DeleteI was beginning to think Melba Ketchum didn't exist, unless of course that was just an actress playing the part of Melba Katchum.....Hmmm.
I still don't know why Ketchum felt the need to respond to the russian scientist's report, or why it was in her mind better to do so, than to not. Perhaps she's very confident and has encouraging news from the publisher, or maybe she's trying to pressure them into publishing, which is probably not a good strategy. Or, she doesn't want the rumor mill to run full bore crazy. (It's never so bad, that it couldn't get a whole lot worse). Which might also make the publisher uncomfortable as well as the peer review panel. They
ReplyDeletethe publisher or peer review panel might also just be holding back their ok out of fear for their jobs and reputations. I'm guessing that's what the russian guy thinks was going on. There's a lot of variables. All my commentary above assumes the science is good. If it's not, I'd think that it would have been rejected a long time ago.
Yes I also think she should have held back despite Igor's leak. Ketchum's pre-release of info might have jeopardized the paper getting approved and published.
ReplyDeleteBut this is such a hot-button topic that I doubt some science journal will publish it, and she'll be forced to publish online. At least then all can see and test her work, but some will attack the work no matter what.
Even though people want to believe what scientists find and say, as with engineers and those in other fields, you'll find they never all agree, there is always infighting and competition, leaving what must be true or real still up for debate, despite the studies.
Though this or parts of it could be a hoax, that isn't likely on Ketchum's side now because she would lose her business and ability to work in her field if she was suddenly to say Surprise! Just kidding!
She's risked too much by this stage for this to be purely a hoax. But you see if/when journals and so-called peers reject or fail the paper, the skeptics will be getting drunk and dancing in a circle. That will be in error because that train of events doesn't mean at all that the paper isn't genuine; it only means mainstream science won't touch it, that's all.
But skeptics, such as that joker on Yahoo! news who did the article recently and who runs a skeptic site or magazine, will never understand this. They believe that scientists and science journals all live in a perfect and honest world where there is no subterfuge and everyone is frank and open and would welcome this info. For some reason skeptics such as he can't conceive (or they do and don't admit it) that journals and institutions could easily shut down, ignore, or suppress such a paper.
With the strange objects which have disappeared from universities and museums which challenge some mainstream ideas, you would think such skeptics would get the message and wake up.
It seems skeptics who attack this subject haven't studied it. Some seem unfamiliar with or have a shallow understanding of it. Once your reading has gone beyond hundreds of reports, into the thousands, and you recognize more and more small commonalities, the sheer weight of the material is persuasive.
Many of the reports are un-fantastic, in that a creature strolls across a road, or looks at the person and walks away. Almost all of the reports have the creature simply stroll away. Strolling away then must be a genunine trait, not only because of the frequency with which it's reported, but because it's not that exciting; someone inventing a report would likely spin a more exciting story than a creature looked, turned, and strolled off. Details such as that suggest the report is genunine.
My feeling is she used the opportunity Bourtsev gave to go public and likely sabotage her own work which is likely fraudulent. She has to make it appear hat she did everything she could and government people , science whatever batted her away so she walks with wally's money and becomes a martyr. wake up people
