Bigfoot Bounty Judges Make Statement on Rick Dyer Hoax

The $10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty airs this Friday on SpikeTV. When asked about Rick Dyer's latest claim, Dr. Todd Disotell and Natalia Reagan, the judges on the show had this to say about Dyer's fake Bigfoot body:

"The second profit pops into science, science goes squiggly," concluded Disotell. "It's strange that he chose to have it taxidermied rather than have better-preserved live samples sent for testing," said Natalia Reagan, a primatologist who co-judges "Bounty" with Disotell and actor Dean Cain.

Their statements were published on Tuesday via Yahoo News. You can read the full article here: tv.yahoo.com

    1. "Simply denying mainstream science based on flimsy, invalid and too-often agenda-driven critiques of science is not skepticism at all. It is contrarianism ... or denial," Mann told LiveScience.

Instead, true skeptics are open to scientific evidence and are willing to evenly assess it.

"All scientists should be skeptics. True skepticism is, as [Carl] Sagan described it, the 'self-correcting machinery' of science," Mann said.

... 7:25... I think you need to understand how proper skepticism works before suggesting anyone else is wrong.

    2. If you are a true skeptic you know bigfoot dont exist. Period.

    3. If you're a true skeptic, you'd look at the evidence impartially and not deny it's there.

  15. There is no scientific evidence for Bigfoot. Before you respond Joe, bear in mind that scientific evidence has to be falsifiable and repeatable. So anecdotes and footprints need not apply.

    2. Wildlife biology is a science and tracks are apart of that... That's just one example.

I shouldn't have to point that out to you Don, oh dear?

    3. Footprints and hair do apply.

    4. Hee-hee. Don said 'bear' in mind.

  16. Joe, can you please list for us all of the animals that have been classified on their track evidence alone?

Track evidence for Bigfoot is especially problematic since so much of it has been proven to be fabricated.

But it still remains that tracks are not repeatable or falsifiable and therefore cannot be considered as proof of existence of anything.

  17. Anna Nikaris has been quoted as saying that there is a developing branch of wildlife biology that identifies new species by their tracks, but that's irrelevant, you were taking about sources of scientific evidence... Not confirming a new species, there are many elememts to accomplishing this, again, this should to be something I shouldn't have to point out to you.

It is not scientifically impartial to deny a source of evidence purely because something has been shown to be falsifiable. Science asks questions, attempts all hurdles and get's to the very bottom of any issue, to attain the facts.

Thousands of tracks that yield dermals consistent with species traits from opposite sides of the country decades apart; are evidence. When you also have one of the best ex-forensic artists in the country (who doubles up as a primate prints expert), amongst many other examples of wildlife biologists and anthropologists; then you have a considerable unit of scientific opinion which is a piece of work trying to explain such elememts of information that is very regularly avoided being countered.

    4. The accumulation of which that consists of hair samples, multiple person eyewitness accounts, tracks, DNA, footage and recorded language.

I would like to add that if there was an acknowledgment of all these sources together, then science may have got to the bottom of it all way before now.

      You were welcome.

    5. Joe, I asked for scientific evidence. Evidence that can be falsified and repeated. So there goes your eyewitness account and tracks and footage and recorded language. Scientific evidence cannot be ambiguous. So DNA is left. DNA has always come back as some known entity or contaminated and unidentifiable as a result. There is no such thing as unknown primate result. Footers throw that out there, but then fail miserably at pointing to anything conclusive that lists unknown primate as a result.

      So we are left...that's right....nothing.

      Delete
    6. I think you'll find Don... I provided you an example of scientific evidence in tracks, and you also did exactly what I noted you would; side step and avoid it completely. Multiple eyewitness testimony is pretty good in a court of law too and there has been unknown primate DNA sequenced.

Your version of science does exactly what it has always done; ignore answering questions it can't. If answers aren't attainable, there's nothing to answer.

I suggestion read my comments up top... Properly.

"The Hoofnagle brothers, a lawyer and a physiologist from the United States, who have done much to develop the concept of denialism, have defined it as the employment of rhetorical arguments to give the appearance of legitimate debate where there is none, an approach that has the ultimate goal of rejecting a proposition on which a scientific consensus exists."
