Guest Post: Why I don't Believe Todd Standing

Visit his blog, Bigfoot Crossroads.Todd Standing is one of the most controversial people involved with bigfoot research. Famous for his "Sylvanic" research and videos, it comes at no surprise that he is considered controversial. The footage he has acquired is amazing in the realm of bigfoot. Clear, up-close shots of bigfoot peeking at the camera from behind boulders and tree limbs, it's the kind of footage no one else seems to be able to achieve. Of course to really view the footage you have to pay a fee, but I have no issue with that. I have been very clear in my opinion that I don't see anything wrong with people making money off what they love to do, with one exception. As long as the individual isn't intentionally defrauding people with fake evidence.
While some individuals believe Todd Standing's videos and work 100% authentic and groundbreaking, I come from a different opinion. I reside on the side of the fence that many others have positioned themselves as well, where it is the overall belief that Todd's photos and videos are 100% fake. For the sake of this article, I am not going to go into personal beliefs about his claims or his research methods. I'm going to simply look at the two most famous captures on public record that Standing has submitted as authentic bigfoot imagery.

ReplyDeleteInterrogator: So Matt, you apparently claim to be a Bigfoot enthusiast. That label does not sound very impressive to me. Do you really estimate your experience somewhere between "armchair troll" and "field researcher", and a full two notches below "eye witness"? Is that correct?
Matt K.: Well, I like to think that I am more important than a troll, but I haven't really contributed evidence in any way. So it appears that you have hit the nail on the head. But let's just try and keep that between you and me, OK?
Interrogator: Very well Matt. But since you have no field experience and certainly have not actually seen a Bigfoot, how is it that you think that you are qualified to criticize an actual field researcher who has and photograghed it?
Matt K: That's a good question. And I'm going to give you a good answer. You see, I have an internet website where I post articles on Bigfoot related topics. I feel that the computer skills that I learned to do that, qualify me as a Bigfoot critic. It's just that simple. Just like Shawn Evidence.
Interrogator: Well Matt, you certainly have an inventive way of justifying throwing stones from inside of a glass house. Is there anything else that you feel that you are an expert on, when in fact you have a less than pathetic level of experience?
Matt K: It's good that you asked me that question, because I going to give you a good answer to that as well. I am thinking of posting articles on chupacabras, Nessie and Champ. I call it Horizontal Diversification, so that I can have something else to fall back on just in case I get discovered as what can best be described as an enthusiastic fraud in Bigfoot research.
Interrogator: Whew! Why don't you tell us what you really think about yourself Matt? That seems kind of harsh.
Matt K: Just between you and me, I have had self esteem issues since childhood. Running down real researchers helps me cope. It also helps me to boost my own ineptitude in my own eyes. It is very liberating, up until when those pesky process servers show up on my doorstep with those "cease and desist letters" for defamation of character. But hey, it keeps me young, by running from court date to court date.
Interrogator: Whatever gets your rocks off, Matt.
