Breaking: Sasquatch Genome Project Website Prepares For News Release [The Ketchum Project]
Update: Dr. Melba Ketchum Makes A Statement Regarding The Proposed Media Project
We now have an approximate date for the film that's slated for publication around February 15, 2012. This doesn't tell us much, but the film seems like it's something that can be presented to other scientists as it discusses how the complete mitochondrial (mt) genome sequences were identified from DNA. According to the film's description, it reads:
Sasquatch: The Tribe Revealed
A film and/or documentary, narration or audio book, supporting photos and literary paper/document/book that will follow the The Sasquatch Project, the scientist and the scientific testing and proof for the existence of Sasquatch/ Bigfoot. Information will include discussion of results including A New Tribe of Living Humans, the complete Sasquatch mitochondrial genome sequence and nuclear DNA variations and text will show complete mitochondrial (mt) genome sequences were identified from DNA, analysis of the assembled sequence unequivocally establishes that the Sasquatch mtDNA falls inside the range of modern human mtDNAs and discussions of the origins thereof. The proof that the Sasquatch is not only the closest living human relative but is actually a contemporary living human. Also discussed is nuclear DNA testing performed on the same samples and the variations found in various genes including MC1R gene RUNX2 and FOXP2 as well as other targets genes involved in the perception of sound, transmission of nerve signals, the production of sperm and the lactase gene. Also discussed is how testing has ruled out ape cross and any ancient contributor and that Sasquatch is indeed a modern human with some genetic mutations accounting for their physical appearance. Also included are discussion of the history of samples and circumstances surrounding the acquisition, their testing, the circumstances surrounding the entire Sasquatch DNA Project. DeleteThe "bigfootreferenceguide" thing was blogged here some months ago with a "what is this?" Now we know why it was created.
ReplyDeleteWorse would be if Ketchum has applied for a "primer patent" too, or something like that..the "lab stuff" she figured out to separate Bigfoot's elusive DNA? And became the only lab to perform Bigfoot testing!
So, without a peer-review Journal, and/or scientists jumping on this band-wagon, and performing their own studies, this may be dead in the water...except for the diehards. And they will have to decide...do they still "Find Humans" for TV?
And of course shooting is probably out.
I am going to hold out hope that in just a few days we'll see a press release with a high end Journal and these articles front page!
If not? LOL, I'll still come back here Shawn! I know there are Bigfoots, and I do think they are pretty human, perhaps more in touch with that part than us...LOL
I'm only going to be impressed when I hear the odds. Remember the Snell Grove sample that showed there was a 1:5000 chance it was a human, but it was just off enough to seem it could be something other than pure human? I want to know the odds about this DNA before I get too excited. I hope they extrapolated things like precisely which areas of DNA differ and what that would mean physically and mentally. I'm all ears. I know they exist, I just want to know what we call them and if they are human-ish, then do they get the same legal rights? Reservations? Is it murder to kill one? This is what I love about science. When you learn something new, you open up a new world. Just think of what learning about life on a microscopic level did to science. Exciting times!

even if it comes out as human with a mutation, It still makes it a real living entity that lives in the world,and for some reason is much bigger faster,longer arms,different foot structure.

ReplyDeleteWhat is interesting is the choice of genes for analysis . I was trained as a molecular biologist and was active in research until a few years ago . The runx family of genes are a group of transcription factors, but of interest is the fact that Runx2 specifically is thought to contain differing sequences between modern humans and neanderthals that are responsible for differences in skeletal structures between the two . FoxP2 also is a type of transcription factor that is found in all mammals , has importance to speech and language and there are only small changes in the gene between humans and chimps . Finally MC1R is the gene encoding the receptor for melanocyte stimulating hormone which regulates skin and hair color . In any event , their choice of genes definitely makes a lot of sense, suggests a validity to the research and is interesting . In fact , all of this is interesting and I cannot wait to see how it all pans out

I am writing Dr. Ketchum's Web site content in collaboration with a designer who has built other BF Web sites, including Janice Carter's BF Reference Guide. Draft sites are often parked at hidden locations until they are finished. Because the BF Reference Guide has been down for some time, the designer thought it was a good place to park Dr. Ketchum's draft site during construction. It will be moved elsewhere and eventually posted at its ultimate url at a time determined by the peer-review process.
ReplyDeleteThis stuff is from an aborted 2010 project concept, and only indicates obviously preliminary conclusions that have NOT yet been peer reviewed. Since then many samples were added and the paper revised. Essentially, it tells us nothing about a publication date, nor if any if these assumptions are even valid. We will have to wait until the hype fades and the thing passes scientific muster.

In fact, I am on the edge of my seat waiting to be honest . When it is published and available, I and am more than happy to try to offer any explanation of the data that I can provide .

As a scientist, I am also aware that some of the most significant discoveries have come from hypotheses that deviated significantly from mainstream thinking . I hope that the data are published shortly and cannot wait to discuss it with many of you here.
