Debunking a myth upheld by cynics since 1958 [Tidbits]

Editor’s Note: Jonathan Poulsen has been researching the Sasquatch since 2008, but really involved himself heavily in 2011. He has since devoted his life to the near impossible challenge of verifying the existence of the Sasquatch. Shawn refers to him as the Bigfoot encyclopedia.

Could misinterpreted bear tracks be the result of every single Sasquatch footprint ever found? Yes, argued many cynics (skeptics, as they prefer to be called) back in the good ole' days when many of the first footprints were being found by such individuals as Bob Titmus and Jerry Crew. But, all the authenticated plaster casts are obviously very definite.

Most Sasquatch footprints (such as the ones left at the P-G filmsite) are clear-cut and are easily identifiable as belonging to a hominid of some sort. However, when bears occasionally have their rear paw overlap that of their front, it's a cluttered mess that shows evident signs of claws (a characteristic that a giant ape presumably would not have).

Not only that, but when an overlap track of a bear's hind and front paw is left, it's a maximum of 13-14 inches long, which covers only the shortest of Sasquatch tracks (which the most common length is 16 inches).

  1. Single impressions or tracks from a Sasquatch are far less convincing than a trackway. Consider this: every once in a while a potato chip looks like Elvis, just like every once in a while a mark on the ground looks like a giant human footprint. Unfortunately there are only a few properly documented/recorded trackways (London 2012, PGF, Meldrum in Wash., ...). Long trackways are much more difficult to refute

  2. To make the blanket statement that all *bigfoot* footprints are from bears is a insult to those in the field, and just plain silly. Those making that claim, clearly have not investigated this mystery. While some bear tracks might be mistaken, by some people, some of the time, for bigfoot tracks, I do not believe it explains all tracks. It also does not address the countless eye witness reports. Those individuals making such statements as fact, are trying too hard to debunk this puzzling without really examining all the data. In my opinion. SWP

  3. Don't forget Dr Krantz (I think) specializes in footprints and has some amazing ones.
