    1. Channon was kept alive and tortured over the weekend, she'd been repeatedly gang-raped vaginally, anally, and orally… semen and DNA were recovered from each orifice (belonging to LeMaricus, Letalvis, and Thomas). She'd also been violently raped with an object, which was determined to be a broken chair leg found inside the home with Channon's blood on it (investigators believe they used this same chair leg on Chris but his DNA was not found on it). The lone female perpetrator, Vanessa Coleman, testified to seeing the ringleader, LeMaricus Davidson, drag Channon around by her head with one hand behind her head and the other under her chin, he would pull her and twist, attempting to snap her neck then slam her to the floor. He was unable to kill her this way. The group got a gallon of bleach and poured it down Channon's throat and on the injuries she'd recieved from the violent sexual assault. They hogtied her and put a white grocery bag over her face, they wrapped the rest of her body in 5 large black trash bags. They crammed her into the bottom of trashcan, head first. The medical examiner noted extreme bruising, as if she'd been repeatedly kicked between her legs. It's believed these injuries were caused by them stomping on her body to make more room in the trash can so they could conceal her body with trash. It's unknown exactly how long Channon lived inside that trashcan, she died a slow death from positional asphyxia. She was crammed into the trashcan Sunday night, her body was recovered Tuesday afternoon… her body was still in rigor. It's estimated she lived 12 to 24 hours after being put in the trashcan. She died with her eyes open… she'd been shoved in the trashcan so tightly that her knee left an indention on her cheek.

    2. He was naked from the waist down, his own belt wrapped around his ankles, gagged with his own sock, a sweater was tied around his face and neck with shoelaces. He'd been shot three times, once in the back, neck and back of the head execution style. He'd been violently anally sodomized with a large object, the medical examiner also found semen in his anus but due to the fire DNA could not be retrieved from the sample.

    3. Some have suggested it was just a thrill kill. My theory… it was combination of all three. I got into this case and tried figure out why in the hell they'd do this… going through documents and transcripts of interviews I think I've figured it out. It turns out that Daphne recently learned she was pregnant but didn't not want to continue the pregnancy. LeMaricus had heard through the grapevine that the real reason she wanted an abortion was because she didn't want "rainbow kids" (she didn't want the stigma of having children of multiple different races because she already had two white children. From what I understand it's not having bi-racial children in general, but having children of multiple different races. I don't really get it). They got into a fight about it which ended with LeMaricus'punching her in the face and choking her until she passed out. First night of the abduction LeMaricus called her dozens of times. The next day she called him back, she said she needed to get some things from the house but he wanted her to wait 30 minutes. She took this as a sign that he had another woman there and immediately went over, she came into the house upset and began looking for this woman. She tried to go into the bathroom but it was locked, she was told LeMaricus' brother's girlfriend, Vanessa Coleman, was in the bathroom but she wouldn't reply to Daphne as she yelled and banged on the door. She found a woman's clothing and jewelry, he told her he'd gotten them as a gift for her… she wasn't buying it but took the things anyways, if there was a naked woman in the bathroom (there was but she was there very much against her will) she didn't have any clothes now. She left even angerier than she'd arrived. The next day he went to visit her at her friend's apartment, they made-up, had sex and she'd agreed to keep the baby. The next afternoon her mother called her frantic because she's seen on the news that a dead woman found inside her house, knowing the abuse incident had just occured she understandably thought it was her daughter.

  3. The boss went back into the shop, but later came back to see if Myrick was back. At this point he noticed that Hlebo had parked his truck with the rear to the shop fence. He asked why and Hlebo again gave him a non - sensical answer. The other employees decided they better search for Myrick to make sure he was okay. They asked Hlebo to help them search a part of the building that had burned down about a month prior. But he said he wouldn't help the because "there are ghosts in there."
When they entered, they found the place covered in lots of blood and there was an ear on the ground! When they came back out, Hlebo was gone. Police waited at his house for him to return, which he did several hours later. When they asked where he had been, he said he just went for a drive. When they looked in his truck, the back was covered with blood.

  4. Sue White's story is truly incredible. She's a single mother from Georgia, she left her abusive husband to start a new life with her three children. She ran into an old friend and decided to go out with him, she soon realized he was bad news and suspected he was using drugs. She cut off all contact with him. One night she was home alone with her youngest daughter, who was only 7 years old. She was on the computer building a bear online, Sue was doing dishes in the kitchen. As Sue went to look at the bear her daughter had made she heard glass breaking in the kitchen, an armed masked man had broken into the home. He immediately put the gun to Sue's head and pulled the trigger… it had jammed. He beat her with the gun, he stabbed her with a knife from her own kitchen at least 25 times and raped her. Her daughter witnessed most of the attack before running to hide in a bathroom. After the attacker raped Sue he ordered her to call her daughter so he could rape her, but Sue played dead, believing she was incapacitated he went to find the little girl himself... when he left the room Sue ran and got a knife herself and attacked the masked man. During the struggle she removed his mask… it was the old friend she'd cut off contact with. Sue eventually stabbed the man to death, but she'd recieved life-threatening injuries and doctors didn't believe she'd live due to the amount of blood at the crime scene, but she lived. One police officer said it was bloodiest crime scene he'd ever seen.

  5. Holly G. from the Wichita Massacre. She was raped repeatedly, forced to have sex with her friends, shot in the head (though it thankfully wasn't as bad as it could have been due to a butterfly hairclip deflecting the bullet), then run over by a truck. She watched her friends, including her boyfriend, die, and had the strength to run naked for miles in the snow to go get help, even telling the couple she sought shelter from the whole story before they called 911 in case she passed out or died from her injuries. She then testified in court against her attackers and sent them to prison for life.
I'll never not be impressed and awestruck by the strength of this woman. If I had gone through what she had gone through, I feel like I might have just laid there and died.

  6. Elizabeth Fritzl. She spent 24 years in the basement being raped by her father, and she gave birth to 7 children (one died). Actually, it would be interesting to know what has become of those children who stayed with her underground. Her daughter, Kerstin, spent 18 years of her life in the basement.
Also, Natascha Kampusch (kidnapped at 10, spent 8 years in the basement) and Sabine Dardenne. I've read their books, and these women are extraordinary. Sabine Dardenne was kidnapped at the age of 12, when she was cycling. When she was released, after 80 days of rapes, she immediately went back to cycling. She has balls of steel. I reccommend Natascha's and Sabine's books, they are both amazing, although in a very different ways.

  7. Steven Stayner. Kidnapped as a boy by a priest (?) Who proceeded to raise him as his son while raping him. When he was 14 his captor kidnapped another boy who was like 5. Steven then decided they had to leave, despite having been deceived into believing his family was dead and had nowhere to go. He took the little boy to the police station where he himself was identified as a missing person.
It makes me ache to think of how much he suffered and how brave he was, refusing to let another boy to suffer like he had, while being a kid himself.
Oh and his brother Cary turned out to be a serial killer, but that's another story.

  8. I've always been fascinated by the survival of Thaddius Phillips. When I first heard this story, my own son was 13, like Thaddius and I was just amazed at his determination to survive. You can find his story on "Cold Case Files-The Tortured Truth." Basically Thad was kidnapped from his home in the middle of the night by a 17 year old boy named Joseph Clark. Clark took Thad back to his house and proceeded to break all the bones in his legs. Clark found a weird fascination in the sound and feel of bones breaking. He admitted to Thad that he had done this before with a boy named "Chris." After some 43 hours of capture and torture, Thad was able to break out of a locked closet, drag himself down a flight of stairs and then wiggle a phone cord until the phone fell off the hook to call 911 (all while repeatedly passing out due to the pain of every bone in his legs broken.) Thad was rescued and mentioned to police that there was another victim named "Chris." This turned out to be Chris Steiner, who was found a year earlier along the bank of a river. After exhuming the body, they determined Chris' legs were broken in the exact manner of Thad's. Joseph Clark was eventually convicted for that murder, along with the abduction of Thad and is now serving life. I feel Thad is a true hero. His fierce determination saved his own life and probably lives of future victims of Joe Clark.

  9. Krystal Surles' story always resonated with me. At 10, she witnesses her best friend's murder, has her own throat slashed deep enough to sever her windpipe (it was said the ends were sticking out of the wound) and cut the sheath that covers the carotid artery (meaning she was mere millimeters from sure death), walked nearly a mile to a neighbor to get help, and survived to put a cross-country serial killer on death row.

  10. Nance had been stalking Kris, and when Doug surprised him outside the couple’s home, the killer shot him in the back of the head. Dazed and bleeding from a deep scalp wound, Doug struggled with his assailant from the garage into the house. Amazed that Doug was even still alive, Nance pounded him with a length of pipe and finally prevailed. After grabbing Kris and tying her to the bed frame in the couple’s bedroom, Nance took Doug to the basement and tied him to a post. Doug, a gunsmith by profession, had earlier placed an antique lever-action Savage Model 99G Take-Down rifle near his workbench in the basement. He knew that if he could get to it, he and his wife might have a chance.
Doug had been shot, bound and beaten nearly to death, but Nance still stabbed him in the chest with an oak-handle kitchen knife, puncturing one of his lungs. The killer then left to have his way with Kris, most assuredly intending to kill her afterward, as he had done with so many of his other victims. Somehow, Doug managed to muster enough strength to break loose from the clothesline that bound him. He grabbed the Savage, loaded it, and waited, knowing that if he headed upstairs for the bedroom, Nance would surely use Kris as a shield. Doug banged the butt of the rifle against the wall to get Nance’s attention. The ploy worked. Nance raced back toward the basement stairs, and as soon as he came into view Doug let him have it with the Savage.

    1. In the meantime, Kris had managed to free herself except for one arm. Hearing the shot, she feared that Nance had killed her husband. Doug managed to stumble up the stairs, and when he saw the wounded Nance begin to rise, proceeded to pummel him with the butt of the rifle. As Nance crawled toward the bedroom, Doug continued to beat him with the gun until the butt splintered. By then, Nance was in range of the still-tethered Kris, who began to kick and punch him.
Nance pulled his gun from its pouch on his belt and fired at Doug, missing him. His second shot caught Doug just above the knee, but Doug kept coming, beating Nance with the barrel of the rifle. In the process, he knocked the lamp off the bedside table, plunging the room into darkness. Doug heard another explosion, and as he lunged for the table where he kept a pistol, he hit the switch for the overhead light. When he grabbed the handgun and trained it on Nance, who lay on the floor convulsing and twitching, Doug saw that the criminal had shot himself.

  11. On November 10, 2010, Matthew Hoffman randomly selected the Apple Valley, Ohio house of Tina Herrmann to burglarize because it was more secluded and the garage door was always left slightly open. Hoffman bade his time, sleeping in the nearby woods.
Finally, he snuck into the home after the residents left, remaining inside for an hour until Tina and neighbor Stephanie Sprang unexpectedly returned. Surprised, Hoffman murdered both, and then attacked Tina's two children, 13-year-old Sarah and 11-year-old Kody, when they stumbled upon the scene. He also killed a dog that was in the house because it barked loudly.
Killing Kody, Hoffman then held Sarah captive and took her and the bodies to his Mount Vernon home, tying Sarah to a bed of leaves in the basement. Next, he dismembered the bodies of his fatal victims, taking and disposing of the parts the next day into a hollow, 60-foot tree in the Kokosing Wildlife Area using his tree-climbing equipment.
Investigating authorities eventually classified Hoffman as a suspect in the Herrmann home invasion and abductions, raiding his home on November 14 as he slept on his couch; he was arrested and Sarah was safely recovered from the basement.

  12. Chris Bryson, Bob Berdella's would be seventh victim, escaped after being horrendously tortured over the course of a few days. Berdella lured Bryson into his home on the premise of exchanging sex for money, knocked him unconscious and tied him to a bed. Bryson endured beatings, rape, forceful insertions, injections of tranquilizers and other substances throughout his body (including Drano into his throat), and electric shocks to name a few.
Miraculously, for "cooperating" Berdella allowed Bryson to control the remote to the TV in the room, and also gave him a cigarette and matches. On the day of the escape, Bryson lowered the volume on the television with only his knees to determine Berdella was not home as there was no noise. Bryson was able to free himself from being bound with the matches Berdella left in the room, broke the second story window, and jumped out wearing only a dog collar and leftover restraints. He was able to run down the street and find help.
Truly horrific. Berdella is one of the more sadistic lesser known serial killers. For anyone interested, there is a NSFW picture of Bryson in captivity taken by Berdella (no gore, just pure terror in his eyes). Search and view at your own risk!

  15. I think I posted this before in some fashion but still always amazed me.
My best was intended but not planned/cool. It was, simply, throwing a can of starter fluid (ether) into a bonfire pit we had going. Party was over and only a few of us still around and fixing to leave and one friends car would never start and he had a can in the back, why not? Thing was amazing. Scale: pit was dug into ground and in a strip for telephone lines in the woods, so trees cut back but accessible to us. Nobody else around then. Thrown in. Wait a bit and we run far away. A few seconds or maybe a minute and nothing. We start to approach, reluctantly. We hear a hiss, not loud but noticabe. But no fire or explosion. Then a second or so later there is a fire ball that the MIDDLE was the telephone and electric line from ground to above and looked like a fire within fire, licking flames inside itself. A complete circle from ground (pit) to above lines on fire.) That went on for several seconds and then...gone. Awesome. Never seen anything like it except some IMAX about Red Adair blowing up fires. But even then the symmetry and odd timing was so weird. Like the gas expanded into a perfect globe and then all lit on fire at once.

  16. I grew up in farm country in rural Ohio. When I was probably 12-13 yrs old, a group of us decided to see if could get the locally legendary, massive carp that was said to reside in a farm pond on the property of one of my friends. I don't remember whose idea it was, but after much discussion we decided to fill a mayo jar half full with Daisy BBs, drop in a lit M80, screw on the lid, and throw it into the pond. Remarkably we did this without getting killed, the jar sank but nothing happened for at least 10-15 seconds. About the time we moved forward to look into the pond, the M-80 detonated. The result was similar to the climactic depth charge scene from "The Enemy Below", one mammoth gurgling bubble followed by a spray of stinky pond water. A few fish floated to the top, but not our primary target. The next morning the guy on whose farm the pond was located called each of us and told us to get there as quick as we could. There on the pond bank was a huge, but very dead carp. We figure he succumbed to internal and/or shrapnel injuries at some point after all went home the previous evening.

  19. High kudos for the great forum! It's good to know I'm not the only one who misses hearing that voice coming out of the high desert in the dead of night. Coast to Coast Am is a dull and uninteresting place without Art Bell.

For the record, I am an insufferable skeptic. I don't believe in Bigfoot, ghosts, or alien abductions. I am willing to consider such possibilities, however I have yet to see any convincing empirical evidence of their existence. Nevertheless, Coast to Coast with Art Bell was the only radio show I always made it a point not to miss. Not because I wanted to deride the sometimes preposterous guests or topics, but because Art always made the whole thing so damned interesting. It was fun, like telling ghost stories around the campfire.

When that bumper music started, and that inimitable voice came out of the darkness, talking about Mel's Hole, or Atlantis, or cattle mutilations, we could forget, at least for a few hours, what a crummy day we'd had. It wasn't the subject matter so much as the way Art did the show. He was a master of the art of radiocraft, who, like the greatest actors of our age, could read the proverbial phone book and have us hanging on every word. He is Anthony Hopkins to George Noory's Chuck Norris. (No offense, George.) Coast to Coast AM became a cultural phenomenon because of Art Bell. Because of that voice, that delivery, that ominously rueful Vincent Price chuckle. It was like live suspense theater. Every night felt like War of the Worlds.

When Art stopped doing the show on a regular basis a few years back, I tried to stay on as a listener, but could never make it through an entire episode. George Noory seemed like a nice enough fellow, but amiability doesn't necessarily make for riveting radio. Ian Punnett was inoffensive enough at first, but these days when I hear his voice, I can't get to the knob fast enough. Intentional or not, there is an insinuating know-it-all smugness about Ian that makes me crazier than Nicole Kidman. Whenever I listen to Ian, I always have the feeling that (1) he's smirking behind the microphone, and (2) that he genuinely believes he's much cleverer than anybody else--which he clearly is not. I don't know whether this persona is cultivated or unwitting, but it is enormously disagreeable.

So I rarely listen to Coast to Coast anymore. I've tried, but I always lose interest. It just reminds me of how great the show used to be when Art was at the helm, and of how mediocre it has become.

Grand days, those. I wish Art would come back.

  20. The radiation levels inside Japan's damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor No. 2 have soared in recent weeks, reaching a maximum of 530 sieverts per hour, a number experts have called "unimaginable".

Radiation is now by far the highest it has been since the reactor was struck by a tsunami in March 2011 - and scientists are struggling to explain what's going on.

The previous maximum radiation level recorded in the reactor was 73 sieverts per hour, a reading taken not long after the meltdown almost six years ago. The levels are now more than seven times that amount.

Exactly what's causing the levels to creep upwards again is currently stumping the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco). But the good news is that they say the radiation is safely contained within the reactor, so there's no risk to the greater population.

  23. I don't know about that - I think there's a different standard for measuring the efficacy of ults. A good rat can get his ult recharged quickly enough that strategically using it against key enemies is usually a better strategy than going for monster 3/4/5/6 kills (or 10 like this lucky guy) haha.
It's in the same line of thinking that a strategic Mercy rez is one used when you need it, even if you're only bringing back 1 or 2 teammates.
Just because someone isn't competing for a POTG every time they use their ult doesn't mean they're wasting them.

  24. Honestly, it's just an educated guess. Seawater is pretty good at stopping UV rays due to its much higher opacity, while pure water is not. As a general rule, if visible light gets through, UV will be able to since they are at similar wavelengths, UV being slightly higher energy. I learned this in a class on atmospheric and oceanic science, but I'm no expert, so correct me if I'm wrong.

For instance, if I notice joe/iktomi getting boozed up at home (legal) and then an hour later see him wandering the front yard wearing nothing but a loincloth and a cowboy hat (legal) in winter while carrying around a crossbow (I'm assuming legally) I'm probably going to be concerned enough to call the police.

  35. A few people are mentioning other shows but I want to add Wolf's Rain at 30 episodes. I typed this up for someone further down but wanted it to maybe get a bit more exposure:
Oh man it's been awhile since I've seen it but it's one of my favorite animes because, even though I don't remember all the plot points, it does such a good job of staying with you.
Just like Bebop it's produced by Bones Studio with a phenomal soundtrack by Yoko Kanno and character designs by Toshihiro Kawamoto. It's directed by Tensai Okamura who worked on Bebop, Champloo, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and a ton of other quality shows. And lastly it's created by Keiko Nobumoto, who doesn't have a ton of credits to her name but she did the screenplay for Bebop and was a writer on Space Dandy.
Basically, it's the entire Bebop team minus Watanabe. I'm not going to go into the plot too much because it's based in Japanese mythology and frankly a summary would sound silly, but the series does such a good job of building the world around some great characters. The story can really hit hard in places, and while it's no edge of your seat thriller, the overall plot is intriguing and still kept me guessing. Voice acting is top notch too (I watched the English dub).
While it obviously fits in well tonally to Champloo and Bebop, another I'd compare it to is Princess Mononoke.
I think it's criminal how few people it seems have seen it, but I understand that at a quick glance it's not the most accessible show to pick up. But it's more than worth watching!
