Check Out This Awesome Facebook Page Documenting The Government Recognition of Bigfoot In Whatcom County

Back in 1975, the US Army Corps of Engineers included Sasquatch as a species in the state of Washington. 17 years later, in 1992, the Whatcom County Council Resolution 92-043 officially declared Whatcom County to be a "Sasquatch protection and refuge area" and asked all citizens to "recognize said status" on the grounds that "if such a creature exists, it is inadequately protected and in danger of death or injury." The county even have a festival dedicated to him.

This is a USAF Survival Map depicting Sasquatch as indigenous fauna. 

The Whatcom Sasquatch Facebook page has uploaded some documents detailing the city council meetings that started in 1991.
Council Meeting Minutes for 6/11/1991. This is just under one year before the Resolution was made. It also may account for the incorrect date on the actual filing form. All dates added to the document are correct, but the pre-filled date on the filing form are from 1991, the year it was first brought up.

    Note that the 1975 army environmental atlas also had a full page description for each of the creatures shown on the map and the description for the Bigfoot says that its existence is "hotly disputed", that "not one piece of evidence will withstand serious scientific scrutiny" and that Bigfoot might be "purely legendary":

    Actually there were numberous Bigfoot sightings in Whatcom County in 1991 and 1992. So Whatcom county followed suit with/that Skamania County (ordinance BF069-01)had passed originally in 1969 and revised in 1984 because both counties had experienced a great increase in BF sightings and had passed their ordinances to protect over zealous hunters and for the saftey of the general public.

This story was circulating the internet way back in 2004, or maybe as far back as 1999. Back when everybody was on 56k dial-up modems and a "Facebook" was just a regular book with directory listing of names and headshots. This story was so disturbing and so shocking that nobody believed it at the time. It was the Robert Lindsay " Bear Hunter: Two Bigfoots Shot and DNA Samples Taken " story of the time. And like Robert's Bear Hunter story , this witness didn't have a name. The only thing known about the witness is that this person was a government employee, anonymous of course. The author of the story was a science teacher named Thom Powell who believe it really happened and that the whole story was an elaborate cover-up. Powell said the anonymous government employee alerted the BFRO about a 7.5 feet long/tall burn victim with "multiple burns on hands, feet, legs and body; some 2nd and 3rd degree burns".
