Dr. Melba Ketchum Swats Down Another Rumor: The Relict Hominoid Inquiry

The Relict Hominoid Inquiry is an on-line free access publication set up by Dr. Jeffery Meldrum at the Department of Biological Sciences, Idaho State University. It looks like there's a rumor out there trying to link Dr. Ketchum's Bigfoot DNA paper to this publication. Below is a little background on what the RHI is about.

According to Meldrum:
"The objective of the RHI is to promote research and provide a refereed venue for the dissemination of scholarly peer-reviewed papers exploring and evaluating the possible existence and nature of relict hominoid species around the world.

A strictly on-line free access publication, the RHI contains primarily Research Articles, as well as Commentary & Responses, Brief Communications, Essays, News & Views, and Book Reviews."

It seems that some groups or website forums have been speculating for the past few days about the possibility that Dr. Ketchum will be submitting her paper to the RHI. On her public Facebook page today, Dr. Ketchum states that she doesn't even know what the The Relict Hominoid Inquiry is.

Here's her response to the rumor surrounding this:

More rumors and mis-reporting : This paper has not and will not go to a cryptozoology "journal" of any type including Relict Hominoid Inquiry whatever that is. Allegedly, some reporter has stated something to that effect. It is NOT true. This study is one of pure science and is once again subject to publication in main stream scientific journals. If I had just wanted all of this data out there without caring if it was respected as a good study or not, I could have had it published last year in a lesser journal with less stringent review. Other peer reviewed papers I was involved with went to well-respected journals and it is the same with this one.

Dr. Melba Ketchum

Ketchum's response to one question:

David V. To Melba Ketchum:

Can you also address the rumors/ mis-reporting going around that the reason it is taking this long to come out is that you are "hardheaded", or resistant to make certain changes the journal has requested.

Dr. Melba Ketchum ‎@David

That is absolutely not true. We have accommodated every request.

Dr. Melba Ketchum

Besides, this is a TEAM effort, there are many renowned scientists that have worked diligently along side me to make this happen. My hat is off to them all. They are friends, colleagues and tops in their fields. It is a labor of love for all that have donated their time and energy to make this a success.

  1. No news here. Dr. Ketchum is being consistent by sticking with her initial position.

    1. Ketchum has no credibility. If you wait for her to publish, you are going to be disappointed.

  2. It's nice to see the Dr. nipping these rumours in the bud before they get blown out of proportion.

    1. Yes, I suppose SN...but! The more she comments, the more crap is read into it. You know how it goes. It's just such a no-win situation!! I just hope all this is "worth" the wait. I guess we all need to define what the "worth" would be then, eh?

BTW, you're avatar picture is great. It reminds me of the deer head in the tree story awhile back. Or are you just resting;)

    3. Yeah - it's just too much waiting and everyone is making their own assumptions. You are on BFF, right? Sheesh. Too many pages to read already.

My avatar is hilarious!!! I searched and searched and finally found this one. That's what I feel like after a hard day's work out being with the Sas!

  3. Why are people still speculating that this is going to come out in some pseudo-science journal?

  4. I don't know why she just don't admit the thing has been rejected after the review, stop stalling just end it!!!

  5. "Relict hominoid theory, whatever that is," Wow, those I would think are intended, minimizing words. Surely Dr. Ketchum could introduce herself to Dr. Meldrum's website/online journal and mission statement?

  6. At this point, I just feel like anything these people say about the DNA results is just a bunch of useless chatter. I worry about the sources of DNA and Ketchum's handling of the whole project. I depend on peer review to actually give this credibility because no one is keeping quiet ad this point and all their back and forth comments and replies is just about egos and not about the DNA results. Ketchum should just quiet down and say nothing whatsoever because if her results really are worthy, then ultimately she will have the last word. Any barking she does back and forth now just makes her seem insecure.

    1. Unfortunately, unless she can demonstrate a confirmed chain of custody regarding the samples, then the samples are meaningless, regardless of what the DNA analysis shows.

    2. Those two comments are probably the most irrelevent I have seen in a while. DNA is not something you can invent. It is or it is not a unique species, particularly if it is nuDNA and even more so if she has sequenced the entire genome. The chain of evidence is important for linking DNA to a partcular place but not crucial in this case because all we need is to establish a unique DNA. Take the time to educate yourselves.

    3. You really need to do some reading. Yes, DNA IS something you can invent, now.

  7. If the paper is published it will be the first word, not the last. The scientific community will then have to debate its credibility. Peer review is the first hurdle, not the finishing line.

    1. Peer schmeer. Unless this thing is being continuously revised, it doesn't make sense that this thing is taking so long. Which sucks for us believers.

  8. Jeez, how dumb can some of you be. Read between the lines. We know this is a real species don't we, that is many of us do anyway so what's the worry. Obviously Ketchum knows too, she doesn't fool around and her behavior actually makes good sense. Believe you me, the lady has the Sasquatch goods this time. I really wouldn't worry about it, it's coming out sooner than later and all the crap will be over. In a way, I'm glad Krantz won't be seeing this result because he would know all the theories were wrong, whereas Meldrum I'm sure will manoeuvre and find the right face to put on.

  9. She is shining the light of science on a question that is hundreds of year old. Would you take the time to get it right? I would. It is good to see the mention of other experts being involved. She can take all the time she needs for my money. The important thing is the result, not what other people think about the process or how long they think it should take. Too many folks addicted to instant gratification here. She does science proud and I appreciate her shutting down these dumb rumours quickly.

  10. Well if she can mention one journal the paper it is not going to. Why not mention 100 more it is not going to? To narrow down the field for us. J.D.

  12. So...no definitive proof of bigfoot?

Didn't think there would be, but I will drop by from time to time to point out that you are all being deceived. Every once in awhile they will post a tidbit to keep you believing, but it's all a bunch of bull.

  14. I think she's full of SCAT, every time I read something about it it,s always another story or should I say excuse! It's delay, delay, delay, I say B.S. I actually started out believing about this imaginary "paper". It isn't top secret military plans so why all the secrecy? If it's true why not just come out with it, don't go to some stupid show like Finding Bigfoot, with it's self appointed experts, Bobo and Moneymaker what a coupla A$$#*!&s I'm an expert because I have a FLIR and I run around in the woods hooting and hollering. Go to a respectable mainstream News agency, if it's true and you have proof THAT is BIG news, not just national but worldwide and they would cover it DNA evidence is indisputable. I believe in Bigfoot, not so much in Dr.Ketchum. Make Every Lie Believable And Ketchum, M.E.L.B.A. KETCHUM.
