Was Bigfoot Forums hacked?
Hacked? |
Last Friday, the Bigfoot Forums website was out of service for a few hours. Visitors were aware of the recent funds to move the web server from their currently ISP to a virtual server, but they weren't expecting the move to disrupt service for as long as it did.
On Friday, September 15, 2011, The Centre for Fortean Zoology wrote this about the event:
The Bigfoot Forums website http://www.bigfootforums.com/On Sunday, September 18, it was later revealed that Friday's loss of service might have been the "result of a deliberate attack on the site by person or persons unknown":
was down for some hours last night. This appears to have been something to do with the ISP, and nothing to do with us, but the CFZ would like to apologise for any disruption caused.
We would also like to Paul Vella who has kindly offered to fund the BFF's move from the current ISP to a virtual server.
Despite what I wrote yesterday it appears that the loss of service on the Bigfoot Forums the other night was a result of a deliberate attack on the site by person or persons unknown, or some random thing we don't know as yet! Watch this space.A DoS attack or denial-of-service attack may not be much of a surprise to those members who have been banned from the "BIGFOOT FASCIST FORUMS", as some would describe the website. According to members who have been banned by BigfootForums, if you somehow upset an Administrator or you're known as a self promoter, chances are, you will be banned.
Was the service disruption last Friday night a result of system maintenance problem or was it a hack-attack by former members who have been banned?
Since the last update from CFZ, the website forum is now up and running, humming along nicely.
bigfoot game is fun but not for readers that type 10 words/min.
ReplyDeletehave no idea. since BFF is full of self-important blowhards who attack any newcomers and are generally jerks too-cool-for-school at conferences to talk to anyone outside their insular group. but, it wouldn't surprise me if some disgruntled enthusiast struck out. still wrong, but not surprising.
