Read This Awesome BFRO Report By Jim Sherman About a Bigfoot Habituator In Michigan

MI-BFRO Bigfoot researcher Jim Sherman has the entire state of Michigan covered. Sherman is practically owning the Bigfoot scene in Michigan right now and his research skills are unmatched. When he's not teaching, he's investigating reports such as the following story by a woman who recalls having multiple interactions with Bigfoot since childhood. Sherman can probably write a book about this lady -- who sounds a lot like a Bigfoot habituator. Here's the story from the Michigan witness:

Kalamazoo Michigan: I have several encounters with Sasquatch. I also believe it was the same one both times although the encounters were 10 years apart. The first encounter was when I was in 2nd grade. I was born in 1963 so this was quite a few years ago. I was playing at a school playground in Kalamazoo Michigan. My mother, teachers and other students were also at the playground. The adults were setting up a picnic for the students. It was close to school ending for summer holiday. I wandered off in to a wooded area near the playground. It was a very peaceful and sunny day. I was picking up pine cones, etc. while moving through the woods. I was not paying attention to my surroundings and was looking down at the ground. I was stopped very abruptly when I physically ran into a Sasquatch. It was huge and towered over me holding a large limb from a pine tree open. He was using his right arm to hold the tree branch. I was not afraid because I did not know as a child that this was an unusual thing. I just thought it was natural to see such a thing in the woods. He stood on two legs. His face had expression. First expression was surprise/anger. His face calmed quickly to a gentle, almost observant glance. To see his face I had to turn my head straight up as if looking at the sky. His skin had a tawny reddish hue and his body and face/head was covered in a deep chocolate hair/fur. He stood looking at me for a long time. I did not move. I did not notice any odd odor. He was very quiet and his eyes were very gentle. I sensed he understood I was a child. He turned to his left, releasing the branch of the tree he was holding with his right hand. He walked away from me in long, strong strides. The branch he was holding swung loudly over head. It was a very tall tree and the lowest branch was several feet over my head.

My second encounter happened when I was 16 years old (1979?). I was at my family home sitting on the front porch waiting for a friend to pick me up to go out for the evening. It was winter time. There was snow on the ground. This encounter also took place in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I heard a low gutteral growl coming from the side of the house. My parents were not home and it was dark outside. Our house is completely surrounded by woods. I heard large heavy stepping, something with great weight was moving slowly along the house to where I was sitting. I sensed it was a large animal. I stood up and walked off the porch and headed down the driveway towards the neighbor's home. I remember I started to sing softly to myself. The growling/knocking/walking noises stopped. Once I had made it down the driveway my friend pulled up in her car. I could see her looking at something on the side of our house. When I opened the car door I looked back at the house and saw a large figure peeking around the corner of the house. I recognized him as the same creature I had seen when I was a child. With that recognition I did not feel afraid. I felt almost relieved. The next day there were large footprints in the snow coming out of the woods along side my family's house. The footprints traveled to the front of the house, around a dogwood tree and down the front yard. My parents had someone come in to analyze the prints. They were told the prints were not a hoax but made by something/someone very large with much weight. It was winter time and there was deep snow on the ground. The prints were very clear and the snow beneath the print was particularly icy as if heat from the foot itself had melted the snow. I never told my parents about these encounters until a couple of years ago when they finally informed me that they had seen the footprints in the snow back in 79' and called someone to look at them.

I am a dancer and choreographer. I grew up not only dancing at the studio but also dancing in my parent's living room that has large windows that look out to the woods in back of the house. I have often felt something was watching me from the woods. I never felt frightened of it though. Maybe because I believe humans are far more frightening that Sasquatch. I am sure I have experienced visits from the same Sasquatch. In a way I feel rather protective of the whole species because I believe he was protective of me growing up.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Jim Sherman:

Recently I have been working on a few cases in Michigan that have seemed to show some sort of curiosity reported between humans and something mysterious in the woods. Growing up I had heard tales of Bigfoot-like creatures terrorizing people and In Search Of and B movies did not help to lessen that fear of the unknown that I carried with me whenever it started to get dark in the woods. One of my goals as a researcher is to try to demonstrate that this fear may be unfounded. Because of this desire, I pay particular attention whenever I find a report with either frequent interaction, often called habituation, or any type of positive interactions. The following case is therefore of great interest to me because it may show that continued interaction can occur over a long period of time and it may simply be a matter of trust and interest that brings two different beings into contact with one another.

After reading through this report I knew the location of both sightings. I grew up a few miles away from both locations and I spent a great deal of time in woods nearby as a child. I am going to remove the locations from this report because one of the schools is still there and operational and the mother of the witness still resides in the home where the second sighting occurred. Suffice to say the area still has plenty of large and interconnected forests with numerous bodies of water including tributaries of the Kalamazoo River.

The witness, Mrs. W, was in the second grade and was with her mother at an elementary school picnic on the playground. Her mother was busy cooking food so Mrs. W wandered off to the edge of the playground looking at pine needles in the trees. She remembered that the tall pines formed a canopy over her and that it looked to her like a “Wonderland.” The sun was shining through the breaks in the trees and Mrs. W was imaginatively “twirling and skipping” through a path in the woods. This was when she ran into something that she took to be a tree at first as she was “knocked back quite a bit.” When she focused on what she had run into she saw “…an enormous creature…looking at me…not a man…” She believes that she ran into the upper thigh of the creature and it felt “…solid as a rock, but with a softness.” She told me that she knew it was …not a man so the idea of never talking to strangers did not apply…” so she remained there and was not as afraid as she might have been. She had never heard of anything like this in the woods and recalled thinking it might be normal.

The creature looked down at Mrs. W with a “startled and slightly angry look on its face almost as if thinking, how rude of you,” but this look quickly changed to one of curiosity. She remembers smiling up at it and its entire face “seemed to soften.” She was positive it was a male but she could not tell me how she knew that.

Her description of the creature began with the declaration that what covered the figure was not fur, rather hair. It was scraggly, matted, long and brittle or dry looking. She could see three tones but mostly dark brown with some reddish and lighter highlights that stood out in the sunlight when struck. There was little hair on the face and it appeared deeply lines particularly under the eyes. The chest had hair on it but you could see leathery flesh underneath. By this point one must wonder how long the interaction lasted in order for so a young person to have such a good look at this thing before her but both remained motionless for a long period of time and the witness assured me that the picture in her mind is as clear as the day it happened. The head seemed balanced on the shoulders and no teeth, ears or neck were apparent.

At this point Mrs. W believes that her mother called her. The figure turned to the left while holding back a branch on the tree with its long right arm. It let go of the branch and it swung loudly “Way over my head…” It walked quickly out of sight but looked back once a bit over its shoulder. The manner of walking seemed like it was heavy, deliberate and powerful but the stride was smooth and unrushed. She ran back to her mom to tell her what had happened but her mom was too busy and no one seemed to listen to her. She realized that she had no name to give the creature and it made it difficult to describe it so she decided to stop trying to tell anyone about it.

Later, Mrs. W saw the Patterson-Gimlin film and thought to herself, “That is my guy.”

Mrs. W is now a dance instructor and lives out of state. She recalled how she used to get the feeling that something was out in the woods near her home that was located near the playground sighting. This feeling was particularly powerful when she practiced dancing in front of a large window that faced the woods. Much later, Mrs. W told her mother about these feelings and found that large footprints had been discovered around the house during one winter and “someone” had been called to look at them but they had never told the children for fear of scaring them.

About ten years later Mrs. W was heading out with a friend and thought she heard some heavy breathing and bi-pedal steps that seemed to loud to be a man. “That is the weight of my buddy,” she thought to herself. However, she was “older and nervous” but did not want it to sense her fear so she began singing and walked to her friend’s car. They both saw 'something' near the corner of the house as they backed down the driveway.

A few years later Mrs. W, who now lived just a few miles from home, was awakened one night by banging on her house. She now lived on the second floor and the banging was coming from under her room. Just before she went to sleep that night she had witnessed a strange sight. Twelve deer had bedded down in her front yard. When morning came she looked at the area of the banging and found dents in the house and damage to the shutters. She wondered if her “buddy” had followed her from home to home. She began to think of herself as “Sasquatch Bait.” This feeling intensified more recently when she moved to her new out of state home. She did not want to make the move and was homesick. The area was out “in the sticks” and she was a bit bored. One night while she was taking out the garbage she heard a series of long howls. “It seemed to come from something as big as a cow.” We discussed animals like Bison and Elk and she is familiar with them and stated that it could not have been those animals. It seemed as if the caller was in pain or at least very sad. Mrs. W empathized with her unknown vocalizer “It was representative of how I felt.” Mrs. W does not think that her “buddy” followed her from Michigan. She just believes that she is more in tune with what is going on in the woods because she is listening for them. I shared some vocals with her that I have captured from Michigan and none of them were exact matches. She was thankful that she had the chance to tell her story and I was spellbound for the few hours that we spoke. She left me with this last thought and I find it compelling: “I feel a connection and I don’t want any harm to come to this creature.”

Very easy to ding or dent if struck. Based on her interpretation of the account, the BF probably meant her no harm. I am assuming this woman is pretty (or atleast built really well) because she has danced all her life and she now teaches dance. Many of the "experts" believe that BF are both curious and attracted to women. I say "experts" with quotes because I do not believe anyone is truly an expert in an undocumented species. I had an encounter with a BF in 2009. The BF stood and observed me for almost fifteen minutes as I watched it. I can definately attest to the fact that they are curious.

I do not think it fair to imply that habituators are 'liars' though and think people should start having a more open mind as the old method is clearly not presenting enough evidence. These creatures are not animals and I feel that if we are to bridge the gap we need to acknowledge their obvious intelligence & start respectfully communicating with them as opposed to trying to catch them out. At the same time, and somewhat contradictingly; I think that the same habituators should have a more cautious approach... though many first hand experiences with these creatures report them being placid, if they are to have the same intelligence level as humans then that would suggest that they have the same different temperaments & also have the ability to manipulate the perception of their intentions, and therefore should not be completely relied upon to be as friendly as some may have us believe.

That's horse shit. People are presenting tons of evidence. It all leads to men hoaxing and lying. Making up stories. That IS bigfoot.

The habituators are liars, or fools for thinking every twig snap is a bigfoot.

Simply put: There never will be any evidence confirming the existence of bigfoot because it must exist in the first place to be "discovered". It's just not out there pal. Sorry.

      Delete
    8. ... And is that opinion voiced after looking at the sources I have presented to you, or have you ignored those sources and voiced another lazy skeptical attitude that keeps maintaining the evidence isn't there, even after it's been pointed out to you? I would respect people like yourself had they the time to look at the evidence and then debate their opinion, but people such as yourself obviously are a little bit too scared of the unknown and require the reassurance a little too much to allocate the time. The reason that nobody has found a Bigfoot body, or biological evidence that you require so badly, is because for 40 years they have been looking for a gorilla that isn't there. Furthermore; whenever a 7-11 foot tall human looking skeleton is found, it has to go through various governmental departments; departments that are propped up by long standing educational systems that are in turn propped up by religious ideals that have shaped the Western world's way of life for way too long. Think of this... it took researchers 60 years to find the panda, an effort that stemmed from indigenous people's legends and hear-say... they gave up after 30 years and then came across a panda skin in a Buddhist temple; resulting in the search starting again for another 30. You sir are the type of person that would have dismissed the panda in the first place... rendering your contribution to western science and progressive thought a very poisonous one.

    17. Joe, I moved to southern WV in 2009. I own 20 acres of land and lease another 1,200 acres of land. I had been an avid outdoorsman/hunter since childhood. The idea of BF or sasquatch existence to me prior to 2009 was "far-fetched" at best. I say this because I would be what most consider a "hard core" hunter. I stayed in the woods, tent camped for weeks at a time w/o human contact etc. This approach had proven very effective as I have several Pope and Young trophy deer and black bear to prove it. (Thus my username Archer1)

Because of my knowledge of the woods and the diff. species of wildlife in WV I always looked at the possibility of a large undiscovered primate living in the woods around us to be almost impossible. I say "almost" because I knew that it could be probable based on my experieces with big game and a mature animal's ability to remain undetected by me or the sheer numbers of big game in the woods, etc.

When I retired from law enforcement I moved to Southern WV and started teaching public school. On July 23, 2009 I had an encounter with a sasquatch. I live in a very rural area and I had been having strange things happen to me/my home/property but I had never "linked" the incidents together. To summarize my incident; I was setting on my front porch that overlooks the yard and woods. While I was working on a game feeder this creature walked down the mountain side and stood, then squatted down where it watched/observed me while I sat on my front porch. After approx. 15 minutes the creature stood and walked away. After walking for approx. 70 yards it turned and proceeded to howl/scream/moan so loud toward me that I could feel the reverberations through my chest. The creature screamed again and another responded from across the ridge.

Because of this incident, I quite hunting for almost two years. I was totally freaked out. I became so afraid of the woods that I considered moving. My wife and I had moved to the country because we have small children and we wanted to raise them at a slower pace than what Charleston WV had to offer. Needless to say, I was so shook up by what I saw/heard that my life was turned upside down. The way I started coping with my "fear" was by purchasing as much literature on the subject as possible in an attempt to truly educate myself. I have started keeping a journal of incidents. I realize that things were happening all along but I never realized what was doing them. To many incidents to count.

My wife and kids have all had incidents including a clear daylight encounter. The creature observed by my wife looked just like the "Hovey photo" that everyone has called a fake. Her encounter was prior to the photo being released on the internet.

Skeptics will say I am delusional, a liar, etc. I am currently working on my Masters Degree, my wife is completing her second college degree, we are sober, etc.

I personally believe these creatures are highly intelligent, few in numbers and they wish to remain undetected.

In time we will capture or discover a body. Since the advent of the internet less than fifteen years ago, pics, videos, eyewitness accounts have skyrocketed. Most "skeptics" do not realize that Iphones, did not exist only until recently, the internet did not exist until the late nineties, and flir, night vision, etc. was WAY to pricey for the average person to purchase/own only until recently.

I believe that our ability to purchase/own technology that wasn't available only ten years ago is why so many people are claiming to see these creatures and producing videos, pics, etc.

Remove BF or Sasquatch from the equation. Attempt to locate quality vids, etc. prior to the mid 1990's of anything that has not been filmed by a professional. They are "few and far between."

Archer1, you are a total hero!! Listen, not only did you come across as intelligent, articulated and credible prior to this comment, but the fact that you have managed to inject so much sincerity into that account leaves me almost speechless (almost). I am from the UK and because of where I live, am trying to attain as much information of first hand accounts from eye witnesses, as much as possible, so as to make up for the lack of first hand experiences I have had. The fact that you have worked in law enforcement renders your credibility even more compelling and I think you are extremely brave in coming forward with such an amazing account, regardless of your choice to remain relatively anonymous. There is an awful lot in that account for me to digest and because of the nature of blogs and the sometimes fast movement to other articles, I have rushed to respond to you without really thinking of how I want to articulate what I want to say, but I will say this... if people such as yourself can have the same courage in coming forward on this blog with their experiences, without the concern of getting ignorant responses (even form Bigfoot enthusiasts which I find very strange?), then we'll all move forward, together, regardless of your belief system around this creature and get a little bit closer to understanding it. For a lot of us, proof isn't a necessity, and I find it difficult to understand why we can't express ourselves without the worry of silly little responses and ignorant remarks. This subject means a lot to some people, with some of those people literally having been traumatized by their experiences, and if anyone like that is reading this, know that you are not alone and if you just have the courage to give your accounts, anonymously if you wish, you can move a little bit closer to feeling better about the experience. Getting to know as much as possible about the subject appeared to help you immensely with your experience, and it is important that people take the lesson from that and commit to commenting on this blog to help not just themselves, but everyone concerned with the species.
Your account was incredibly consistent and very, very compelling. Archer1, I very much look forward to talking with you again sir. You have a friend in me.

    3. I too have grown up in Michigan. Apparently you do not know much about our local lore or culture. There have been reports of "wildmen" or "Hairyman" for decades in Michigan. Many of the oldtimers in our local culture except these creatures as part of the forest and landscape. I have not seen a Bigfoot but I know of people who claim they have. I consider these people credible with no reason to lie. I do not believe that everyone is having a mass delusion or misidentification.

I ran back to tell my gramps and brother. I was out of breath saying.. There's a bunch of gorilla's over there!!

    3. More and more people are reporting sightings of Bigfoot/Forest People with very human like faces (actually very human like and native american in appearance) with their arm length in proportion to their bodies. This is in contrast to the more ape-like, dark haired looking creatures (I use 'ape-like' loosely as I still maintain they are highly evolved and human-like in every other aspect). The more I hear of these contrasts, it is leading me to assume that their could actually be different races of these creatures... as crazy as it sounds. The more towards the Pacific North West you go, the accounts tend to lean towards the latter description, though I understand that this is just a theory and may not be completely accurate?

      Peace.

    1. Lets do the math, there are about 57,000 square miles in Michigan's lower Paninsula. There are nearly 700,000 deer hunters in Michigan. Assuming 30% of that 57,000 sq miles is not available to hunting due to urban sprawl and 20% of the deer hunters go for the Upper P. We have around 560,000 hunters hunting about 40,000 square miles of land. That's 14 hunters per square mile.

Every November year over year. No bigfoot!

When you consider the pot and kettle topography and agricultural footprint, the hunter density skyrockets in the bush.

Trailcam's are everywhere in the off season as are bow hunters, turkey hunters and fisherman.

Opening day in the morning at dawn, it sounds like a war zone with shotgun blasts going off everywhere.

I don't beleive there is a single part of Michigan that isn't "recreated" on.

If bigfoot lived in Michigan, we would see way more evidence.

      Delete
    2. You are foolish and naive to believe that every part of anywhere is "recreated" on. 700,000 hunters? You are using DNR statistics of license owners I assume. Many (estimates as large as 1/3) do not hunt for various reasons. Age, time, injury, sickness, etc. Also, the average hunter rarely ventures off the beaten path by more than a couple hundred yards. Ninety percent of the forest is rarely seen because people stick to the trails, roads, etc. Trailcams? Same problem there. Many don't use em. Those that do rarely venture deep into the wilderness to hang em. Why? Human laziness. I agree that opening day sounds like a war zone but most people hunt the same areas of public land where the majority of the land is not hunted. Just facts.

      Delete
    3. Fantastic response, and the TRUTH I might add. Trail cams give off a particular frequency that is undetectable to human hearing but very much detectable to various creatures with heightened, highly evolved senses. Furthermore, is that if you have a creature with the intelligence of a human, that has potentially seen the erection of such these cameras from a far, &that also does not want to be seen for fear of it's own safety and well-being, you are hardly gonna see the thing tango in front of one, are you?

      Peace.
      Joe.

    4. Your strawman is built on assumptions and then you call me a fool. Brilliant. I used facts from the DNR and math... Plus i live in Michigan, have worked for the MDNR, farm, hunt, hike, canoe, boat, and swim here as well.

Then you make broad assumption about the average hunter's ability to "Venture Deep" and call them lazy.

I've had to clean up the trash left by those "lazy" hunters who actually did venture deep in so I know your assumption is false.

Now, to be fair, the density of activity per square mile decreases the further North you go. But in the area of this report, Kalamazoo the population density is very high and you would be hard pressed to find land you could qualify as "deep in" and untouched.

One more thing about Michigan, we have a short season of nice weather and take full advantage of it when it is nice out so in the nice times of the year, you do bump into other people "deep in"

Joe, what do you know about TRUTH in Michigan, have you EVER been here? Didn't think so. Your analysis of trail cams is based on compounded assumptions. If assumptions are the basis of TRUTH in your world then it's equally TRUTH that if I assume bigfoots aren't real, then that would explain why they aren't showing up on trail cams wouldn't it?
So, which assumption is more true? The data shows my assumption is more true until we have clear evidence in the form of a BODY.

  25. Why can't anyone obtain enough info. from persons allegedly sighting BF to draw pictures of what their faces look like? Being an artist, I would say that most all would not match. Then, of course, there would be those stating - or restating - that BFs vary in looks and/or species.

  26. Laughing Mule has been monitoring this interesting dialogue, and this is what he has to say about hunters: Hunters are not always or totally guided by testosterone, they have feelings and intelligence too! Only a scared little fool with deep seated insecurities will twist and scream denying what is so undercover of their bed sheets..... Howling at the night sky saying "it isn't so doesn't change it a bit or make them go away."

I did not bring them here but rather than expending good energy arguing whether or not they real, we should be asking ourselves whether they are good or bad ....

Of all the Michigan (1,140) reports that I read and researched from the late 1700s to present day (2014) this is what I found.

    Hunters
This group represents 175 of all the reports of Michigan Bigfoot encounters. In this category hunters of all sorts irrespective of types often head out into some of the most remote, isolated parts of Michigan’s outdoors. The anomalies they see or encounter are frontline and real. Although when we consider nearly a million hunters who turn out each year for annual deer hunting season 175 reports does not raise a lot eyebrows. On the flip side however, if you look at all outdoor activity as a whole; things people generally do outdoors in the wild outdoors including Camping, Horseback Riding Hunting, Fishing, Boating, ATV, Snowmobiling, Bicycling, and Hiking, they (Bigfoot bipedal encounters) account for 576 Bigfoot reports.

This a sampling of reports generated and reported by hunters in private and away from public scorn.

-- Hunter was so frightened by screaming 10 ft. bipedal he could not raise his shotgun sought counseling*MI

--Bow hunter smells odor sees five foot gray/black bipedal with human peeking around trees at him*MI

--Bear hunters sense they are being watched, see large beast cross road, peeking at them*MI

--Bigfoot rose up screaming piercing noise scaring hunters senseless*MI

--Bigfoot walked out of woods into corn field, encountered male deer hunters *MI

--Bow hunters puzzled by chilling loud screams *MI

--Bow hunters terrified by Big Foot approaching quietly, tree shaking violently screaming*MI

--Bow hunters watch Bigfoot beast standing in dark stalking 3 feeding deer *MI

--Coon hunters shined the woods at a 7 to 8 foot figure covered in hair with red eyes *MI

--Coyote hunters fled after finding 14-16 inch footprints with 5 1/2 to 6 foot strides *MI

  27. Laughing Mule says: Jim Sherman is indeed the real deal and his work is both professional and above approach. We (Michiganders) should be so fortunate to have a guy representing us so well. I have had the opportunity to interact with this guy a few times. I cannot say enough about the guy that I have not already said.

I spent a lifetime hunting down missing people, investigating this or that.

I am a man marked with the cross, river baptized, and with God’s grace and mama’s prayers….. I served two tours in the U.S. Army, graduated from Central Michigan University, and was featured on A&E/History channel as SME (subject matter expert) former private investigator, worked road patrol, crime prevention and investigator. I retired after 25-years of policing and was guest speaker for Midwest Criminal Investigators and instructed law enforcement officers in two of Michigan’s largest community colleges. Located and returned missing man to his native Ohio home 32-years after the fact, 21 months after beginning search.

I had a passion for hunting and fishing but do not hunt any longer. Why do I turn my attention to this bipedal creature? There are plenty guys and gals like me who have also turned their attention to this topic. Armed with knowledge of incidents they could not discuss on the job, they are using their skills to demonstrate they do live and inhabit the land.

The greatest obstacle is the ridicule factor. Many people of all walks of life, of all education levels, professional sectors have witnessed these things. Like many people, I do not know enough about them to determine whether it is friend or foe. - Laughing Mule
