Mammoth Video Is Hoax Update
This blog isn't about hairy elephants, but since we posted the 'Woolly Mammoth' story a few days ago, we thought you might appreciate an update.
According to an article by French Tribune, there's a debate about whether the 'woolly mammoth' in the video from Siberia was "graphically inserted in the picture" or was it "a bear having fish in its mouth."
Here's the story:
A small video clip which shows wooly mammoth crossing the river in Siberia has created diverse opinion among people. Experts said that they last saw mammoth some four millennia ago and it is quite impossible to see a live mammoth.
The video has been shot by a paranormal enthusiast named Michael Cohen during last summer in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug region of Siberia. Now, experts have divided themselves into two groups in which one group said that it is nothing but a hoax, while second group believes that it was a wooly mammoth.
The first group said that it was a hoax and the mammoth has been graphically inserted in the picture. So, it is nothing but a computer generated elephant. They further affirmed that Cohen has been involved in many UFO coax and this is the one of the major reasons for not trusting on the video.
They said that most astonishing part of the story is the length of the video. It is just 10 seconds long in which a giant animal is shown crossing the frozen river. It amazes them that how could one stop shooting an animal which is an extinct species. Therefore, they term the video to be an explicit hoax.
Meanwhile, there is another group which believes in the video. But they have said that it was not a mammoth but a bear having fish in its mouth. It seems that video recorder has misjudged the animal as the height of the animal shown in the video is quite small than mammoth. The shape of its head and trunks is also quite different from extinct mammoth.
Derek Serra, who is a Hollywood video-effects artist, said, "But there's really nothing in this video in focus. The rocks in the foreground have a blur to them that doesn't seem natural”.

Not sure where the French newspaper got their information from. There might be several sources where they're taking their information.

DeleteWell, it comes to hoaxers, you always have to look at the clip they give you. Unless they give you the entire recording from beginning to end and the context in which it was filmed, it has no validity. People need to fork over the whole enchilada when offering video "evidence."
ReplyDeleteThe "shake" of the video .... There's something odd about it. It doesn't look like a natural hand-held motion.
ReplyDeleteHere's why I say that. I know how to motion track and composite footage so I spend a lot of time dealing with camera shake. I hate to cry hoax on anything without having all the facts and video, but at this point I'm leaning towards just that.
Here's why:
1. The camera shake looks more like it was shot on tripod, then the shake was added in after the composite was done to help sell the shot.
2. I don't ever really see water or spray interacting with the elephant. And btw, it is an elephant, not a bear with a fish. If that is a bear, we've got a whole new story because judging by the wave height, that is the largest bear in history.
3. Finally, the ever popular - why did they stop filming? If they had to flee for their life or their battery ran down or whatever - tell us! Explain what happened, give us the background story. Otherwise .... It feels like a hoax.
And last, I couldn't detect any shaggy hair. That doesn't mean it's a hoax. I'm just wondering why it was sold as such. Also, don't wooly mammoth's tusk curve up and outwards? We have their skeletons, we know what they look like.
I think that Ben Radford is a liar. He is not to be trusted. He is the typical pseudoskeptic who tries to portray his opinion as if it is the objective truth. I call that lying.
