Watch An Episode From The First Real Bigfoot Series: Mysterious Encounters

Editor’s Note: This is a post by Bigfoot Evidence contributor Vicki W.

Here's a real blast from the past. The series "Mysterious Encounters" was one of the first TV series all about sasquatch research. 13 episodes aired on the Outdoor Life Network in 2003. The show was hosted by Autumn Williams, one of the Bigfoot world's lovely leading ladies. But you'll also see a younger Matt Moneymaker who co-produced the show and James "Bobo" Fay, as well as Doug Hajicek (producer) and Richard Noll. Hajicek would go on to produce the series "Monster Quest" for the History Channel. Rick Noll is a well respected researcher and a familiar face within the bigfoot research community.

This episode entitled "Mountain Devils" explores the area around Mt. Saint Helens, featuring the classic account of the 1924 attack on a cabin at what is known as Ape Canyon. A man named Fred Beck claimed to have shot a "mountain devil" which led to a retaliation by a clan of sasquatches on Beck and his fellow miners at a remote cabin during the night. Fred Beck's son appears in the episode and gives some insight into Beck's experience, and vouches for his father's story.

Other highlights are the Paul Freeman footage, an extremely interesting recording of monkey like screams and a long howl, and some unique lighting methods while exploring a cave. Williams has since expressed less than proud feelings about the show, but I think it was a great effort at something new for its time; an oldie but goodie for the Bigfoot community. Special thanks to Youtuber "socalsquatch" for uploading a few episodes of this very hard to find series.

  2. I'm not real familiar with Autumn Williams or her research in this field. She's just someone who I have not had the opportunity to follow for some reason or another. I's not that I was intentionally avoiding or shunning her work regarding Sasquatch, its just an anomaly I guess when you consider the amount of time I've spent following this subject. However, just from watching this episode, I can say that I wouldn't mind seeing more of her work. She "seems" level headed to me (solely basing that off of this episode alone). I'd really like to read up on more of her research. I didnt want to bring this next statement up BUT I must mention that she's very easy on the eyes as well when compared to other females involved in this field. All of my personal feelings aside, I'd love to see more of her work.

    1. By the way, before I spend time researching her work, does anyone know if she's one of those people who believe Sasquatch is paranormal? You know; telepathic capabilities, alien species, etc etc? I just don't want to waste my time on her if that's the case? Thanks.

    2. Maybe you wouldn't be wasting your time. Do you know for certain they are not "paranormal"? No you don't. No one does. If you close your mind off to learning you are as guilty as anyone who doesn't "waste their time" hearing about sasquatch at all.

    3. Anon 11:45,

I'm 1,000% certain "I" would be wasting "MY TIME". Its MY time, I don't believe they're paranormal, period. People can waste THEIR time all THEY want with that stuff. Its their TIME and waste away I say.

  6. I for one think autumn is probably the hottest bigfooter that we will have ever had. But thats beside the point, i loved that show and used to record it. It was great and i was so ticked off when it got cancelled. But why did it get cancelled? Most people dont know so ill enlighten them;
Matt Moneymaker, that is why. And im not BSing here or ragging on him. This is purely fact. Its pretty well known but needs to be more publicized. Moneymaker began staging things such as fake evidence, planted evidence, and even in one episode a picture from a game cam that was a silouette of a supposed bigfoot. It later came out from Autumn herself that this was a guy in a suit. And Autumn later admitted that it was matt who was in charge of production at the time who was responsible for all this. Thus just another reason moneymaker is hated the way he is in this community. He tried to lie and scam back then to make money. It didnt work, so hes back now. The bull shit is, this time its worked thanks to retarded americans around the U. S. Give yourself a big pat on the back and a jerk or two in your pants if youve contributed by watching the filth

    1. Whoa! Moneymaker's a hoaxer? I seriously didn't know that! Why do people still follow him then? Well I guess the simple answer is because they don't know. I for one never give people the time of day after its discovered that they are hoaxing. Moneymaker has some explaining to do here, otherwise I'm done following him as well. Matt, someone is calling you out, you may want to attempt to clear your name on these very SERIOUS accusations. Word travels fast Matt, it won't take long for this to grow like a wildfire and your career will go up in flames. Very interesting stuff here, WOW!

    2. matt is a dick.
many know this and even worse about him, but they keep quiet, except in private emails and the anon comments.
some hope to benefit from staying quiet, others are afraid of him.
maybe this lawsuit will finally shut him up.
worse than biscardi and fasano together.

    3. I had never heard this hoaxing allegation. I think there are different motives for hoaxing, not that any are right. You have the ones that hoax for their own gain...money, fame, self-promotion, etc., and some of the researchers that do it to generate interest in the possibility either from the public or even mainstream science. They may have their own personal gain mixed with it, but partially in their mind they think they are doing it for the sasquatch, sort of, if that makes sense.
Of course, there are hoaxers who do it for the thrill of fooling other people, as in Ray Wallace, for example.
It is most unfortunate, because in an ideal world without hoaxing, we would likely know the answer whether or not Bigfoot exists.

Also, if you still have the recordings of the show Mysterious Encounters, I would love the opportunity to see the other episodes that are currently unavailable. Any way you may be able to upload them on youtube? Or anyone else out there that has recordings?

    4. These accusations are more bullshit. As with so many anti-Moneymaker rumors, the exact opposite is the truth. Moneymaker did not want to go along with the truth-stretching that Doug Hajicek was trying to do, including that misinterpreted photo of a squirrel crawling over a trail cam. It wasn't a hoaxed photo. It just showed a squirrel in a way that looked like a big hairy shoulder. Moneymaker knew that and he wasn't going to pretend it showed a bigfoot. That was the beginning of the end, in terms of his relationship with Hajicek.

It was Autumn who didn't want to continue the series. It could have continued without Moneymaker, but not without Autumn. Ask Autumn about that. Autumn will also confirm that Moneymaker never hoaxed anything in the show. He didn't hoax anything, and neither did Autumn. She played up the drama of some scenes, but she was under contract to do whatever the director asked.

    5. Yes, I've spoken with Autumn about that series. She and Moneymaker were on the outs by the end but she never said Moneymaker hoaxed anything or staged anything. Autumn did say that both her and Moneymaker were very frustrated about some things related to the series. Neither of them was willing to do some things they were asked to do. They both helped with dramatic re-creations, but that is hardly "staging" thing in the way that is being alleged.

Moneymaker doesn't hesitate to call out hoaxers and liars. He is famous for that. That is why some anonymous liars are willing to lie so much about him.

The really good parts of that series were mainly Moneymaker's contributions. He was the main engine of the show. He found all the witnesses and locations, just as he does for Finding Bigfoot nowadays.

  7. For those that didn't know, Autumn williams does believe in some of the paranormal and habituation.

But more importantly, she is very ill. There was a post up that she was closing down site access to new members and is walking away to focus on her health. I beliee the artical said a return of cervical cancer, very serious.

I'm sure thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.

    1. Well, thanks for answering my question. I think I'll pass on pursuing more of her work. I just can't take the paranormal stuff seriously, at all. Anyway, best wishes to her.

    2. If you've read any of Autumn's work, you'd know that she stated many times that she didn't "believe" anything.

      Delete
    3. So you're saying she has stated that she "saw" Sasquatch paranormal activity?

      Delete
    4. No. She stated that researching something is not necessarily "believing" it.

    5. Williams does not fall into the category of Bigfoots from space or interdimensional realms. She does explore what she calls "long term witnesses" which is her term for people who have multiple encounters.
She has an interest in what many might call 'telepathic', but not the way most think of it. She explains it as more of an intuitive perception of emotion that may be possible in other animals as well as human to human, (not mind reading, just perception of strong emotions).
It is true she doesn't discount so called 'habituators', because she believes that the sasquatch is more related to humans than apes, and may be capable of much more than we think they are.
Speaking of that, I've got an interesting story about gorillas. I think I'll work on it for a future post (if anyone is interested).
Williams did a podcast for blogtalk radio where she talks at length about these things. She authored the book "Enoch" and has received a lot of criticism about it. Many believe her longterm witness was lying. I haven't read the book so I don't have an opinion about it.
I would agree that researching doesn't mean believing necessarily, and she is a solid researcher with a great contribution to the BF community. Smart and sassy, but not dripping with ego like so many in this field. I wish her the best.
Sorry I'm so chatty tonight, lol. I'll try to shut up now, lol.

  9. Autumn is the real #1 female bigfoot researcher. Out in the field, actively searching. I don't know why she doesn't get more credit.
