Are These Sighting Numbers for 2014 Correct?

CityLab.com released an article covering the number of sightings per state for the year of 2014. Washington and Pennsylvania tied for first place with 4 a piece, but other "hotbed" states such as California and Oregon had 0?

But with at least four total sightings in 2014, Washington tied with Pennsylvania as the year's leading state in Bigfoot sightings, according to CityLab's count of BFRO reports.

The Pacific Northwest has historically led the nation in cryptozoology, but the number in Pennsylvania marks a recent rise in Bigfoot (aka Sasquatch, Yeti, or Skookum) reports throughout the Ohio River Valley, central Florida, the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the Mississippi River Valley. Overall sightings are on the decline, however, especially compared to 2000-2009, when spottings spiked. Cartographer Joshua Stevens' remarkable 2013 map traces the century in Sasquatch, with a helpful inset that compares densities of population and sightings (the two are not always directly correlated):

  8. Well actually if you remove all of the fake reports, misidentifications, etc, then these numbers might not be that far off as far as legit sightings of something unknown that actually gets reported.

  9. I think the Blimp will save the day! I mean, who can resist not looking up at a Blimp? I was at a Fair/Carnival in Tijuana in September and *everybody* looked up and said WTF (in Spanish) when a large dirigible flew over ... granted, for some odd reason it was only about 50 feet off the ground at the time ... I guess the pilot really wanted to make an impression.
