Ouch!: "Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes" Did Not Deserve This Harsh Review

Soren Anderson from The Seattle Times just posted a pretty mean review of "Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes", a horror flick by Corey Grant. We've seen it, and in our opinion it's damn good. Unfortunately, critics like Andersen didn't see it that way. Here's Andersen's review in a nutshell:

A movie review of "Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes," about a young film crew that heads off to a remote cabin in the woods in search of Bigfoot. Seen it before? Sure you have. And this horror flick has exactly nothing new to say, or add, to that threadbare horror cliché.

We have nothing to do with the film, but that's gotta hurt someone's feelings. Here's another critical statement from the review. The critic doesn't even want to say the director's name here:

Mr. Director Guy insists they film every second of their adventure, and faster than you can say "Blair Witch Project," we're treated to jittery found-footage close-ups of increasingly panic-stricken young faces. Oh, no! Oh, God! Oh ... aaaah!

See? I told you you've seen this all before.

If any of these characters were the least bit sympathetic, you might feel a twinge of empathy for them. Alas, no such luck.

Cookie-cutter characters in a cookie- cutter movie. You wonder why the people who made it bothered.

  1. I watched this movie as well. It was mediocre, not as bad as that review though.

IMO it was entertaining ...at least until the final few minutes (a disappointing ending/twist]

  2. Was the twist that it was hieronimous in a suit the whole time?

    4. Stop saying Jesus since you don't believe in him! If you don't believe in Bigfoot stop coming to this site! Sounds like you chase a lot of things in your life you don't believe in. Sounds like you need some direction in life!

  6. A damn good movie you say? I can see you are a student of fine cinema and movie excellence...with all the hard work you all put into writing about bigfoot day in and day out, I can see where you would want to take a break every so often and watch a movie that's so good it leaves you shaken to the core. What do these other critics know anyway? They certainly don't know the subject matter, and most definitely don't get what this Director was trying to convey. I knew from the second I started watching what he was trying to say. He was saying that when a story is so good, when a cast is that amazing, and when the subject matter is sooo real, you can literally shoot the shittiest movie in the world *which he has done* and still leave the audience wanting another film by Corey Grant. Corey Grant... remember that name. This guy is going to be huge.

    1. I agree. Not just because I'm a member of the Corey Grant fan club either. This is cinematic history unfolding right before our eyes.

Did you every hear that expression that "you can't polish a turd"? Well, Corey Grant proved that you indeed can polish a turd if you have moxie, and the clothes to match.

  7. Thanks for the post, Shawn. I haven’t seen The Lost Coast Tapes yet, but it might deserve the bad reviews; at least I hope so. I have a little contest with a few of my fellow horror loving coworkers at DISH. Each week we try to find the worst/best B Movies out there, and then we watch them in a big marathon on Saturdays. I saw that The Lost Coast Tapes was available, and I think it will be a winner. I just added it to the top of my DISH Blockbuster @Home rental queue, and I should have it just in time for movie night. It looks bad to me, but I haven’t seen it yet. We do have a soft spot for great B movies, if this one is as good as you say it is, we may just add it to the collection.
