Finding Bigfoot: On the hunt for Big Rhody in Rhode Island

Matt Moneymaker and the Finding Bigfoot crew have been in Rhode Island for a few days now. The news media and radio jockeys in the area seems to be getting the latest scoop on what's going on.

According to Projo.com, the program organized a meeting Wednesday night, inviting West Greenwich residents who have had Bigfoot sightings to attend. "There was quite a big turnout," Keith Hoffman, executive producer of the show.

The episode is still filming but their biggest fan Tim Fasano can't wait to review it, "I really hope this, and other episodes don't follow the cheesy formula of eye-witness accounts, and re-creations that don't prove anything. I wish they would stop adding audio and be honest about it. Did Cliff really hear the three tree knocks  or did they just pay him to say that? Is this show a hoax? Is is real? I think I know the answer."

So have they found any signs of Big Rhody aka Bigfoot in Rhode Island? To find out, read the report below by Bryan Rourke:

WEST GREENWICH, R.I. -- Bigfoot could be on the loose somewhere in the woods of western Rhode Island. And an investigative team and camera crew are tracking him down.

"Finding Bigfoot," a TV series on Animal Planet, is in West Greenwich on Thursday, looking for the so-called Sasquatch, hoping to capture the creature on film, or at least capture the comments of people who've reported sightings. And there are many, said Keith Hoffman, executive producer of the show.

The program organized a meeting Wednesday night, inviting West Greenwich residents who have had Bigfoot sightings to attend. "There was quite a big turnout," Hoffman said.

The TV series, which debuted this year with six episodes, is filming its second season, 10 episodes for 2012, Hoffman said. Each episode features a different state.
Already the show has visited Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Oregon, Washington and Alaska.

You wonder what's going on. If there's only one Bigfoot, why so many states?

"That is a misconception," Hoffman said. "There are many Bigfoots. The one in Rhode Island they call Big Rhody."

A Bigfoot is tall and hairy and otherwise looks and walks like a human, Hoffman said. But Bigfoots, Hoffman said, are a little different in different parts of the country.

"Bigfoots have similarities," Hoffman said. "But they also have differences. In Florida, they call it the ape skunk because they report it smells."

The "Finding Bigfoot" show involves a production crew following an investigative team called the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, which has four members.

"Three of them believe with all their heart in Bigfoot," Hoffman said. "One is a skeptic. It makes for some good debate."

The research team, Hoffman said, goes wherever it receives credible evidence - photos, videos and sound recordings - of Bigfoot.

"They're pretty good at being able to identify a hoax," Hoffman said.

What brings the Bigfoot researchers to Rhode Island, Hoffman said, is a video shot from a car in West Greenwich.

"You can see this figure running along the car," Hoffman said. "You can't quite explain it."

Many years ago, somewhere out West, a man called a news conference, produced enormous foot-shaped shoes he said he made and claimed he was the origin of the Bigfoot, which was just a myth of his making. And Hoffman, among others, doesn't believe that myth.

"Of course there will be people who will go out and seek publicity."

Much of Thursday's shooting of "Finding Bigfoot" in West Greenwich is scheduled for evening.

"Bigfoots tend to be nocturnal," Hoffman said.

No date has been set for the airing of the Rhode Island episode of "Finding Bigfoot," but Hoffman said it would likely be sometime in January or February.

"Bigfoot has been eluding man for a long time," Hoffman said. "So they don't necessarily want to capture it, just explain it."

  2. Ok, a couple of things...I live in Rhode Island and I'm a Bigfoot fan. With that said, I had never heard ANYONE use the phrase "Big Rhody" in reference to a local Sasquatch until I found myself sitting in the West Greenwich town hall when I attended this meeting. After the meeting and some googling, I've found a paranormal team that seems to have coined the phrase "Big Rhodey."

However, this paranormal team seems to be just as hungry to be in front of a camera as Matt Moneymaker and his cronies.
