Actually the media is distracting us with mindless entertainment because they're under instructions from the government, as is the (not so free) press and mainstream science, to hide the truth from us that humans are a lot older than we think and don't come from the apes. It't very likely we were created not by the Godly nonsense of organized religion (which they're trying to protect among other things), but by beings from elsewhere that are checking up on us in those infamous flying saucers.
