SN; Perhaps Sylvanic exists in another dimension... Where the bears are much larger, faster, and have an insatiable hunger for human flesh. Also, it would explain why his altimeter wouldn't work.Lol.

  13. Todd is full of crap. He says on his website that Video 2 was no accident but on another site he ways the footage was accidentaly taken when moving the camera from one location to another. Which was it Todd?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think Todd is looking to cash in on bigfoot, and to him it doesn't matter if it's a hoax or not.
But, I also believe that you all give Cliff and the show Finding Bigfoot a little too much authority on the subject, and for that matter, the bfro.
The only evidence the bfro has, are evidence given to them.
I haven't seen anything that shows me, that the bfro knows what they are doing.
Just like Biscardi, they hear a story with a location, and they jump in for a week, then poof, they're gone.
That's not how you do any wildlife research.
And to be honest, if you have no evidence of you being out in the field? You're comment doesn't have any backing.
Anybody but anybody can be an armchair researcher.

Sasquianation, I know your comments value. You go out and look for evidence.
The rest is a waste of cyberspace.

  15. Actually his other name is Todd Rockwell and his company is OutStanding Productions, a video production company in Edmonton with a good sized client list.

  16. Why would Todd put so much effort in something that he knew was a hoax? If in fact his facial pictures were falsified he would have to find the best costume designer in the world and then attempt to make the costume features move. he doesn't make any money by his efforts and to assume that his primary motivation is publicity is ridiculous. To work as hard as he does for this many years for something he knows is false simply doesn't stand up to reason. I suspect the primary motivation of his critics has something to do with the fact that he has the best pictures of Sasquatch on the Web, and he has accomplished in a few years what other have spent a life time doing without nearly as much success.

    1. I agree with muskyhunter. so im 60 and i hunt ducks and bust my tail humping it just to get to the blind. it's a lot of dog gone work when you don't hunt private. Todd's much younger and what he's physically doing out there is intense. I believe those faces are real. He needs to put out night vision trail cams. Or why not a few friends in tree stands with night vision equip. near the apples? If any of those videos were a hoax then oh well, more disappointment but I believe this guy is gonna come face to face with bigfoot. Perhaps when they are growling he needs to shut up and be quiet. they know where he is. after his few whistles and the growling, maybe bigfoot is telling him to be quiet. If he remains quiet then one night one bf is gonna walk out and show himself and look directly at todd. Maybe even then a few more will walk out. It will be an encounter we've been waiting for.

  17. Musky, if you knew anything about his early claims since 2004, you'd understand a bit more about his imaginative mind. Do you know how many people he claimed to have died in his hidden land of Sylvanic? Is there one police report to back it up? Did ya happen to see his first video of his then little sister (late teens?) who joined the treacherous 3 day expedition to get to Sylvanic? Footage that now only omits his sister, the real "Woman" team member. He no doubt is a very creative individual, creative enough to own a sizable video production company with a large client list. His Sister is a makeup artist now and part of the company. There's a lot you don't know about the guy Musky. Think about some of the reasons why circus and show promoters come up with strange monsters as a draw. Why would an ambitious video production company claim to have video of the most elusive creature on earth? Why did the Georgia boys phony up their bigfoot? Publicity.

  19. Caught todd radio show,Bigfoot North. I believe him, especially since he has the blessing of Jeff Meldrum and Les Stroud.
As for the above criticisms, I think the phrase " If you torture the information enough, you can make it say anything you want" just about covers it. Keep up the good work Todd Standing. I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth of the hater s from here in South Dakota.

  20. I watched Todd's doc on netflicks. From reading most every opinion here I'm more skeptical than i was when watching it. Cliff B, ok, so he made some good points. One photo which I saw before with the light colored face may have been a younger female. INOP.

I like Todd's approach in the timber better than any BFRO could produce. When Todd dresses up in his gilly suit and moves fast and takes the same routes like he explained, i can sense that Bigfoots are attracted to him however they are creatures of their own origin and will remain hidden. With all the activity, why didn't todd put trail cams out? This is what really pisses me off about researchers. If so much activity is going on how about a night vision trail cam. yes, costs money for a bunch of them.

About him moving around, I'll say if anyone finds or gets bc on video or a close up it will be todd. or someone with his approach. I was totally into his program and my eyes were fixed to the screen. I live only 4 miles under the b.c. border and I've never seen such awesome wilderness in my life as I did tonight watching his program. Unbelievably rugged. I lived in Alaska for 6 yrs and of course Alberta, and B.C. is just as rugged. Really makes me want to get out there....but never alone!!

I tend to believe a man who actually goes out in the bush with a ghillie vs some fat dumbo and his corny lesbian manhater and mr. know everything fatboy cliff. these bfro cartoonies wouldn't know a real fact about this creature whether it is part human or a hybrid species from a saltine cracker and pilot bread! hell most people believe Hillary and bill Clinton are saints lmfao
