Bigfootology Live Blog of Animal Planet: Finding Bigfoot Swamp Ape Episode, and Methane
Once again Bigfootology was live blogging the entire Finding Bigfoot show. They did a great job. One problem they had with the Swamp Ape episode was about the Skunk-Ape's foul odor. Animal Planet posed the question of how the Skunk Ape gets its foul odor and their answer was simple: Methane.
The problem with the Methane answer is that Methane is an odorless gas.
Naturally, one would follow up with the question: If farts are mainly methane, and methane is odorless, what causes the smell?
Answer: It's actually a myth that farts are mainly composed of methane. The majority of farts are mostly composed of carbon dioxide and swallowed air, with little or no methane present. The smell of malodorous farts is due to bacteria in the gut producing sulphur containing compounds (mainly) which do smell - particularly that eggy smell!
Update:
Bigfootology
Monemaker is correct, as we continue to build into Bigfoot habitat the interactions will increase.
Bigfootology
John Andews and Dennis Kujath have great stories about metal poles being bent up in the North Cascades found by parks department people.
Bigfootology
The opposable thumb being required to bend a metal rod is a stretch.
Bigfootology
Agreed about the feeder glass and gasket. Deliberate manipulations.
Bigfootology
Looks like the mid-torsel bend in the cast. Good.
Bigfootology
Love the hand-print. Awesome!
Bigfootology
So far it looks promising with the Florida family. Better than the hoaxed Georgia dash-cam footage.
Bigfootology
The smear does not work. The original print has clear segmented fingers.
Bigfootology
Lone, non-technology squatching is common for the braver researchers.
Bigfootology
So far the calls have been impressive: Matt, Cliff, and Bobo do great calls.
Bigfootology
I have said for a very long time that I believe that calls are for certain things like location, similar to coyote calls. However, I have been experimenting with tonality and understanding that calls to use and what calls to not use which comes out of my knowledge of communication styles at the psychological and interpersonal level. This is why I tell people to consider the tones they use in their calls. Is it an inviting tone that is being used or an aggressive tone? How do we know we are not call blasting a Bigfoot saying, "Don't go over there. There are humans over there." We must consider tones which seem to communicate friendly and welcoming intent.

It is good to see them go into the Seminoles. Ronnie Roseman made his film there with the help of the Seminole tribe. So that is not new to have them work with researchers.

Skunk-Ape's foul odor? They are going to put opinion forth as fact? Methane? They hide in the under ground Alligator dens that are filled with methane? What? Then why do the have a smell odor in places where there are no alligators? Okay, I am officially putting our a silliness alert on that one. What do they have to back up that information? How about they have fur and they are not actively bathing so body odor and possible clinging defication as the reasons why they smell?
Bigfootology
Yes, they do have a very wide omnivorous diet. They are an opportunistic eater. They know what is ripe, where, and where they can find their protiens, as well they take advantage of food left by humans.

Unmanned arial drone, Marcel and I have been talking about doing that and using real man-made aircraft or using balloons. But drones do make noise, Bobo. Regardless, I think it is a great idea and worthy of testing.
Bigfootology
Okay, the thermal hit ran into the woods. Why did they not show that part of the footage? Are you kidding me? I thought it was a cow perhaps. But I was giving Matt the "balls" award for walking towards it, but with the footage cut out it leads me to believe that it turns out to be nothing. The thermal image running into the woods would have told us if it was bipedal or quadrapedal and put that to rest. Why did they leave the footage out?
Overall a much better show than the first week's show. Good job to the entire gang: Matt, Bobo, and Cliff for a job well done.
Charlie
It was a cow or horse. At one point as it turns you can see the head and neck. They left the footage out because it wasn't a biped.
Bigfootology
Charlie, I came up with the same conclusion. You can see the head turn and when Matt comes closer he gives a sound of familiarity, like he was suprised to be able to identify it as something common. Then they immediately cut to the solitary thermal footage and only talk about it running into the woods. That is suspicious that it was not what they wanted it to be. Besides, actual Sasquatch behavior would not have stood out there in the open, even under cover of darkness, while Matt approached. It would have stepped away instantly. The fact that it just stood there as Matt approached told me it was probably just a cow.
Oh, Darn I was hoping someone else would have commented about this program. I think this is hilarious. I love how the night vision camera captures everything except for when they spot what they think is a Bigfoot!! Also how do these guys know all these facts about this fictional creature?! My grandkids love watching this show and me and my hubby get a good laugh at how serious these guys are. I'm guessing they get paid enough to tramp through the woods all over this country. Not a bad gig if you stop and think about it!
ReplyDeleteI find it humours when these individuals try to explain the every day habits or hunting techniques when none of them have ever viewed an actual BigFoot. The best is when one if them claim to have hunted BigFoot for 25 years. After never finding any solid evidence that these creatures roam the wilderness. I would keep that stat to myself.
