First major news article on the Sierra Kills

Brace yourselves everyone-- Bigfoot news is coming quick this evening and we are about to flood you with news some much needed Bigfoot News from Robert Lindsay.

Here's the first one and it is about the "Sierra Kills" story that was published in a major newspaper in Yakima, Washington, dated July 17, 2012:

First major news article on the Sierra Kills. There will be more! The first major news article on the Sierra Kills has appeared in a Yakima, Washington newspaper, the Yakima Herald Republic, in the sports section of all places. The author, Scott Sandsberry, is apparently an outdoorsman.

Like a good journalist, he did a lot of research into the Kills and related subjects. He spoke to many of the higher ups in the Bigfoot field, and they all swore to him that the Sierra Kills story was true.

One fascinating new tidbit we learn is that Smeja and the driver apparently took a “Bigfoot researcher” with them when they went back and recovered whatever it is they say they recovered. All previous accounts said that Smeja and the driver went back alone. One of my sources has long insisted that someone from the Olympic Project must have gone to that site soon after the Kills occurred with or without Smeja and the driver.

In addition, the article reveals for the first time that there was an argument between Justin and the driver after the shooting of the baby. One person, possibly Justin, insisted that they had to take the baby’s body with them as proof that they shot it. The other person, possibly the driver, insisted that “Whatever that is you shot, it’s not a Bigfoot and it’s not a bear. It’s some sort of a prehistoric man, and you’re going to jail for murder if you take it back with you.” Hence it was left where it was.

Sandsberry did an excellent job of investigative reporting on this story.

Here's the full snippet from the newspaper article:

Sandsberry: Even after all the interviews and research, I still don’t know about Bigfoot’s existence
July 17, 2012 by Scott Sandsberry

After many weeks of researching a topic I had never considered worth researching and amassing notes files of almost Biblical proportions, I have come to a conclusion — of sorts — regarding my feelings about Sasquatch.

I no longer have a clue what to think.

I have been a lifelong hiker and backpacker. Not counting car-camping at roadside parks and campgrounds, I have spent more than 100 nights in the boonies, in little lightweight tents or under the stars.

I’ve seen dozens of bears. I’ve had a little staring contest with a cougar while holding my backcountry breakfast of blueberry pancakes. I’ve seen a bobcat invite a rabbit to dinner … as the main course.

I’ve seen lots of critters in the woods. I’m also absolutely positive a lot more of them have seen me than I have them.

But the idea of one of those critters being a hairy, eight-foot-tall, 500-pound beast on two legs has never struck me as anything more than National Enquirer fodder. I figured people who were seeing Bigfoot were also seeing Elvis and Amelia Earhart. And seeking professional help.

Early this year, that all changed.

While researching an entirely unrelated story, I stumbled upon a website on which Bigfoot ‘encounters’ were reported, chronicled and followed up on. I thought that might make for an eye-catching offbeat story, albeit one whose target audience primarily resided in the waiting room for the shuttle back to the mother ship.
That was nearly 40 interviews and more than 3,000 typed column inches of notes ago.
Now I know precisely squat.

I don’t know if I believe in Bigfoot. But I’m no longer sure I don’t.

I think I have a little bit of an idea how Daris Swindler — a respected academician, anthropologist and primate anatomist who had for years thrown Bigfoot out with the bathwater — felt when he looked at a piece of evidence that made sense only if Bigfoot, or something like it, actually did exist.

What respectable scientist even wants to go down that road? To know your peers may be whispering among themselves as you walk past, or are even simply looking at you with that head-cocked expression that says, Ho-kay. (Of course, most of my peers already look at me that way … but I digress.)

Since I started researching the single offbeat story that turned into this temporary obsession, I’ve interviewed a bunch of seemingly sane people who have had Bigfoot ‘encounters.’ The son of a former newspaper co-worker. A retired military officer. A personal friend. A documentary filmmaker. Professors at universities in three different states. An archeologist. Hunters. Hikers.

All of those otherwise normal, mundane human beings believe in something I was certain was impossible.

Very intelligent people — once-skeptical professionals and scientists much like Swindler — have explained patiently to me why it is not only possible but likely.

There are two developments I probably should have included in this series but did not because, frankly, I just couldn’t get my head around either one of them.

People I have interviewed — multiple people in each case — swear both developments are true. I can’t verify either, and while the journalist in me wants to do so, another part of me just doesn’t want to go there.
You can make up your own mind:

1) Not quite two years ago, a bear hunter in California shot at and possibly wounded a Bigfoot, then killed what he and a hunting buddy later described as one of two 3 1/2-foot tall, smaller versions of the first one.

As the story was related to me, the first hunter wanted to haul the carcass to town and show the world, but his buddy told him no way: If you do that, you’ll go to prison. That’s no bear, and that’s no Bigfoot, that’s some kind of an aboriginal human being. So they left it behind in a creek bed. The two later returned to the scene with a Bigfoot researcher and, though the body was gone, hair and tissue samples remained.

2) Those samples were collected and are now in the possession of a DNA expert in Texas named Melba Ketchum, who has been preparing to release her findings of those and dozens if not hundreds of other samples collected by Bigfoot researchers from all over North America. Those findings have been in peer review for months and, upon release — at least according to Bigfooters who are very hush-hush about this, citing non-disclosure agreements — will prove, or at least point to, the existence of a new subspecies.

Not human, and not ape. Something in between.

(Just a note: This column was written in May. By now, Ketchum’s findings may already be old news.)

Has anyone read up on the Minnesota Iceman? If you (claim to) have seen a Bigfoot, did it look like the Iceman?

Hows this from Lindsey, This is an aritcle from a news paper in Washington. Did you even read the article above before you comment??

    3. @ Timmy if you are asking if Bigfoot looks like the Minnesota Iceman I'd say emphatically YES!!

The Iceman also looks like Smeja's description of the babiy Bigfoot and maybe the adult. And coincidentally it looks like Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot too if you honestly compare. See Patty's elbow? Can't be faked and neither could've the original Iceman that toured the NE coast for years.

    1. Regardless if you think "kills" event happened or not, are you really that dumb and ignorant when it comes to details with media entity? Obviously many facts regarding sierra kills are wrong here but JS & the driver obviously weren't interviewed for story and facts get confused or misrepresented by either third party sharing with the writer of this article, the author of article himself or both through story relay. Get your head out of your ass and listen to the many interviews with smeja himself to decide if facts change or not. Amazing

    2. NO IT DOES NOT SAY: that he shot "two" baby Bigfoots. Read it again.

  4. It was a good 6-part series, lots of primary research in addition to well-established stories of old. However, Sandsberry wrapped it up by essentially saying he had no f'ing idea what to think.

Sounded like he was glad it was over. The reason Ketchum/Smeja is mentioned at the end (and not featured) is obvious. He couldnt verify anything and couched his words appropriately.

    Let's not get too overzealous.

    1. The relationship between the sasquatches and us has always been sad I guess, it's no wonder they shun us when they've had so many bad run-ins with packed yahoos. Shootings possibly killings no doubt have occurred and stayed secret. They must feel like a hunted people always having to hide from view. I suggest authorities man themselves up and admit it's true instead of the song and dance performances we're usually given, then we can start respecting this species which is hard to do when it's insisted upon as myth.

  9. Guys, I confess, Bigfoot does exist. After all these years of trolling, I have to come out of the cryptozoological closet. I saw a Bigfoot back in 1986 near Springfield, Oregon. I've tried to blank it out, ignore it, think it was a man in a suit, or even a bear. But now I must come clean that I'm convinced that these animals, whatever they are, truly exist.

The photo of the steak was used with out Justin's permission, so as usually more of the same from the RL camp? Shawn who's side are you on? :)

  15. Hot Dog Men

    Ingredients

    8 hot dogs
    8 slices bread
    8 slices American cheese
    ketchup and mustard to taste

    Directions

Make a slit down the middle of one end of each hot dog; this will be the legs. At the other end, make a small slit each side; these will be the arms. Bring a saucepan of water to a boil, and add the hot dogs. Boil for about 5 minutes until the slits open up.
Place slices of cheese onto slices of bread. Set the hot dog men on top. Use ketchup and mustard to make a face, hair and clothes or buttons.

  17. If you didn't listen to the Joe Rogan podcast on July 17th, check it out. James 'Bobo' Fey was the guest. The interview is about two hours long and he does talk about the Sierra Kills incident. He claims, among other things, that both he and Dr. Meldrum were on site during the week long body recovery search and that Kechum's DNA results are conclusive and have been sent to Universities, such as Oxford, for verification. Bobo also claims that the reason Smeja didn't take the juvenile's body with them is because they had been drinking and they had seen a game warden earlier that evening!!!!

I really hope that the Sierra Kills story turns out to be a hoax but I'm starting to worry that a drunk redneck that just likes to kill animals is telling the truth.
