Discovery Channel Head Deep Into Siberia In Search of Russian Yeti on Sunday, June 1
American explorer Mike Libecki Investigates Mysterious Deaths of Nine Students and Uncovers Something Truly Horrifying
(Los Angeles, Calif.) – On February 2, 1959, nine college students hiked up the icy slopes of the Ural Mountains in the heart of Russia but never made it out alive. Investigators have never been able to give a definitive answer behind who – or what – caused the bizarre crime scene. Fifty-five years later, American explorer Mike Libecki reinvestigates the mystery – known as The Dyatlov Pass incident – but what he uncovers is truly horrifying.
RUSSIAN YETI: THE KILLER LIVES, a 2-hour special airing Sunday, June 1 at 9 PM ET/PT on the Discovery Channel, follows Mike as he traces the clues and gathers compelling evidence that suggests the students’ deaths could be the work of a creature thought only to exist in folklore.
Based on diary accounts, forensic evidence and files that have just recently been released, Mike pieces together the graphic stories in search of what really happened that evening. According to the investigators at the time, the demise of the group was due to a "compelling natural force." The students’ slashed tent was discovered first with most of their clothing and equipment still inside. Next, the students’ bodies were found scattered across the campsite in three distinct groups, some partially naked and with strange injuries including crushed ribs, a fractured skull, and one hiker mutilated with her eyes gouged out and tongue removed.
The mysterious scene left more questions than answers. Why was the tent slashed from the inside? Why would the victims leave their clothing behind in subzero weather? Could it have been a government top secret weapon that killed them? Or an indigenous local tribe that lashed out for trespassing on their land? But perhaps most strange of all, why did the Soviet government suppress the autopsy and other reports for 30 years?
Mike first heard about the Dyatlov Pass incident on a climbing expedition in 2011 and since then has become obsessed with the case. “I’ve spent a lot of time alone in the mountains and have had my share of near-death experiences,” he said. “I know if I went missing, I’d want my family to know what happened to me.”
Determined to find answers, Mike hires Russian translator Maria Klenokova to join him. Together, they set out to one of the most remote and inhospitable places on Earth. However, nothing prepared them for what they were about to discover. Following the trail of evidence, Mike finds proof that the hikers were not alone – a photograph, taken by one of the hikers a day before they died that suggests that they encountered a Yeti. But just how far will they go to find the answers?
Looking forward to this!!

To me that one photo may say all we need to know about the missing hikers case. But there has been a lot of explanations to this mystery. But of all those unexplained files and strange but true T.V. programs never mentioned the possibility of the yeti though.
ReplyDeleteI recently delved into the Dyatlov incident and found a good book called "Dead mountain: The Untold True Story of the Dyatlov Pass Incident".
ReplyDeleteTurns out the most likely explanation is infra-sound from strong winds over the mountain dome, causing disorientation and panic among the hikers.
The rumored radioactivity found was later found to be no higher than normal.
A yeti? Probably not.
Please don't be offended but hearing that explanation makes me laugh because it sounds even more ridiculous than any reason I have heard yet. Sorry but it just sounds like grasping.
DeleteI too am looking forward to this. Nothing like a great mystery that might involve the bizarre. I have read that someone in the group penciled in a note that read something like we now know the snowmen really exist. I have also read this was disputed. Should be quite interesting seeing what Mike Libecki finds and I hope the title is more than just a leader.
ReplyDeleteChuck
Wolverine Sasquatch would make the yeti their biotch
DeleteMichigan Big Squatch Country
DeleteKGBsquatch they knew to much and had to be dealt with : (
ReplyDeleteThere are other supernatural bipedal creatures out there other than the Bigfoot/Yowie/Yeti. For instance, the Reptilian would be the most likely culprit for a mass murder of this type. The Yeti was probably there to warn them away due to the Reptilians presence. Reptilians tend to have feet that are that of a reptile, not of a Bigfoot, and sharp claws. A slashed tent requires claws. Was this the massacre where some of the victims were not found until 25 feet of snow melted as they had been buried that deep due to some games played by interdimensional predators?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be a bit cold for reptiles . They are cold blooded after all .
DeleteThey just look like reptiles because they are shapeshifters like Bigfoot/Yowie/Yeti. They are most likely warm blooded. I don't think that cold blooded animals can get very large.
DeleteKBGsquatch with meat hooks gits da JOB DONE
ReplyDeleteI have heard about this "snowmen" note before. It's interesting. Truthfully, it kind of seems more like an avalanche. The tent was cut from the inside, and then they rushed out. It happened suddenly, and they went out in these horrific temperatures unprepared. They were very experienced hikers and had a heating device in the tent. This was a really big tent. Pics of it look crushed in, and I would think ribs could be crushed by a sudden avalanche, and then they had to dig their way out or suffocate. There was evidence of a couple of them trying to make a fire under a tree or something as well. Eyes and tongue being gone could have been the result of predators or decomposition, or both. They weren't found for quite awhile after all. The yeti sounds like an exciting idea, but maybe it's something a little more ordinary. Not sure there is any way to authenticate the 'snowmen' note. It's odd that the govt. seemed to create a secrecy around it, but then again it was the Soviet government at the time. Whatever the case, it's a great mystery.
ReplyDeleteUFOs or GRAYs they been takin folks and doing tests here for years.....
DeleteAnyone know what photo that "yeti" is taken from? I know it's supposed to be a close-up from one of the hiker's recovered photos, but I've never been able to find the original photo. It would do a lot to put that supposed creature into context.
