New Study Shows Native Americans Mostly Linked To Western European, Not East Asian

A 24,000-year-old Siberian boy has finally been linked to Native Americans. According to RT.com, the boy's body was discovered by Russian archaeologists in the 1920s, lying under a slab of rock, wearing ancient jewelry -- an ivory diadem, a bird-shaped pendant and a bead necklacen-- all of which point to an Upper Paleolithic European culture. In a ground breaking two-decade long DNA study released earlier this week, scientists demonstrates that as "much as 30 percent of this brown-haired, freckled boy’s DNA can be found in modern Native Americans, which suggests that their modern population came directly from Siberia." The anthropological world is stunned by the new study. Here's why:

But having analyzed the so-called nuclear genome, which carries more evidence of our ancestry, he told AFP that "the result came as a complete surprise to us."

Firstly, the boy was from all over Europe: the two examined genomes show that modern Europeans had traveled much father into Eurasia than we had previously assumed.

Kelly Graf, an assistant professor at the Center for the Study of First Americans and Department of Anthropology at Texas A&M, who helped Willersley in his research, told Science Daily that the find “shows he had close genetic ties to today's Native Americans and some western Eurasians… Also, he shared close genetic ties with other Ice-Age western Eurasians living in European Russia, Czech Republic and even Germany. We think these Ice-Age people were quite mobile and capable of maintaining a far-reaching gene pool that extended from central Siberia all the way west to central Europe."

Secondly, the Native American connection was finally found.

"Our study proves that Native Americans’ ancestors migrated to the Americas from Siberia and not directly from Europe as some have recently suggested," Graf said. This sort of intricate and complete DNA mapping of a human is the oldest of its kind ever performed.

However, given the boy’s European-Native-American mix, it was strange that the boy had no connection to modern East Asians. This has led Willersley and his team to suppose that the ancient Native Americans had already broken off ties with the East Asians before interbreeding with the Mal’ta people, to whom the boy belongs.

This population must then have traveled over the frozen Beringian land bridge that used to be between Siberia and Alaska. This consequently resulted in the creation of the modern Native Americans.

    5. God this DNA stuff is getting stupid lol. "See!!! They crossed from Siberia as Europeans." Don't even entertain the possibility they may have crossed into Siberia from America.

The Hard Evidence that Daniel is referring to are the three Clovis People's bodies that were recovered. But aside from the one that was found on that California island, I don't realy trust the results. They first said Kennewick Man was the oldest known Body found in America (He turned out to be Irish and not so old.)

But the evidence that suggests that we been here 30-50K years are to me, more harder than the bodies. The archaeological evidence, mainly the clovis points. This is also why I think it is unlikely that Siberians were clovis ancestors. The Paleolithic Siberians, had their own tools unique to them. (They did find such tool in Alaska and British Columbia, but no farther.) The Clovis tools actually match tools from paleolithic France and Iberia.

      Tzieth

      Delete
    6. Come on, Tzieth, their tools don't 'actually match.' Some of them share similar outlines but the Solutrean tools don't 'match' Clovis tools.

The Solutrean and Clovis similarities are vastly outweighed by their differences.

Even comparing pre-Clovis sites where a maritime diet was more prevelant (like that of Solutreans) shows difference in tools and such.

The Yana RHS shows proper bi-facially flaked stone points and core tools as similar, if not moreso to Clovis people than Solutrean.

What's important is what we can prove though and not just what we think, and so far the hard evidence shows ~ 13,000 years as the date right now. I'm sure it will be proven in time to not be the oldest but as of right now nobody can prove otherwise and it's not like people haven't been trying.

    7. Yeah to tools were different, but the basic technology (If that word applies lol) was the same. One stone cut in a certain way with a huge trench chipped down the middle. The trench was the main difference. Clovis was a bit longer.

The tools found in Siberia and the Extreme NorthWest were mostly made from multiple obsidian flakes embedded into sharpened bone, ivory or wood.

Both the Solutrean and Clovis favored flint.

This is not the first time they ran these genetic tests on Native Americans. I remember 10 years back (Give or take.) that they found "Celtic DNA" in surviving members of East Coast tribes, but then said that it was inconclusive as they no doubt mixed with European Colonists. My point is that this is all speculation which is fine. But when they try to spin the speculation as "Fact" science takes a huge backslide. DNA is not going to prove anything when it comes to Palaeo Americans. We mutted them up and they were long mutted before we colonized.

I agree on you with "What we can prove.", whole-heartedly, but as much as I already don't trust carbon-dating, I trust it far less when it comes to the arctic circle where cosmic radiation is directed.
