What Caused Todd Standing To Quit?

On Sunday, Todd Standing announced he was closing his Facebook profile, while the fate of his biggest project, Bigfoot North hangs in the balance, many are wondering what's next for the Canadian Bigfoot researcher. His story didn't begin with Les Stroud, or Dr. Jeff Meldrum. It goes back pretty far. Has the uphill battle to prove the existence of Bigfoot proven too much? Does everything end with Bigfoot North (which only raised $1,235 out of $900,000)? Or does he move on without the support of the Bigfoot community.

In the beginning, he didn't need the community's support. The media was all he needed and he had no problems getting attention. The Canadian media plays him up really well, and has never questioned the authenticity of his claims. While his support in the Great White North seems to be holding strong these days, his support is dwindling elsewhere, and no where is the opposition more apparent than on social media. News now travels fast, and everything you say or do is broken down in a matter of minutes. Standing's last public appearance in Washington made it on YouTube hours after the event. This allowed antagonist and skeptics (who already had their knives sharpened even before the event) to analyze and break down every part of his claims -- the biggest debate was about whether his sister was a special effects make-up artist or not.

Negative social media buzz may have not been the deciding factor for Standing to leave Facebook and end his latest project. The cloud of negativity surrounding him probably goes back a little further than that. One of the most memorable moments was when Standing was featured on the Finding Bigfoot TV show. Matt Moneymaker gave Standing the benefit of the doubt when his team traveled to Canada. In September 2011, after filming in Canada, the crew released a statement that was posted on the BFRO forum. Surprisingly, they claimed to have debunked Standing on camera and said his tales were full of contradictions and couldn't stand up to their questioning. On TV, they didn't seemed as harsh. However, on the forum, it was all out in the open for everyone to see.

According to a post by forum user Bossburg, the crew had this to say about Todd Standing:

The wildly overblown, self-serving assertions made by Todd Standing in those Canadian newspaper articles are quite misleading. We interviewed Todd Standing, as one of several witnesses in Alberta. He used the opportunity to drum up publicity for himself in Calgary papers. That's what he's all about -- he's a publicity hound. We interviewed him and basically debunked him on camera. His tales were full of contradictions and couldn't stand up to our questioning.

Usually the four investigators are not unanimous when some of us feel a witness is not credible. In Todd's case we all came away feeling that he is not credible, and we said so afterwards.

The statement was released prior to the show being aired, when things were a little less tamed on the show. Standing responded via a Facebook message, and became defensive:

Well congrats to the "Finding Bigfoot' team and producers. After being on hundreds of newspaper, radio and tv interviews and shows, the finding bigfoot production is the worst I have EVER seen. Their production company is Called"Snake oil productions" for a reason. They have no intention of finding bigfoot and they couldn't possiblly be stupid enough to believe they could. They literally filmed me in a spot they choose where cows are grazing all around. And they couldn't even sneek up on the cows! That is what the morons are hearing "in the Candian wilds" that they cannot identify. They are right when they say it is not coyotes making that sound. Its cows they are hearing. That is what happens when you go bigfoot hunting by a ranch you idiots. I could right a list of 500 reasons these people will never film a deaf three legged moose in live action. Never mind Bigfoot. Here is a link to a good tv show that did a real piece on my bigfoot work. http://youtu.be/6RetQRg7J5Y

One of Standing's best footage was featured on Finding Bigfoot, and given the title on YouTube: "Bigfoot Video a Hoax?"

After Finding Bigfoot, things were quiet for a while  -- until Les Stroud came into the picture. Survivorman built up a reputation around his survival skills and is one of the most skilled experts on survival. In the Bigfoot community, everyone knows about Les Stroud's Bigfoot encounter, and it's one of the most bone chilling stories you'll ever hear from a hardened woodsman. When word got out that Standing was filming an episode of Survivorman with Les Stroud, supporters called it a vindication of his research. Others could not wait for Les Stroud to debunk standing.

Earlier this year, Standing was at an all time high, and Survivorman: Bigfoot supposedly did very well, ratings-wise. It did so good in fact that more Survivorman: Bigfoot are now in the works. Standing took his new-found fame and started Bigfoot North. It started with a radio show, featuring all-stars like Dr. Jeff Meldrum and Dr. John Bindernagel. For a new show, it was a hit. It quickly fizzled out after a couple of episodes, but it was all that Standing needed to introduce an even bigger campaign.

The Bigfoot North Kickstarter campaign is the biggest Bigfoot campaign in the history of Bigfoot. Standing is currently asking for $900,000 Canadian dollars (776,400.87 US) in donations for the project. Bigfoot North is actually an unfinished documentary featuring "5 never before seen Sasquatch Videos." It's unclear why $900,000 is needed to finish a project that's already halfway done, but that's not stopping many from donating. It's now been a month, and it's been stuck at $1,235 for a while with only 26 days left to go. Unless there's a benefactor that comes to the rescue, the $900,000 goal is high doubtful.

Did Standing see the writing on the wall and decided to call it quits? Or is there something much deeper behind it all? Dr. Jeff Meldrum had recently came under fire for supporting Todd Standing, but we doubt that has anything to do with Standing's latest announcement to drop Bigfoot North. It certainly leaves one to wonder why the announcement was made? Perhaps this isn't really a big a deal as some like to believe. People in Bigfoot (especially those with the biggest claims) tend to have multiple lives, and Standing probably isn't going anywhere.

Bigfoot North documentary supposedly features a live interaction with Bigfoot.

    5. I am a beiver in Bigfoot. I am sick of people putting down Todd Standing. I never missed one episod of Finding Bigfoot. However I am really disappointed in the show now. I consider it now to be pretty much same old same old. Having watch the show it gets boring. I'm interested in peoples accounts of their witnessing Bigfoot. I also enjoy the town meetings. But they never seem to find a damn thing.! I watched Todd standing and Les Stroud doing the survivor Bigfoot series. I learn more from Todd standing in the couple shows that he was on then I ever learn from watching Finding Bigfoot. Todd is no hope so he knows what's going on he believes in this creature and has seen it without a doubt on many occasions. So ridicule him if you will but I believe in my heart he's the real deal! Keep up the good work Todd! Work with Les Stroud again and again and I know that you guys will find the prize.and I will be watching.Thank Todd and Less.......Ray Avis

    6. This was the only bigfoot show that didn't have people going out in the woods yelling and doing stupid crap. I believe that Todd has probably taken a clear video of bigfoot and they took his show off and threatened him or took away the evidence because if bigfoot was proven real then all these logging companies would have to shut down to protect their habitats and they wouldn't get to make all their dang money. As for Bigfoot I would never disclose the area where Bigfoot was found or pictures were taken I would turn the pictures over but I would never disclose the area. Finding Bigfoot is for children under 10 it's more of a cartoon it's not serious you know they never leave game trails that even if they get on game Trails if you look on some of those they're actually on the street but anyways it's a joke I believe Les Stroud the guy is legit and I think he'll do more for the research than anyone.
Truly "finding bigfoot" will put an end to logging it would go down as the most protected animal ever. Which is why big monet people don't want it found.

Plenty of Bigfoot, just none caught... Sod 20 years from now, in the face of every source of evidence short of modern type specimen in the present, you're the one at the dense helm of a cognitive bias, and nothing more argument to authority-esque than a good old negative proof fallacy, dear boy. The people pleading, audaciously in fact, are you people, in that you insist that consistent scientific method should be altered or prejudiced against for preferences that cannot be supported; special pleading. Enthusiasts aren't in a position to fear what the evidence entails and therefore deny it's there. That's all I plead for is an even playing ground son.

  27. Papa Joe, Papa Joe, thanks for teaching us about the negative proof fallacy. It really helped the other day. I was talking to this guy and he said that there wasn't enough evidence to prove that Santa Clause existed. Well, of course that threatened by belief system and I was about to insult him. But then I remembered what you taught us. I told him he was committing the negative proof fallacy. The lack of evidence supporting the existence of Santa doesn't prove that Santa doesn't exist. And actually, there's tons of evidence proving the existence of Santa Claus. Countless eyewitness accounts told over the years in many cultures. Even photos and vidoes. And the physical proof! Dental impressions in baked goods. Piles of wrapped gifts that have no other plausible explanation for their appearance. Of course, there are fakes out there but that doesn't prove anything. So thank you Joe, for bringing hope to a weary world. Thank you for saving Christmas!

    2. I'm always happy to help the little minded, but as your efforts at sarcasm were as shoddy as your 'version' of the topic, I'll proceed and expand on your education a little more... Hey! I'm happy to help of course!

"There is a prominent view in epistemology (the study of knowledge) that “belief” and “evidence” go hand-in-hand. They say that evidence provides the support for belief, and that without evidence, there is no good reason to have a belief. In philosophy, this perspective is called “evidentialism” – the view that a belief is only rational if it is well-supported by evidence."

That being a legitimate scientific view belief and evidence, on the state of evidence regarding this topic... A view that by this stage of searching for the mountain gorilla, giant panda and giant squid had three times the evidence to support, I don't have to invest anything on mere belief, as I along with many experts who drown out both of our credentials (yours more than any other), I am convinced by the evidence. Nobody has ever made the claim that they have proof for the existence of Sasquatch, merely that there is evidence for an unknown primate residing in the wilderness of the US. How can we make that claim? Because we have unknown primate hair verified by primtologists, and we have dermal ridges verified by forensic experts and field biologists. We then come to matters of footage that are plentiful enough in the comparative rarity of the subjects' alleged numbers... Footage that has been presented by an anthropologist who is a world authority on evolutionary bipedalism, a wildlife biologist who is a former advisor to the UN, a world pioneering plastic surgeon and a very prominent primatologist.

      Now... Next time you're getting tuned by your superiors on the negative proof fallacy, remember to inform them that the negative proof fallacy is where one assumes something is true if it cannot be proven false. It can also happen when one assumes that something is false if it cannot be proven true... And considering we have people like whom literally wrote the book on DNA conducting field research these days, tell em Santa is as bad a comparison as your allocated nicknames;

      "Papa Joe"? Who's your daddy?

      ; )

    4. Hey Joe F, in my little opinion this is what I think is the very best video taken that I believe shows the possibility of the existence of this species. Is there a "recent" analysis of this video you know of ?..........

  30. Todd is a brave dude to camp around Lions and Grizzly let alone Furry Shaquille O'Neals. I'm unsure why so many coward abusive bloggers are JEALOUSLY attacking him. Regardless if you think his photos are fake, there's nothing published that can compare. Seems the seed of peace that the Bigfoot plant will only ever be gardening in Todds heart. The haters are obviously looking for greed. The pure reason they will never come close to the hidden community of fuzzy wuzzy.

  31. Bigfoot is real. Its incredible that so many in the public who have done no investigation into the subject critize those who have done it and actually ventured into the wilderness to get actual photographic, video, scat samples and dna evidence. Actual close-up videos have been presented and still people ridicule. My hat's off to Todd Standing, don't let the idiots stop your research. Its time to recognize there is a primate species in the northwest living in the wilderness.

  33. Haters will hate, but I for one have seen Sasquatch. I could give a crap who believe s. It's like this people, Sasquatch reads your thoughts , knows your heart, so if you never encounter one, check you heart. They are far from stupid, and heartless , unlike most comments here, which would explain why you will never encounter one, or a family. See people are greeedy and think only about their own needs, they have forgotten how to live off the land and how to take care of nature. They throw their trash out their windows, pour oil in their grass, no guilt at all at what they are doing to the earth. The price you will pay though will be high. And your selfish ways brought it on. People have forgotten we are all one, we all need each other, instead your brain washed to hate, waste, and kill. It's sad, real sad that it's come to this. May God have mercy on all of our souls. We are all guilty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. I have never seen, but I keep an open mind. It is Not that I want to believe, but There is no reason not to. Late 1800's there was a previously unknown Gorilla (known to the natives) that was collected (hunted) so that science had no choice but accept it's being. Native Americans acknowledge its being, but science can not. There has been DNA evidence, but no body, so science will not accept. Thousands of photos and hundreds of casting, but no acceptance. Maybe, the nay saying Christians whom believe in the Bible need to stop and think of Cain and Able. God put his mark on Cain and cast him away. Now the million dollar question: is Bigfoot the descendants of Cain? Yes, there are those that will go out of their way to muddy the waters for their reasons and amusement: we will never know why. But, as with the gorilla, can we believe without a body, or must we kill one to prove it is?

I believe Todd Standing Found something out there in the woods. He goes to great lengths to hide him self and blend in. I dont doubt him and his evidence Im grateful he was able to get these images. I would love to travel around with him, but because of physical issues i cant. Sincerely, Anthony L. Jones. And Leah R, John.
