Beautiful Photoshop Renderings Bring Ancient Hominids to Life

Paleoart is an informal term first coined by Mark Hallett for art that depicts subjects related to paleontology. These may be representations of fossil remains or depictions of the living creatures and their ecosystems.

For decades, paleoartists have told the story of human evolution through sculpture and drawing. Now their tools have evolved, too.

Computers allow a level of detail and control that isn’t possible with other media. Their creations can come closer than ever to bringing our ancestors to life.

Check out these awesome Adobe Photoshop renderings of our ancestors by a dude name Akela.

  3. These are realistic, but I doubt very accurate. There seems to be a trend nowadays among people who do these reconstructions to make them look either very human, or very apelike, with nothing in between. The human looking ones above just look like modern humans with funny shaped heads. the apelike ones are indistinguishable from chimps. And why the African looking Neanderthals? Weren't they primarily a northern species?

  4. Why do people automatically assume that because something is about africa that it is racist? I hate to be the one to state the obvious but if the evolutionary Eve originated in Africa, doesn't it make sense that her skin would be darker to better tolerate the relentless sunshine?

  5. Perhaps part of the resistance to recognize Sasquatches are the cultural biases, from hairiness to skin color.
Wouldn't it be easy if they were just dumb animals?

  7. impressive...the neandertal folks probably had no dark skin according to newest research...and of course there is still a debate, if our ancestors - until Homo sapiens - were or were not covered with hair. if yes, they probably looked more archaic than they appear on those photos...however, astonishing, if anatomically really correct reconstructed, how "modern" they all look...

  8. This is a sad rendering and I feel racist. Take the time to look at the evidence and so-called fossil record that does not exist. What a lie. The parade of man was just a drawing with a theory built around it and the lie continues to this day with no evidence to support. Dont be fooled. How pathetic.

  9. Racist or specist ?
Clearly many of them are still around, and yes there is something wrong with this theory of EVOLUTION.
Just look Turkanapithecus, said to be 17 millions years ago, and Ardipithecus from the same region (where half of africans fossils was found), said to be around 4 millions years ago. They just look the same, except Turkanapithecus had a more proeminent chin !
We came from Africa?? Maybe you, not me.
