This Is the World’s Newest Monkey Species, Not a Werewolf

Lesula

Lesula (Cercopithecus lomamiensis) is the world’s newest species of monkey. This monkey was recently discovered living in the remote forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Scientists say it is only the second discovery of a monkey species in 28 years. Like a lot of new species that has been recently discovered, this animal is well-known to local hunters but previously unknown to the outside world.

The Guardian reports that Lesula has a “shy and quiet” disposition, with “a naked face and a mane of long blond hair”. It spends its days munching on fruits and veggies and makes its home in a 6,500 square mile habitat on the ground and in the trees of the central DRC’s lowland rain forests.

According to Smithsonian.com, "researchers from Yale University’s Peabody Museum of Natural History first came across the species in 2007. A primary school teacher in the DRC was keeping a female Lesula as a pet. The researchers thought the animal resembled the owl-faced monkey, but with different coloring. Puzzled, they took a few samples from the teacher’s pet. Later, genetic testing confirmed their hunch: it was a new species. They published their findings in the journal PLos One."

    2. With the look in eyes he does have a vibrating butt plug running. So in theory this very well could be Queen Randi.

  3. Why do all the articles about this say that this is the first new monkey in 28 years? I thought they just found that new snub-nosed monkey in the past couple of years. Am I wrong?

    6. @JREFer's

This isn't evidence for Bigfoot at all. All this does is help put things into better perspective on how we haven't discovered every mammal that there is to discover in the world.

    7. They think that too. They're just pretending not too.

  9. This isn't evidence of Bigfoot at all but it does show that there is a possibility that we have a Great North American Ape roaming around which has not yet been discovered.

It's still amazes me that many people are so narrow minded that they cannot even agree that something like this is possible with the creatures known as Saquatch.

  18. I agree with those who are saying that this does just show that new species are being discovered all the time. When I say discovered I mean recorded as new species as the post says the locals knew of this monkey. This sort of mirrors the understanding that indigenous peoples of the Americas have known about and believe bigfoots exist for millennia.
Also, Harry above has reminded me that recently (1994 ish) in New South Wales, a 40m high tree, The Nightcap Oak, thought to be extinct along with the dinosaurs was re-discovered or discovered however you look at it. This massive tree has managed to hide despite not being able to move or have any intelligence what so ever!! (and I’m sure that there are parts of USA that are almost as unexplored as NSW, surely?)
