Jurassic Park in Florida Swamps

Tim Fasano discovers an old logging camp deep in the Florida swamps.

“Give up hope all ye who enter here.” says the sign entering this stretch of the Hillsborough River known as "17 Runs." It is remote and seen by very few humans. When this area was logged a century ago, This area was left untouched. It was too Jurassic in nature. To this day (if you make it back there) you will see giant Tidewater cypress trees half a millennium old, giant ferns lining the bank, and plenty of other beautiful plants, as well as giant bull gators and wildlife that you wouldn’t otherwise see on the more traveled sections of the river.

I tried to make it on foot along the bank....major fail. The conditions were beyond bad.

Kevin and I will try in November, perhaps by canoe. People have gone into the runs and have never been seen from again. I kid you not. But to see this prehistoric looking area is more than worth the risk.
