Executive producer of "Call Out: Search and Rescue" show says Todd Standing's episode probably ranks as one of the most outrageous

"He thought I had a death wish." - Todd Standing

On Boxing Day (December 26th) in Canada, Bigfoot Hunter Todd Standing will be featured on a brand new episode of Call Out: Search and Rescue. In an interview with Calgary Herald, executive producer Brian Ross said his crew’s experience with Standing has to rank as the most outrageous.

“What’s happening in the rescues can sometimes be pretty bizarre,” Ross says with a laugh. “But this was different from any story we’ve done to date.”

That’s because in most episodes the focus is on outdoors enthusiasts from hikers and mountain climbers to rafters and snowmobilers who wind up in some jam they need to be rescued from.

In Standing’s case he was deep in the rugged back country of the Kootenays, where, he claims, he was about to infiltrate a “Bigfoot domicile” when a run-in with a grizzly bear ruined his plans.

Fleeing for his life he climbed a rock face and camped out on a small ledge. “I was up there for three days knowing this bear was stalking me,” says Standing, 38, of the October 2010 incident. “You can’t sleep up there. . . . If you roll, bye bye.”

Stuck as he was in that precarious position, Standing was unable to return to his team at a nearby base camp and, fearing for his safety, they alerted the RCMP. Soon, Columbia Valley Search and Rescue was also out in the bush looking for Standing, documenting the action for Ross’s reality show all the while.
After being rescued by the Search and Rescue team, Standing claimed they expressed awe at his survival abilities and told Calgary Herald news he was asked to sign a couple of autographs. The search team manager said he didn't recall that part of the story:
Columbia Valley search manager Steve Talsma does not recall that part of the story, however. He admits to finding much of Standing’s tale far-fetched.
The Columbia Valley Search and Rescue team weren't the only ones who thought he was crazy. One Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer wanted Standing to get a psychiatric evaluation after expressing concern over his well-being, venturing into harsh terrain on his expeditions. "He thought I had a death wish," Standing said.

If you haven't heard about Todd Standing's encounter with a family of Bigfoots near a secret valley between Banff and Kootenay National Park, the article wrote a little bit about this:
Standing knows that his numerous claims of contact with Bigfoot over his seven-year quest to prove the existence of the creature is hard for many to believe. This incident is particularly wild, with Standing reporting he was driven from the Bigfoot domicile by a whole group of the beasts who tried to scare him off in the night by throwing logs and boulders at him.

At the time of this particular assault, he admits: “I was on an average of one hour of sleep a day for five days. I was exhausted and starving.”

Still, Standing maintains that the video and photographic evidence he has captured of Bigfoot is the real thing and he is convinced he’s on the cusp of proving the existence of the still mythical creature.

  1. This guy's stories just keep getting more sad. Self-grandiose behavior like he has does lend itself to a mental illness. He might injure himself or someone one day with his pursuit of fame. I think he is a dangerous person and not just another Bigfoot enthusiast.

Driven from their domicile... B.S.. Scare him off? Hell, if he was that close & considered a threat, he wouldn't be talking. He'd be dead. Can't find a Sasquatch remains... Damn, You wouldn't have found a T.Standing remains...
    Hype once again.

  3. I think I might have to agree with you Mike. It's very rugged country and bears are a given, not to mention other predators.
If Todd is as experienced as he says he is,why not have two way communication with his camp?No air horn for emergency call or scaring off animals? No flares?A beacon maybe?
I'd never hike with this guy, ever.
Hiking alone is foolish and irresponsible regardless of the excuses.
Had it not been a bear,it could've been a broken leg,a fall etc.
I wonder how many tax dollars went in to that rescue just so he could be Mr. Gunsmoke Bigfoot tracker.

  4. He infiltrates the bigfoot domicile and the sasquatch clan there beats him to a pulp.

  5. When it comes to bigfoot, Standing has zero credibility. He should get together with Biscardi and start an organization called the BFBS.

  6. If he was rescued in Alberta as the clip suggests, his Sylvanic can only be in a few spots.

  7. Shouldn't even be mentioning his name. Just another ass that claims all this outrageous stuff and then doesn't prove any of it.

  8. All of this stuff this nutcase says is nothing but lies. Do you know that he crawled through a tiny tunnel barely big enough for a man for miles to get to the "Secret Valley," the lair of the Bigfoots? Did you know that there is no evidence that he has ever been to this place, or that any of these things he said he had happen to him actually happened to him? Did you know that he is a movie producer out to sell movies about his fake exploits? Did you know he has hoaxed repeated photos and videos of Bigfoots? Did you know that there is no evidence whatsoever that anyone, much less authorities, had to rescue him from this valley?

He's either nuts or he's a lying con artist. I vote for the latter.

Surely one of the worst of the worst of the worst in all of Bigfootery.

  9. Purely a staged publicity stunt.

If so-called Canadian researchers keep acting like this ass-hat, I'll be moving to the States. lol

  10. When a person truck's off into the bush without an ounce of common sense I hope they are handed the bill for the rescue team.

  11. I just hope that someone in the Bigfoot Community is telling the God Honest Truth when it comes to their video and experience. If not then I have waisted 3 years of my life in a quest for a Myth and that is not acceptable to me.

  12. So...

Robert Lindsay states that the guy is a lying con artist and hoaxer. Pretty strong words to put in print and there for all to see. Robert is either correct, or in danger of a Libel suit. Way to lay it on the line Robert!

If I were Todd, I'd consider a suit to challenge Roberts statements, either that or accept them as true and fade into anonymity...

Now we'll find out who is right!

    Regards,

  13. I'm watching this, and I know everyone here is gonna watch too. I do find it hilarious that so many people here call Todd Standing a hoaxer, but believe in jackasses like Fiasano, FB/FB, and the like. Enjoy eating a healthy plate of T.Standing for X-mas, you bunch of ding dongs.

  14. I think that Todd Standing is a great artist and has done a phenomenal job creating a continuing art piece. He is getting lots of reactions and he is getting more and more people involved in his art piece. He has made some of the coolest fakes out there, those two different face shots through the trees with the black eyes shining in the light, the hair and faces are so great, no other fakes come close to that artistic creativity. His video clip he teased us with where he was being attacked was so over the top, but it got so much reaction from people. He has all of y'all going full bore on his work and it just keeps growing. I think when all is said and done you will all see that this guy was just running a performance art piece and you were all a part of it. I think he is great. No blobsquatches from Todd and that is what is so awesome. The video of snow being knocked off trees, the one video that many people think could be the real deal (must have been a happy accident if it is real), then the stories of the lookouts with the cool maps, and then the photos. Keep it up Mr. Standing, your art is so much better than all the hoaxers out there.

  15. You know Chris, that is a great way to look at this guy's antics. If he is running a hoax like you said, it reminds me of the actor Joaquin Phoenix when he put himself in character 24/7 for a year or so...... I hope you are right, but something tells me this guy is no Joaquin Phoenix. Something tells me he is a sociopath and a dangerous person and not the artist you depict him to be.

  16. @Grant, That's the problem with the world today. People like YOU who are so quick to say call a lawyer. Your so close to Canada why don't you just head up there because here in AMERICA we have a right called FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Call a lawyer what an ass-hat.

    1. slander and libel are not covered under the freedom of speech act dickwad.

  17. Anonymous flamer,

I didn't say call a lawyer, I said consider filing suit. Doesn't require a lawyer in most places, if you can read and write. American freedom of speech rights are subject to certain limitations. In most states, one of these limits is Libel. Making defamatory false statements about someone in writing is Libel....but only if they are false statements. You aren't free to make such statements lawfully.

The real purpose of my statement was to note the courage of Robert for publicly calling what he (apparently) sees as a spade, a spade. He put himself at risk with his statement, which means he either made a tactical error, or is telling the truth. At the same time, if Todd felt Robert was making a false defamatory statement, he could have grounds to sue, depending on the jurisdiction(s).

Truth be known, I agree that lawyers are too prevalent in our American society. I try not to vote for them when I go to the polls. That said, we are a nation of laws. I do my best to abide by them and to encourage--no, insist those around me to do the same.

I'll not engage an anonymous person further, so take your parting shot.

    FWIW,

Grant in Iowa<---not really all that close to Canada, it's really rather centrally located.

  18. @Grant, My formal apologies then, I mistook your meaning. I also agree with your to many lawyers statement. Again my bad, about the Canada dig too.

  19. I have a degree in journalism, and we had to take a class called Law of Mass Communications. Libel suits are rarely won in the US since Times v Sullivan. 99% are tossed by judges before they even see the light of day, and plaintiffs are made to pay penalties for filing a frivolous lawsuit. Todd is a public figure. In order for me to commit libel, I must:

    1. Know that what I am saying is false, or

    2. Act with reckless disregard for the truth.

    3. Opinion is ok.

I can always say in my opinion, Standing is a con artist, a liar and a hoaxer. In addition, his suit fails on both 1 and 2. In fact, there is a tremendous amount of evidence that Todd is a liar, a con artist and a hoaxer, to say the least. I'm not the only person who has leveled such charges.

Now, for example, let us say that I called Todd a child molester. Even worse, I said he molested Jane Doe on August 21, 2011 at 5 PM. Now that meets standards for libel because I have no evidence at all for believing that that took place. It's either a violation of 1 or 2 above.

US libel laws are some of the strictest on Earth. Very hard to win a case in this country.

  20. Todd Standing has posted two facial photos of BF - which are not even remotely similar. The first looked like a joke. The second looked like a joke. Ergo, Todd Standing is a joke.

  21. Yeah had an asshole try to sue me for libel slander. But he decided to drop it after a good ole fashion ass whippin. That's how problems should be handled.

    ReplyDelete
  22. well then in my opinion you are as big an ass as fasano, biscardi, moneywanker and all the others who constantly slam on other researchers.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You have more than enough video evidence online now to see that sasquatch is real. And the native Americans knew this before cameras ever showed up. You people won't believe any amount of proof, because your minds are weak, and you simply don't like the truth.
