While some believe bigfoot to be big gentle giants, that just want to be left alone, others feel that based on certain reports, these "gentle giants" can also be savage monsters capable of attacking people without reason. Such was the reported case in 1965.

"In 1965 news outlets around the United States reported on a very strange story from Monroe County, Michigan. A massive hairy creature had reportedly attacked 17-year-old Christina Van Acker as she and her mother, Ruth Owens, sat in their car. The story has of course faded from memory over the years. It remains an interesting case however if for no other reason, it claims actual physical contact between a human and the ever elusive Bigfoot.
The Van Acker Bigfoot encounter occurred on the evening of August 13 when Van Acker was driving herself and her mother towards their home. Neither of the people in the car apparently saw anything at first, they just felt a bump. When Van Acker stopped the car she was immediately grabbed by, as Ruth Owens stated, “A Huge Hairy Hand.”
The Bigfoot creature was about 7 foot tall with shaggy black hair, weighed an estimated 400 lbs, smelled moldy and growled like a mad dog. The hairy beast grabbed Van Acker by the hair and slammed her head into the car door, Van Acker passed out. Ruth Owens, seeing that there was nothing she could do, ran from the car to get help."

While this community experienced this most unusual incident, I believe the authorities were in panic and confused as to how to respond.... in the end though, the women were called liars, frauds, and worse simply for reporting something that become more and more apparent by the end of the 1960s in Michigan.

There continues to be sporadic reports of Bigfoot sightings in the county and one occurred in September 2009 about a mile or so away from the original 1965 report....
There were about 114 reported encounters or reports of every sort connected to these bipedal creatures in Michigan before the 1965 Monroe Monster incident. That incident followed on the heels of the 1964 Cass County Monster sightings on the west side of the state everyone in an uproar. Everything from authorities and town folk chasing a bipedal thing through an apple orchard to motorist sightings to a whole field of immigrant farm workers clearing a field when they spotted a giant animal on two legs with red eyes.... And let us not forget the "Momo Monster" of Missouri, all during the 1960s. What makes the Monroe Monster interesting is that all personal hand drawn descriptions of these things side by side were pretty darn close.... Did they migrate from the Pacific West? Do they migrate from Canada? Are there breeding populations of things? Are they good or are they bad? Nobody seems to able to answer that, but as long as we feel its okay to ridicule people for reporting their sighting we will never the answer. There is a cave in Upper Michigan off limits to public with petroglyphs inside. That is carved pictograms or pictures carved in stone of a "Hairy Red Man" that again, looks very similar to hand drawn descriptions of bigfoot as seen in the 1965 Monroe Monster incident or the Cass County incident of 1964 and the Momo of Missouri. How can this be possible? I would submit that it would be easy to write off all the reports from police officers, school teachers, nurses, truck drivers, Mom and Pop, children and farmers of people reporting these sightings as looney.... but if that's the case we're all in big trouble in this country. I do not believe that to be the case. I believe it all evolves around economics. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteThe cave I referred to where the pictograms were found contained numbers of ancient arrow head and spear heads where the "Hairy Red Man" picture was found. But would native Americans shoot arrows and throw spears inside that cave where (I assume) some big hairy man habituated? Then you (I) read David Paulides books, Missing 411, and it doesn't leave a pretty feeling in the woods any longer.
