Teacher Recounts Childhood Bigfoot Sighting To Students, Says The Bigfoot He Saw Looks A Lot Like The Minnesota Iceman

Editor’s Note: This is a post by Bigfoot Evidence contributor Vicki W.

Mr. Paul Karaskevicus, a Hedgesville, WV middle school teacher sits down with a classroom of eager young students and recounts his amazing experience in the summer of 1960 when he was an eleven year old growing up in southern New Jersey. According to Mr. Karaskevicus, his brother, a friend, and he were out walking in the woods when he became separated from the other boys. Bending down by a small stream he heard the sounds of crunching leaves and limb snaps. Looking towards the sound he saw nothing and casually went back to what he was doing. Once more he heard even louder crunching and snapping limbs. This time he saw it. Standing in a pathway at the top of a hill was an 8 ft. hair-covered monster! The young boy stood frozen in utter terror.

Boy and monster stared at each other for a moment, until Karaskevicus regained his sensibilities enough to run. When he caught up with the other boys, he asked if they had seen "him". "Him who?" came the puzzled reply.

Karaskevicus described a huge hairy man-like monster. Chuckles erupt as he explains that the creature was obviously a male. Later a search was launched by his parents and neighbors, but it turned up nothing.

Fast forward some 20 years later when Mr. Karaskevicus is walking through a New Jersey mall with his wife. The couple stopped to examine something displayed in a casket. It was none other than the famed Minnesota iceman exhibit. "This is what I saw," he told his wife.

Karaskevicus concludes the fascinating tale with a confident assurance that these creatures are really out there, they are huge, and they are in his opinion some type of human. He firmly states that what he observed back on that hot summer day in 1960 did not represent an ape or an animal. What he observed was some form of human. Although the creature didn't seem to make any aggressive or threatening moves toward him, he maintains he does not visit the area alone, nevertheless, to this day. "They are there. We will find them someday. Maybe they're smart enough to stay away from us. I don't know." he concludes. One has to wonder if both species might be better off if we do stay away from one another.

  1. He seems credible and with nothing to gain by sharing his story, however he sure does have a lot of details for an 11year old to note and then to remember so clearly some 50 years later.

  2. Does anybody know how tall the Minnesota Iceman is. He doesn't appear to have the bulk that bigfoots are reported to have (Patty). Also, does anyone have any idea where he is or if he still exists? Why have these photos just recently surfaced and where did they originate? One thing that strikes me is how thin his hair is. He doesn't appear to be equipped to handle a Minnesota winter with that amount of hair coverage.

  3. Maybe the Iceman wasn't local but just passing through, and happened to get shot in Minnesota. But if he's fake, why go through all the trouble of painstakingly adding hairs on one at a time, why not use the cheaper traditional longhaired ape and Bigfoot suits of the time? Indeed still used now. But this icy fella does show skin, and Patty does too. Interesting story told here, by the way.

  4. I've heard some people mention that gesture of hands in the air. That's intriguing. His description was very good. In fact, it sounded strangely (face wise) like the Todd Standing Sylvanic art work - I say art work, because I'm not so convinced about those images. He's description of it being like man was what really stunned me. That was what I saw--something that I believed to be human but because of the dark hair--it made me think of apes. The shape around the dowager's hump like area, lack of a true neck and the every so slightly loose-limbed bent knee joint walk had hints of ape, but its confidence on two feet, it's long-legged gate were so human.

  5. Mr. Karaskevicus had an awesome childhood memory. If he was my childhood teacher, he will of motivate me to become a Bigfoot hunter. Too bad.

  6. Here is the link to the scientific article that was published in Argosy magazine by the two scientists who examined the Iceman. If it was a replica it was a smelly one because they smelled human decomposition.

The link below is the guy's story who killed it and exhibited the Iceman. He kept it in his basement for a long time frozen in a freezer much to his wife's chagrin. His name was Hansen.

The next link is a recorded report of someone who actually viewed the frozen fellow during one of the exhibits.

There was another article that stated Hansen sold the Iceman to some rich collector later in Hansen's life and at that point it disappeared. I can't find that article at the moment.

I am a voracious reader and I get on these topics and read everything I can unfortunately I don't keep up with the links/references like I should.

I truly feel this is hominid, one of the Bigfoot types that have been seen and possibly a primitive human being similar to a Neanderthal.

It is truly an amazing story and there is no doubt that the real Iceman was switched out for the replica after Hansen's lawyer scared him to death by saying that
if the Iceman was proven to be a human he could be charged with murder. His lawyer's advice dictated a lot of Mr. Hansen's actions...

Perhaps a lesson that some should consider in this day and time!

Thank goodness there are still mysteries in this world!

  7. Jeremy, about the bulk, I have my own theory about that which I'm sure some here will feel it's ridiculous.

I think there is a Sasquatch/Bigfoot variety and then the primitive human type. If you study the pictures closely and the videos there are two basic types one can see. One is more bulky looking, huge and the other is more hominid looking and both are hairy. It certainly seems that way to me but it is my opinion only. Whether they are both hominid only time and maybe Dr. Meldrum will tell.

I have lived during a time of great scientific, technological, medical and warfare advances. My first radio is now an antique as well as my transistor radio record player. My Great Aunt died at the age of 96 and I could not believe all she had seen in her lifetime. If there's anything I do know it's that there's so much more I don't know.
New species are discovered every day. There are still remote area's on this great planet that are yet to be truly explored. (unless the government knows all)

In the Argosy article above I think you will see how they discuss whether the public has a right to know about the Iceman or will it cause panic. Too often the government has hidden and continues to do so because of fear of causing public panic. I personally think the only thing that causes me panic is when I think of the idiots we have in Washington trying to shove stuff down our throats, but I shall not digress.

There are still mysteries and why does the answer have to be only one type of unknown hominid?

  8. Of course, this is just another story without one shred of evidence.

If this teacher did see something in 1960, a skeptic could just as well say that it was someone playing a prank on some kids.

  9. The fact that the Minnesota Iceman was a carnival sideshow makes it likely that it was a fabrication.

    ReplyDelete
  10. A fake seems more unlikely because of the short hair and Bigfoot fabrications at the time consisting of long full hair bodies, never showing skin like the Iceman or Patty.

  11. @ Blondie.
Thanks a million for sending me to the two bigfoot encounter Argosy articles about the Minnesota Iceman. I thought I had read most of Bobby Short's site, but I missed this.

I never made a comment about the Minnesota Iceman last week, as I did not know enough about it. I do now.
Some of the leading primatalogists of the late 60's were fairly certain this is the real deal, only do not know what type of hominid it is. Your opinion about two types is as good as any.

  12. Either the Iceman's left arm is broken in many places or it's a fake.

  13. Thanks Chuck aka Alpha Dog. I'm so glad you read the articles. They are very informative.

If several of the Anonymous posters who made comments above me had read the links they just might have made a little different comment.
Also one of the articles answers the broken arm question.

  14. Just as there are so many different variations among humans, I would expect that there are many variations among BFs. They could be different hair colors, different bulk from thick to thin, various heights, different lengths of hair on their bodies, some hairier than others or with more hair in some places than others, different kinds of faces... it goes on and on.
