Does Bigfoot Have Fangs?

A sketch of Matilda's face
by project associate dArlet Devisser

Yesterday, we posted a sketch of the Allagash Bigfoot by an artist named idig500 and there was a little bit of controversy about whether or not Bigfoots have fangs. The depiction of the creature is actually based on the witness' description of what he saw. The witness reported the creature as having fangs-- which some people find it it difficult to believe.

SnowWalkerPrime (the interviewer) says this belief that Bigfoot don't have fangs is probably caused by "The Disney Effect", where monsters and giants are perceived as being friendly and gentle. SWP suspects that there are several species of Bigfoot which could give different variations in features such as fangs, like some witnesses have described.

In the yet-to-be-released, Erickson Project documentary, there is a purported female Bigfoot named Matilda. According to those who have seen the young Sasquatch captured on HD video, the creature has fangs.

Last March, an anonymous YouTube user, claiming to have seen the video gave this description of what they saw in the Erickson Project footage of Maltida's face:
I am one of the few people lucky enough to have viewed the best clip…
Much more detailed than the Patterson/Gimlin Film

Here is just some of what you are going to see:

A full facial close-up:

nose similar to ours (but w/ larger nostrils)
slightly chapped, rosy lips
pink mouth, blackish tongue
pointed teeth, like fangs
deep set eyes that dart around and don’t blink
her head is round, shaped more like ours than a gorilla’s, but her brow is much more prominent
she has lots of fine, flowing hair on her head (dark reddish brown) and soft short hair on her face
when she walks away, she moves just like the female in the Patterson Film

I can’t wait ’til everyone can see this.

Comments

  1. I do not see a problem. Eyewitness accounts have varied. Most do not see teeth as the mouth is not open or hidden or usually to far away. The lucky few have reported no fangs, fangs, canine incisors, and human type incisors. I imagine their are variations as SWP points out, and that seems pretty reasonable.

  3. I thought Primate males had larger fangs than females (I swear I just saw that on a TV show on primates).

If memory is correct, that would account for both views.

  4. Honestly, if this whole dna study/erickson thing isnt released in the upcoming few
months, or definetly within the year, they will nrvrr happen. People will lose faith and interest, the projects would lose support, and they will ultimately fail.

I understand that this stuff takes time and what not, but if it takes too long people will jump to one of the two conclusions: 1) its flawed and has little to no substantial evidence to back up the claims or 2) we were all being played for even though they knew it would never be accepted by a journal.

Melba and co are running out of time. If nothing extrodinary appears from the study in the next few weeks/months, very few people will care about the results if it ever does get published. They reeeeeealy have to hope one of these other major groups that are forming dont steal the spotlight for them during there 'review'

    1. The problem with these things is that information travels too far and too fast in today's world. This should have been kept under better wraps untill they were close to being FINISHED , not when they just started it. (Not just Bigfoot world this rings true, sports these days have press confrences to announce that they are gonna announce something next week).

    2. Actually,
I doubt anyone will lose interest. If and when the study comes out. The same people that are interested now, will be interested then.

Why do I think that? Well, for starters.
This post was about, "Does Bigfoot have fangs?"
After only 6 replies the subject has turned to,
"The Ketchum/Erickson study better come out soon", to paraphrase a little.

I'd be willing to bet that Shawn could simply post the name Ketchum. And there would be 30 responses, clamoring for either the study to be released or there is no study or how Melba Ketchum is a money grubbing con. Even though no money has changed hands.

Back to the subject of the post.
I've never seen a Bigfoot. Is there anyone that has? And can you comment as to rather it had fangs or large incisors or not?

Merchant's take on it seems to ring true to me. But I'm not a biologist.

    1. For the sake of accuracy here, I need to correct you on one point. Scott calls that image "The Sneering Bigfoot". He found it in his photos after he returned home. He did not HEAR any "snarls".

    2. Did i say he heard anything? I think we get the point lets not split hairs here.

      Delete
    3. Actually, you did. A snarl is a sound. Since we're back to it, I'll also remind you that he didn't SEE anything that day.

Scott can interpret his photo any way he wants, but he's describing a menacing creature basis a blobsquatch enhancement, not his own eyewitness account. I generally like his work, but that conclusion is poor science.

NO a "Growl" would be a sound. a snarl is a facial expression usually accompanied by a growl. basically curling your upper lip to bare your teeth. People do it all the time without making a noise. "A look of disgust" is normally a snarl. Sheesh!!

    6. A "snarl" is a SOUND. My problem is with Scott's depiction of a THREATENING (sneering, snarling) creature, when in fact, he did not HEAR or SEE anything that day. It's Blobsquatchery at its worst to assign emotional traits to an enhanced frame or two lifted the next day from a video.

Not the exact one, but very similar. You can pull drawings almost identical in face form the internet from comic book creators, etc.

    2. Michael, Snow-Walker, is a biologist. If you had kept watching his videos as of late you might realize that. I understand if you formed your opinion of him around the time his earliest videos came out, but I actually find those videos refreshing now. He tries to present the subject without taking himself too seriously. He has not made any wild claims, has not tried to force one theory on the community, and has left all possibilities on the table to be discussed. We need more SWP if you ask me. I have really enjoyed the Extinct! group so far. Do you not like Team Tazer because they aren't boring and don't present everything as absolute proof? These guys are looking at the subject in the right light if you ask me, and you get a laugh out of it. Stop taking yourself so seriously and you might actually see some of this "evidence" in a new light. And many people have reported seeing fangs during their encounter. If you think that Harry and The Hendersons is an accurate portrayal of these animals, you might just be reaching. Keep up the good work SWP. I for one really enjoy the fresh viewpoints. John

    3. No I agree with anon, there's way too much weird stuff posted on Sasquatch in general which will forever keep the subject trapped in sensationalism and if the focus is on a monster angle, the better for some. Just look at how every TV show's produced.

I do believe some people have an interest in it staying in that corner because it makes it all seem more crazy, like something you can therefore never solve and certain fractions have an interest in that conflicting situation.

Sadly it seems SWP's just one more comedian of late intent on this subject being even more mysterious than it already is, or ever needed to be. And many buy into it.

Sure, there just might possibly be more than a single species out there, though I suspect it's more of a regional aspect but not for second do I think they have teeth like vampires.

Whenever did humans have fangs, any early man with fangs? Stop it. I think Dr. Ketchum's work will show cryptozoology's not even the right box for this field, hidden yes animal no.

When you think about it, it's mainly white man's world seeing this as some kind of freakish scary monster where Native Americans never did that, it's just another physically build stronger powerful tribe of people to them. Without fangs.

      Delete
    4. Anon is such a beautiful thing - you can say all sorts of horrible things about people and walk away. While you have ZERO proof that this pic was copied, I have all the proof required by law that it was not - the original PSD file with dozens of hand-drawn layers.

Now you don't like it, you think it sucks - I can live with that. One person's Monet is another person's black-velvet Elvis. Art is very subjective. You think I'm a hack? That's OK. This is my one and only BF pic (but I'm planning more that will almost certainly piss off someone because being an artist and all that, I like to try different styles). And I've done many dozens of pics that folk really enjoyed so I can live with your disgust. It ain't gonna make me crumble - sorry.

What's disturbing here isn't your distaste for this pic, but that people in this community continue to dismiss the emotions felt by witnesses. I really doesn't endear you to outsiders like me. "We welcome a diversity of opinion" - what a joke. There are some who do, but a vocal few who threaten those who upset the status quo. AND WHEN YOU TALK IN CAPS LIKE THIS THAT IS THE EQUIVALENT OF SHOUTING ONLINE. And calling folk who disagree nasty names - wow, where do I sign up? :P

I don't think you will ever connect with this species because you can't even connect with your own. How can you possibly study an unknown without also studying the human response to that unknown? Telling a witness how they should feel is arrogant at best and counterproductive to your own cause. People respond to fear differently - their way may not be your way but you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss them. Because how humans respond to this unknown is just as important as the unknown - it is the human reaction that will dictate the future of this species once reality is confirmed.

Swallowing a little pride and winning converts should be job #1. Outright dismissing folk who don't believe as you - well how easy will be it be to convince fearful masses that there is nothing to fear if you won't even acknowledge their fear? Why should they believe someone who denigrates all who don't believe as you?

It's not "eccentrics" damaging this community, it's closed minds.

My picture was an interpretation of what this witness felt - it's intended to be ugly and stark because the witness "felt" threatened - he felt raw fear. Do I believe that is what he saw? Well it really doesn't matter - all we have is his perception of the event. Drawings like this are cathartic for people - it helps them to own their fear - they can hold it, control it, confront it, and overcome it. We don't overcome that which we don't face.

And this fang obsession??? What difference does it make? My cat has fangs and its very loving. Alligator moms are extremely gentle with their young and many think alligators are monsters. This hails back to lock-step thinking. The world is not black and white. Sentient beings are more than the sum of their parts. I personally don't believe they are monsters (and I had a terrifying encounter). But I think if I had all that hair and no hairdryer, I would definitely have bad hair days. Maybe this Big Fella was just cranky that day - we all experience a range of emotions, why can't Sasquatch?

    7. I imagine I ticked some folk off. I apologize - that was never my way. I'm a peacemaker, a kind soul who has experienced a lot of pain and who has a lot of empathy for those in pain. I've given generously to other communities. I'm a strong proponent of paying it forward and random acts of kindness. I'm breathtaking and incredibly modest. :) I have no problem making fun of myself and calling myself an idiot when I'm being an idiot. And I use humor to cope. All these great things but the one thing I don't have and which many take for granted is time.

I hate the fighting in this community - it accomplishes nothing and detracts from common goals. I want to give, but I don't want to encourage all this backbiting. You are on the precipice of something great and historic. And if you put aside your differences and all worked together, you can all share in the glory sooner rather than later - you will all be sought as regional experts. You will all be the guides that bridge two worlds. That's awesome. I envy you. I hope I'm here to see this success for you because most of you have worked hard and earned it.

I wish I could be a researcher; I even have a background for it. But the division that exists in this community today - it's toxic to me. It's a stress I can't afford to accept; it will quicken my disease process. So I will always be the outsider that draws pictures some will love and others will hate. This is as close as I can get to your world for now. My next pic is a comic rendition of my own encounter - if you see it, please do not take the image literally. The 3rd one you'll hate but it's a style I want to do so too bad. ;) But the 4th one... that will be special.

I want to see 1 mystery solved in my life - that's why I'm here because ultimately I believe you can. But if you get all hatey on me, well I do dragons too and I'll just annoy the dragon community instead. They have their own show too - Finding Jabberwock: http://snk.smugmug.com/Photoshops/i-dig/2012-Pix/i-SmqhpkC/1/XL/FindingJabberwockLgAni2-XL.gif

      Delete
    9. Thanks for the compliment. But no fighting in other communities? Haha, well that's definitely not true! Ever go to a politics board? The community I manage is pretty peaceful, but it's also small; if we had 500-1000 members there would be fighting I'm sure. Another community I belong to fights about the same things every 6months or so... after 7 years it gets old. And I've seen some awesome fights in programming communities but nerd fights are different. ;)

Whats different here is the stakes - much much higher. The discovery... well that's not the right word, the 'acknowledgement' by mainstream science and culture of a new species of highly advanced primate or human (I'm on the fence here.. there may be both) is historic.

It seems it would be everyone's best interest to get along now. Then after history changes and you've established your expertise to the world, let the nerd fights over the meaning of observed behavior and other theories begin. :)

  10. Seems like many people got into this subject originally because of the way society's presented these bigfoots, a horror movie influence and a line of thinking still in the back of most Americans' minds.
Tabloids and television only want to make a buck on this, never forget they're not interested in it being real and I even suspect many bigfooters aren't.
When this biological puzzle's solved, possibly by the Ketchum study many will lose a fuzzy old and dear dream.

  11. My issue with the sketch wasn't really the fangs, it was the lack of a neck, the crazy hairdo, the arms that are as long as it's body, and the fact that it looks like a bodybuilder.

  12. Most encounters are peaceful events are they not, so why this need lately to build up the species as something totally agressive? There'll be pissed off bigfoots no doubt about that, but in most sightings they simply walk away from you. Having said that, definitely you need to be careful if you run into one. You just never know, take the giant they taped in that Marble Mountain home video you'd not wanna mess with something like that so better be alert still. On the other hand don't go thinking these are ill willed hostile monster creatures, either.

Umm... I didn't see it. But these were the characteristics noted in the interview:
    1. 7.5- 9' tall.
    2. leaning against white birch tree, 3-4 feet off path, initially facing stream, holding tree, couldn't see hand only arm and forearm to wrist.
    3. twisted upper torso toward person, shoulders with head, minimal neck movement (difficult to see neck, huge traps)
    4. could see butt despite twist.
    5. feet planted in bush; shrubs 2.5' tall up to knee & upper leg much longer - completely cleared shrubs.
    6. barrel chest - at least 2-3 feet thick back to front. 4 feet wide at shoulder
    7. pronounced shoulders. massive muscular.
    8. very long arms - felt it could have knocked his head off if he walked by on path.
    9. swollen belly but chest pronounced over belly
    10. black body hair, oily and shimmered in moonlight
thin hair on chest, 4in hair rest of body, stach & beard, no hair around eyes. long hair off head onto shoulders. hair on arms swayed when it rocked.
    11. big black bowling ball of head; rounded head - no sagital crest
    12. mouth extended horizontal past outer edges of eyes.
    13. could make out lips when snarled.
    14. yellow teeth & short eyetooth fangs
    15. flashed upper teeth only, couldn't see lower teeth.
    16. thick brow.
    17. dark eyes.
    18. flat hooded nose.
    19. pale grayish skin color around eyes.
    20. wrinkles under eyes.

With that I think I did a pretty good job.

Perhaps it is normally docile, reads Utne Reader, and is more refined. But maybe the fella was just having a bad hair day and cranky about foul crayfish - it happens to the best of us. We can't all be Carebears. But even if a Carebear doesn't get the hugs it needs, it might look like above. :) i-dig

I already lead 1 community and it's a great group of folk who share and communicate like adults and trust me, the diversity is wide from radical liberal to radical conservative. But we have a common ground - a common interest - and we meet there and put our differences aside.

That's one pic I drew - it's just my 1st and no way wholly reflects my views on this species. I think it's diverse and I hope my set when complete will show that. I want to be remembered for the whole of my work and the whole of my character, not bits and pieces. Some will be open and wait it out; some will be closed and judge now... I have some say in how most will remember me, but hold no illusions that I can control how all will remember me.
