Scientists Say Dinosaurs Are 5 Years Away

According to scientists, Jurassic Park may become reality. Scientists say they will be able to recreate living dinosaurs within the next 5 years.

In a potentially terrifying case of life imitating art, the renowned paleontologist who served as the inspiration for Jurassic Park protagonist Dr. Alan Grant is spearheading genetic research that could engineer dinosaurs back into existence within the next five to 10 years, he says.

While Dr. Jack Horner, who has consulted on all four Jurassic films, initially believed the key to recreating the prehistoric creatures lied in working with ancient DNA strands, further study about DNA degradation over time has since ruled out that possibility.

Instead, a group of scientists at Harvard and Yale have turned their eye to -- wait for it -- the modern-day chicken. “Of course, birds are dinosaurs," Horner told People magazine. "So we just need to fix them so they look a little more like a dinosaur."

  4. Wouldn`t scientists be better employed using their knowledge to attempt to SAVE the creatures of the earth currently here ,rather than creating monsters from the past for purely entertainment value...there can be NO possibly valid reason giving creatures extinct for millions of years so "entertainment" and "because we can do it" are the sole reasons.

    Crazeeeeeeeee.

    1. I'm not sure that's Horner's goal. Reverse engineering a chicken is not really new, it's been under consideration for years now. They have already produced a tail and teeth by turning on certain recessive genes. I think it's incredibly fascinating, and it would certainly help us understand evolution. Also, Horner is a paleontologist....not really a field of study that has much to do with species conservation, although you are correct when you say it is important to direct effort in that direction. That said, not every scientist has the training or credentials to address that. This is a natural pursuit for a paleontologist, I don't see a problem with it.

  5. Same scientists who managed to not notice the parallel human species living 0.5 miles from your house. Yeah.

  6. Lol! Scientists can recreate dinosaurs, but tracking down a sasquatch specimen? That's just too much, man. Be realistic.

Hey, footers, here's a thought: if it is morely likely that scientists can "recreate" a long extinct species than find one real specimen of the giant ape-man living all across the north america, maybe it's time to admit that sasquatch existing is a highly improbably phenomenon?

  7. Is that 5 years according to the Sykes clock? If so, it will never happen. Lol!
